  • Saw David perform yesterday (with Graham Nash). Sheffield UK. Still going strong and so beautiful.

  • It'll always be one of my all time top ballads by David. I watched him sing it in 2000 and it was probably the most beautiful moment in my life. Peace is possible when we stop taking sides. Peace, Blue

  • When I was renting VHS tapes at $6 a day, "Dating myself" CS@N came out with this concert on Lazer Disc...This for me the favored jam of the whole concert. I had it on repeat... while the video store was in Hermosa Beach across from sand. Man! this jam said it all, "While they danced" : )

  • Best voice I''ve ever heard...and then he combines it with Nashs' oo-er. and then Stills....dear me.If I wasn't an agnostic, this'd be the welcome at St Peters;' wossername that might be heaven.....Dave and Steve on Martins, Graham just being nashy. Loved this noise for 40 years now

  • ~~Simple Words~~....Thank you David .....

  • This song made a grown man cry when he was losing his daughter in a custody battle, yeh me, and my 5 yo patted my shoulder with her little hand and said; dont cry daddy to comfort me....

  • Half dead: still nails it.

Sick enough to be on his back. Upright at the piano, singing.

No errors. Nash congratulates him at the close, and you can see how pleased he is by it.

  • that strped shirt so 80s

  • @TheVermont420 He is not well in this concert. Watch him in the 1991 accoustic concert from San Franciso. He is eight years older, but healthy. What a huge difference.

  • saw them in 09 and they didnt do this song i was sad and they also didnt do judy blue eyes whats up with that? do they just not play that song anymore?

  • yeah, David Crosby is one of the greatest , he paints with his voice, space, love and melody...he´s a 5D songwriter...wonderful..

  • Mr Crosby you are awsome, after all you have been through you are still the tops in my eyes and some people need to get real to the facts of life. You rank right up there with the best in my lifetime. Keep on rockin' man.

  • Saw them last night at the Royal Albert Hall - Crosby still in fantastic voice and very much with us. He described this as 'the song that saved him...' It's saved me too, on more than one occasion. An inspiration for us all.

  • i read the comments an i am so pleased. there was a time as you know when i feared we were going to lose david. we are and were blessed with his mere existence. that voice that voice and that martin guitar.

  • Trying to remember how the Cros described himself during this show....think he said he looked like Dracula or something to that effect. This was at the pinnacle of his drug addiction...he talked about this show in his book, how he had to have a crack pipe ready and waiting for him on the side of the stage and how he would dash off every other number, have a hit then come back to the mike...that was the only way he was able to play an entire show.

  • Just saw CSN tonight. They sang this song, sounded just like this, David said he was at a low point in his life, had partially written this song & his friend Jackson Browne told him he HAD to finish it, so he did with Jackson's help. He said Jackson was his friend, through thick and thin. A very emotional moment for him & very grateful he shared it with us. Amazing man, amazing music.

  • That's SOOO beautiful !!!!!!! Makes me get to that "we-are-one" feeling!! lol

  • This arrangement doesn't have the same resonance as Crosby performing it acoustically, the over orchestration mekes the song needlessly complicates, still got to love Crosby in his peak.

  • Crosby is dead on his feet but upright and playing the piano; not the organ.

This song was a favorite of Jackson Browne's.

  • there has never been 2 voices that go together as well...Beautiful

  • CS&N came together in a time of social awakenings & turmoil. Each already a master of their craft, each with their own demons and gifts. The drugs certainly were a part of the time and are too easily abused.

Each battled their demons, sometimes lost, but fought them again and won. A testament to their spirits and desire to live.

And we're all the richer for the music that they create.

  • Love that gospel cadence! Yeah!

  • I am blown away by this song, it is absolutely remarkable. This is as good as it gets from these two.

    Superb!

  • One of the last great songs David wrote before his addiction took him from music for awhile...truly the voice of an angel. Love you David.

