  • Australia is forced to buy 9.

The Australian made Collins class submarine fiasco was bad enough now this, it make the Australian Defence Force look like fools.

  • its a good plane and i like i wish they didnt cancel it

  • @legonascar18 It still flies just is not in production. They have not taken it out of service.

  • hiho !

before you start to talk about jets i would say you watch more docus about aircombat...

  • The reason it took so long is because the F-22 is the most advanced war fighter in the world. No other country has a fighter that can do what the F-22 can do. And yes the F-18 can fill a lot of roles today but the F-22 represents future air dominance.

  • WW2's f-4 wildcat could not keep up or out fly the japanese zero. but it was a tough solidly built plane and when you fly in groups and stick to your wingman the zero couldnt compete we come home riddled with holes but still flying and zeros didnt. the f-14 tomcat is an example of cost. in its time it was one of the best if not the best in its role but it was way to expensive to maintain.

  • Lol, the North Vietnamese only had just over a dozen Migs 21s and Mig17s in total. Roughly 18.

Yes, the U.S did loose quite alot of fighters, but that was due to the shear fact that the North Vietnamese defended their cities with a swarm of SAM sites and AAA flank guns. The shear numbers of those, effectively worked to bring jets down, but still, the U.S reigned with airpower superiority over Vietnam eventually.

  • @rugby86 The biggest reasons that the US lost some of their planes in Vietnam and in the end the war was the way that Vietnamese people are and the indecision of the US government.

  • Can the Air Force resurrect F-16XL?

  • This is because they will start production of the F35... Lol. They can keep up with it. Lockheed Martin is amazing, I don't like the maker of this video. Sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about.

  • Concentrate the money used to build these expensive Jets to the recovery of US economy, HOWEVER, do not stop the research of better jets man or unman.

  • The future is in DRONES DRONES DRONES! The Air Force and Navy have been buying/building drones and an exponential rate. Why? It's a lot more efficient to have 36 drones doing lazy S Patterns of Afganistan waiting for an airstrike to be called in VS launching a strike by man and having to wait from plan, to launch time, to execution. Also let's not forget you can buy 36 drones for the cost of a F22. Also, no lives are lost, it cost millions of dollars to train a single pilot, and psyc warefare!

  • Our air power is old and is facing a serious problem. I say cancel the f-35 and invest in 4.5. Generation aircraft instead such as the Super Hornet, F-15S Silent Eagle, F-16 block 60 etc.

  • you know why we are doing tjis we need more money to support the F-35 Lighting

  • The real advanced weapons are those we don't know about, so I'm not worried.

  • "STEALTH STAR WAR": the US secret weapon, we have never known. F22 is for fun

  • Go buy the F15 from NASA. That should work out. I mean it's experimental but why not test a few out in the field

  • Idk make a f-45 or something

  • the future of the US air force is hyper sonic planes capable of space flight like the supposed aurora. and we already have these prototypes. also if we didnt have these proto types that are about to go into production I dont think we have put a hold on F-22 product.

  • It may be that drones will be the way to the future, replacing actual pilots for the sake of the low cost. After all, you can easily turn out many drones, but it takes time to train a competent pilot.

  • Um, the P-51 demolished even the top Fw-190's due to Laminar Flow wings, a TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANTAGE that gave it great maneuverability, speed, and range. The Mig-15's outnumbered the F-86 Sabers in Korea, we won due to pilot training. Vietnam saw the F-4 had a better Kill ratio than the Mig-19 or Mig-21's so i don't know what you are talking about...

  • jjuuust a quik comment on the p-51 , it was not less capable unless u compared it to their m3-262 because of its new jet tech, the p-51 was one of the most efective planes in the air not because of its # but because of its capability to other planes all in all i think it was #2 in the sky because of some technilogical advances we just didnt have to germany

  • In a word? We're boned. It took 30 years to get the F22 from idea to operational while the Chinese took less than a decade to catch up with the J20 off of tidbits or espionage combined with schematics for parts of it that were outsourced to them. They have more people and manufacturing capability than us, Russia's new stealth fighter shows a ton of promise, and right now most of our "allies" are bankrupt financially, don't support us fully, and have their own new toys to play with.

  • and i bet when the pak fa t-50 and j-20 are complete, usaf will again start producing even better version of the f-22 raptor.

  • well they already made over 150 f-22s so i think they just halted for the moment because they prolly thought they didnt need to make any more. its not like its up for sale to other countries anyway you know.

  • The F-4 was beaten by migs because it didn't have a gun and the pilots were not trained to dogfight

  • Vietmanese!

  • it wasnt canclled it was down sized. either way i believe they are working on bigger better things

  • ,gjkuktu

  • Update! flying again. Miner set back with the anti gravity system. Pilot needed more shealding from the ion rays.

  • more jets? the Vietnamese had LESS jets....

  • F-14 Tomcat!

    SSSEEEXXXAAAYYYY!!!

  • Unfortunately none of this is true.

