thanks to uploader for ruining it with color graphics on a B&W video..btw, how come nobody is making fun of the sideburns on the groups from the 60's anymore..
Many thanks for uploading this lesser remembered song.I agree with bigted644 that the Hollies harmonies are sensational. They also can;t fail to uplift.Recent Take That is good, thanks to Gary Barlow;s considerable songwriting abilities.but back in the sixties, the less than perfect recording apparatus actually enhanced the energy and enjoyment.Same with Beatles Revolution,a rock milestone too
Back in the Sixties I wasn't much interested in the Hollies - they semed like just another pop group. Four decades of hindsight reveal the lasting power of their harmonies and sparkling arrangements. This song in particular has become a special favourite for me. Maybe you know why...
I had this recorded on VHS from USA channels "Night Flight" show back in the 1980's. They would occasionaly air old clips from a 60's German music show. The Beat Club or something like that.
Anyway, the version of "Listen To Me" on that clip was mixed a little differently, and was superior to the original version, in my opinion.
The track used on this video is the original version and not the one used for the video recording. I wish you had that one. Still...a good tune, tho.
@2000toddowen This is the performance from The Beat Club, 11-16-68. You can see the 'b' from the logo on the right side of the 'stage'. Only difference here is that the user dubbed a remastered audio. I have the same clip with the original mono audio (not posted due to copyright) and as far as I known, it was mimed not live.
I think the track used in that clip is superior to the one here. And If I remember correctly, the ovation from the audience is heard at the end of the song, which should be an indicator if it's the track in question.
The Hollies should have used that one as the finished product. Probably a hasty job in getting the tune out, and then a remix a couple months later that sounded better.
