@khunwick: The truck is being loaded in Fairfax. From there it was about three miles to a trailhead, and another two miles of climbing on a dirt road to the starting line.
Looks like they're loading up at Stinson Beach, right below Mt. Tam - or maybe they're over on the other side, in Mill Valley. It's all very close and easy - not a long drive to a remote location.
When I showed this to the camera operator (now TV producer Steve Kotton), who had not seen it since it first aired in the late 1970's, he asked the same question. It's really strange.
@B4DUDE I see three dislikes ... remember, this is "those are MY trails" Marin. Haters gonna hate. I guess that's why I moved from where I grew up. The hikers versus bikers versus equestrian thing is unique to the Bay Area and probably similar crowded places. Unheard of where I live now. We all just get along.
That was really awesome! Those guys were super hard core when you consider their equipment compared to what we ride today
