solidworks isnt easy as autocad. its far more complex, but more intuitive sometimes. autocad is almost 2d compard to solidworks.

you can make decent amount of $, but working from home is rarely an option, this is team collaborative environment. maybe some overtime work @home

as far as demand goes, look at dying autosector. to be realistic, dont expect anything exciting with s/w as this.

but if u get mech.eng u'll make more money as consultant than designer.

I'll have you know that a LOT of geeks have great paying jobs, so calling someone a geek is nothing more than a compliment.

And if a geek doesn't have a job yet, he/she is probably "geeking out" and getting an awesome job later on while the "popular" douchebags are filling racks in a local supermarket or annoying people by calling them and trying to convince them to buy your shitty product.

But that's just my view on the matter.
