It'll always be one of my all time top ballads by David. I watched him sing it in 2000 and it was probably the most beautiful moment in my life. Peace is possible when we stop taking sides. Peace, Blue
When I was renting VHS tapes at $6 a day, "Dating myself" CS@N came out with this concert on Lazer Disc...This for me the favored jam of the whole concert. I had it on repeat... while the video store was in Hermosa Beach across from sand. Man! this jam said it all, "While they danced" : )
Best voice I''ve ever heard...and then he combines it with Nashs' oo-er. and then Stills....dear me.If I wasn't an agnostic, this'd be the welcome at St Peters;' wossername that might be heaven.....Dave and Steve on Martins, Graham just being nashy. Loved this noise for 40 years now

@TheVermont420 He is not well in this concert. Watch him in the 1991 accoustic concert from San Franciso. He is eight years older, but healthy. What a huge difference.
saw them in 09 and they didnt do this song i was sad and they also didnt do judy blue eyes whats up with that? do they just not play that song anymore?
Mr Crosby you are awsome, after all you have been through you are still the tops in my eyes and some people need to get real to the facts of life. You rank right up there with the best in my lifetime. Keep on rockin' man.
Saw them last night at the Royal Albert Hall - Crosby still in fantastic voice and very much with us. He described this as 'the song that saved him...' It's saved me too, on more than one occasion. An inspiration for us all.
i read the comments an i am so pleased. there was a time as you know when i feared we were going to lose david. we are and were blessed with his mere existence. that voice that voice and that martin guitar.
Trying to remember how the Cros described himself during this show....think he said he looked like Dracula or something to that effect. This was at the pinnacle of his drug addiction...he talked about this show in his book, how he had to have a crack pipe ready and waiting for him on the side of the stage and how he would dash off every other number, have a hit then come back to the mike...that was the only way he was able to play an entire show.
Just saw CSN tonight. They sang this song, sounded just like this, David said he was at a low point in his life, had partially written this song & his friend Jackson Browne told him he HAD to finish it, so he did with Jackson's help. He said Jackson was his friend, through thick and thin. A very emotional moment for him & very grateful he shared it with us. Amazing man, amazing music.
This arrangement doesn't have the same resonance as Crosby performing it acoustically, the over orchestration mekes the song needlessly complicates, still got to love Crosby in his peak.
CS&N came together in a time of social awakenings & turmoil. Each already a master of their craft, each with their own demons and gifts. The drugs certainly were a part of the time and are too easily abused.
Each battled their demons, sometimes lost, but fought them again and won. A testament to their spirits and desire to live.
And we're all the richer for the music that they create.
One of the great songwriters of all time, and also one of the best singers I have ever heard. I'd punch my mother in the mouth to have his voice. He's the only artist that ever made me start to tear up. I saw him do "Carry Me" with Graham Nash about 3 years ago and was very close to crying like a baby when he sang it.
I had the same reaction to that song at that time. My wife's mother had just died the month before and it just wiped me out. It's always been a favorite of mine.
I love the child who stears this river boat..lately he's crazy for the deep...
Time stops here, on the Delta.
While they dance.
Love you, Cos.
no matter what condition your condition is..at your worst, you are a brilliant vessel for the tunes of the universe..At best, you guide us, and show us just how far one can come back..love it love it. A pleasure to breathe in the same air space.
Why bother about the "tweaking" ? The song is stupefying, superb, he sang with all his heart. That's the man who also penned "Laughing" and "Almost Cut Mý Hair" !!
Crosby, is a beautiful soul, but this is a bitter sweet clip. If you have seen the whole DVD Stills and Crosby are both in rough condition. Crosby was at the worst of his addiction at this point in 1983, and by 1986 he would be put in jail where he finally kicked crack.
I love the end, you can just see the happiness in his eyes since he knows he nailed it. highest point of the movie by far.
Hi Mr. HectarCrawford, hearing the song for the first time, yes it kinds of slow you down I admite it, but man, this is a great piece of artwork in all senses, music, lyrics, harmonies, etc. so give it a try and you will surely change you'r opinion.
are you so naive to think white people dont smoke crack! ignorance must be bliss for you my friend.freedom of speech lets us know just who comprises america.Pax vobiscum friend.
Mike Finnegin's Hammond pushed Croz to the limits. I was there. Finns was burnin' holes in him with his eyes. Simply magical. Joe Vitali's beat didn't hurt. His version on the unreleased solo album with Craig Doerge was stunning. He soon after regrouped and redid it for the Daylight Again album.
We've all had our deviations from the straight and narrow, but if you look through the history of David Crosby, you will notice a true righteousness in the music he has accomplished. We are all masters of our own destiny. I am truly grateful for the wonderful songs he's written, and he influences my own individual style of composition. I can only hope to do as well as he has. @buddhamurphy - that's not right to call us stupid. I'm glad he cleaned up his act but during the early 1980s Crosby was a bum - a disgrace. Wasn't he freebasing almost all the time?
