The hives remind me alot of the 60's band The Sonics (riffs, vocals and all) with a little bit of the rawness and of first wave punk....in retrospect we call bands liket the sonics, stoges and kinks "protopunk" or "garage punk" so it's no crime to refer to the hives as punk.