  • Amazing as bookeeper says - Croz is quality even when he's obviously super- fried. LEGEND

  • great song...what else can you say

  • fucking awesome, godddddddddddddd dammit god dammit god dammit he'll never come to peru why whyyyyyyyy :c

  • I get teary eyed every time I see this one.

His song, he absolutely nails it even though he's in visible pain. Stills said of

Crosby once that he never had an off night, never hit a bad note, never sang off key: whatever his condition.

  • I'm just glad DC made it out alive.

  • 3:47 bad time for david...

  • One of the great songwriters of all time, and also one of the best singers I have ever heard. I'd punch my mother in the mouth to have his voice. He's the only artist that ever made me start to tear up. I saw him do "Carry Me" with Graham Nash about 3 years ago and was very close to crying like a baby when he sang it.

  • I had the same reaction to that song at that time. My wife's mother had just died the month before and it just wiped me out. It's always been a favorite of mine.

  • I love the child who stears this river boat..lately he's crazy for the deep...

Time stops here, on the Delta.

    While they dance.

    Love you, Cos.

no matter what condition your condition is..at your worst, you are a brilliant vessel for the tunes of the universe..At best, you guide us, and show us just how far one can come back..love it love it. A pleasure to breathe in the same air space.

    Southern greetings to you...

  • Why bother about the "tweaking" ? The song is stupefying, superb, he sang with all his heart. That's the man who also penned "Laughing" and "Almost Cut Mý Hair" !!

  • Thank you for posting this....I dunno if Crosby was tweaking, out of it, at the worst of his addiction, etc etc etc.

    I don't care.

I am glad we have this little bit of history in a beautiful tune by some of my music heroes!

We are all human, afterall...I don't know I would hold up in their shoes...that's a scary prospect! It's a miracle they are still here with us! ;)

God Bless You David Stephen and Graham~

  • Crosby, is a beautiful soul, but this is a bitter sweet clip. If you have seen the whole DVD Stills and Crosby are both in rough condition. Crosby was at the worst of his addiction at this point in 1983, and by 1986 he would be put in jail where he finally kicked crack.

I love the end, you can just see the happiness in his eyes since he knows he nailed it. highest point of the movie by far.

  • Hi Mr. HectarCrawford, hearing the song for the first time, yes it kinds of slow you down I admite it, but man, this is a great piece of artwork in all senses, music, lyrics, harmonies, etc. so give it a try and you will surely change you'r opinion.

Or maybe this sint your kind of music after all.

    Thanks

  • He kicked freebase, not crack. He was not black!

  • I wonder what Crosby would think of your comment?

  • Ahh.. Come on. You make me sound like some kind of jerk!!

  • are you so naive to think white people dont smoke crack! ignorance must be bliss for you my friend.freedom of speech lets us know just who comprises america.Pax vobiscum friend.

  • i cannot stop listening to this song...

    it is so freaking incredible

david crosby is incredible how have i never heard his stuff...wowowow

  • Mike Finnegin's Hammond pushed Croz to the limits. I was there. Finns was burnin' holes in him with his eyes. Simply magical. Joe Vitali's beat didn't hurt. His version on the unreleased solo album with Craig Doerge was stunning. He soon after regrouped and redid it for the Daylight Again album.

So nice he decided drop all those anchors.

  • "all those anchors" ... was that meant to be another CSN sailing metaphor?

  • Crosby looks like death warmed over in this concert: trying for detox, not stoned.

    Still nails this number.

  • We've all had our deviations from the straight and narrow, but if you look through the history of David Crosby, you will notice a true righteousness in the music he has accomplished. We are all masters of our own destiny. I am truly grateful for the wonderful songs he's written, and he influences my own individual style of composition. I can only hope to do as well as he has. Mark Christopher

  • Graham Nash said in Crosby's biography that he had to edit this footage because Crosby looked so out of it "the stare in his eyes, the vacant faraway expression, the almost comatose way he went through his tunes..." Nash said it was painful to deal with (because Crosby was his best friend)

  • Demonstrates here why band members "safety netted" him in spite of his substance abuse problems. He was not stoned in this performance, but suffering thru detox. On his

    feet anyway.

  • dude was TWEAKING!

  • saw him do this last night in montreal brilliant, but the stupid reviewer from the gazett called this song a dog????

  • david may have been messed up...but you know what ??? he nailed it!!!...i saw these guys on this same tour, some 4 months before this video was made (in fact i think they were wearing the same clothes)...he nailed it that night, and he nailed it here...god bless david crosby

  • Well, yes and no.The band safety netted Cros quite a bit, and after the intro, the band and Graham are up in the mix to cover for David. He's in pretty rough shape.

  • David was really messed up here...Quite lucky to be alive today. I am so happy that he was able to turn his life around. Doing time in a Dallas jail is what actually saved his life. Gave him time to go thru a very painful detox.

    Rock on David

  • i saw csn live tonite, and david did this song, ...SUCH A GREAT ARTIST

  • Why do people get so angry in their comments on here. Swearing like that makes you sound really immature.

  • so great so sad so fucking beutiful

  • A beautiful voice, and a beautiful song, no matter what he did to his body.

  • stupid fucks, all of you. This motherfucker has shaped singer/songwriters and the art of performing music in its rawest form, High, oh well . . . that's reality. It takes nothing away from the beauty of this song and the amazing performancw of it. Grow the fuck up. Life isn't an AA meeeting. Life happens. And if life WERE an AA meeting music would suck balls. Life happens . . . deal with it and appreciate art.

  • Thank you for your comment ...this is what ive been longin to hear from someone who obviously dig music and dare to speak his mind, these guys have faced everything and without doubt they are considered the

old-hand masters of art, music and Above All humanity in its simplest Definition!

  • Well said budd. Great music comes out of pain, and sometimes there's a high price to pay for that.

  • @buddhamurphy The man is a god. He's helped me through the best and worst of times, though he doesn't know it. He'll live forever.

  • @buddhamurphy - that's not right to call us stupid. I'm glad he cleaned up his act but during the early 1980s Crosby was a bum - a disgrace. Wasn't he freebasing almost all the time? Didn't he have to walk off stage to light the torch of the crack pipe? Wasn't He was stoned and arrested a bunch of times. Wasn't He eating McDonald's and donuts in the back of a van while freebasing?

  • @PatrickHansbury I think you read too many tabloids. I was at that show, 3rd row and had a good view of everything. Steven Stills had his little hissy fit about the sound system (justified) but I never saw David leave the stage once. McDs & freebasing.... you're just an ass looking to stir sh*t. This man in an amazing artist and you know it. I'm almost ashamed to waste words on your assenine commment.

BTW TO ANY THAT CARE..... CROSBY NASH ARE TOURING :) i'll be there, how 'bout you?

  • Comment removed

  • This is a great rendition, stoned or no...what clip are the nay-sayers watching?

  • The same clip. This sucks balls dude.

  • You only go through life once.

  • It is pretty sad that he's either high or coming off a high in this vid for such a great song.

  • you're an idiot. Do you think if He wasn't high THEN that he could have written what he has since OR before? What are you an asshole?

  • Yes I am an asshole who cares more about my entertainment than a good man's life. My mistake. This song was written amidst the anguish of his drug use. So while I do love it, in reality, drugs really screwed up Crosby's life.

  • I don't care about entertainment more than a mans life; you're missing the point. You obviously know nothing about the MAKING of music, or that it is the emotional ups and downs in the artists life that allows him/her to express what they're going through in a way that resinates with US. Ther's nothing to be sad about. David Crosby is clean now and writing about THAT . . .

  • yeah i figured out this song if anyone wants me to record me doing a cover of this song and then post please let me know

  • GREAT TUNE ALEX GOLD