Anyone who wants to know anything about the future of air superiority, read Carlo Kopp's lengthy but incredibly concise comparative analysis in Australian Air Power of the F-22 in light of current and near-future 5th gen fighters and ground-based AA defenses.

Long story short, sizeable procurement of the F-22 in the range of 600-700 fighters and complete scrapping of the F-35 is the only way to maintain air superiority in the future. Period.

  • @KoochyWoochy If only that were true. ;/

Unfortunately 5th gen isn't our unique advantage anymore. Russia and China are both developing stealth fighters which are not only comparable to the venerable raptor, but will become proliferated into the arsenal of any country willing and able to buy them, and most of which are NOT our allies.

I would agree that the F-22 can take on any number of any 4th or even 4++ gen fighter, but when the enemy also has stealth, that's when the tables turn.

  • @Spjungen ehh not really i mean it comes down to pilot training. take example WW2 in the pacific Japan had advantage of the less heavy more manovarable planes what happen the Navy Pilots developed skill to compete to the japanese plane

  • @Spjungen Well, what about the Germans they're allies, and they bought quite a few MiG 29's ... Who's to say they won't buy the Sukhoi T50 or the Chinese J20 ...

  • @john4short Germany didn't buy MiGs.

The were just adoptet after DDR colapsed. Even then it ist 20 years ago.

I'm sure germany will alwas develop ther own plane together with Europe. Just like Tornado od Eurofighter and Airbus.

  • @o0haltsMaul My bad , I didn't mean to say buy .. What I should have said was They Acquired a few MiG 29's after the reunification of Germany ... Oh yeah it was around 10 - 12 something years ago ... They already sold them to the Polish airforce .. After that I don't know what the polish did with them, I think they have it ... :) ... God Bless and Thanks again ...

  • Also.. as for Vietnamese success against the F-4 Phantom? Numbers had little to do with that. Our pilot trainers were outright idiots. Entirely too much focus as well as faith was put into missiles, which at the time were EXTREMELY unreliable, especially the Sparrow. Dogfighting was erroneously said to be "a thing of the past", and so no real dogfighting training was done. Furthermore, while the F-4 wasn't agile, its speed offset that, but its greatest flaw at the time? Lack of a gun.

  • Honestly, theres no point in building more than 187 of them unless we were planning on exporting. It isn't cancelled, the production has been halted. 187 F-22s is already enough to take on every single 4th Generation fighter out there, no point in building a swarm of them.

@babykevinxoxo Yes, because buying thousands of aging F-16s which are already outperformed by newer Russian designs would be a better use of it, right? Not to mention, we don't even have that many fighter pilots?

  • Balloons! Lots and lots of balloons! If a balloon gets into the air intake of any fighter jet, it will take it out! LOL!

  • you are very right about a lot of things. heres what i think: the f-22 has small numbers and will have a very high kill to loss ratio against any fighter (i even think the pak fa and j-20) and then we are going to have an extremely large number of f-35s which are also extremely capable. i think the air force and navy would have no problems wit hair superiority in future conflicts.

  • Perhaps Lockheed wasn't dragging their feet.

Perhaps some of the funding went to black ops..just using the Raptor for accountability. I mean 30 years you said.

  • Lol your really need to learn how to say vietnamese

  • Just so everyone know's the F-35 (the Navy's version of the f-22) got turned down because it has one engine not two. On the flight deck of an aircraft carrer there are potential fod hazards. For example if a f-35 fod's out it's single engine how is it supposed to get back to the ship? If a f-18 fods out a engine it still can fly with a single engine. The F-18 is more than above and beyond what any other country has. With the Pilots flying the F-18 America can go without the F-22 or F-35.

  • @rooky1989 The F-35 is the result of the Joint Strike Fighter programm. It has not much to do with the F-22. There are two versions of it, one for the Navy with the ability of vertical take-offs and one for the airforce without it. Also the F-18 isn't so advanced as you say. Many countries in europe have already better fighters than the F-18 (Eurofighter Typhoon). So do china (J-20) an russia (Su-27 series). The only benefits of the F-18 are a short take-off and low produktion cost.

  • The Money the US government spent In the Wars In Afganastan Iraq and Lybia we could have baught about 500000 F-16S. This how stupid our goverment waste tax payers money!

  • Comment removed

  • Viet. beat F-4 because of the tech problems with the F-4. No gun and missiles missed 80%+ of the time. WWII, yes, I'll grant you the numbers advantage. But it was more than 5 to 1. We don't have that anymore. In Red Flag (AF training program), 2 F-22's 'fought' more than a dozen F-15's and cleaned house. Tell me numbers are good enough.

Also, the F-22 wasn't originally that expensive per plane. Congress cut the order by 2/3, R&D and production costs still had to be met. Price skyrocketed :(

  • Well, first off, engineering a jet that advanced is very difficult. Difficult = lots of money. It also means that they weren't necessarily dragging their heels. The main issue of the F-22 is finding a way to make a stealth fighter that is highly maneuverable. This had never been done and therefore the F-22 was pioneering. Granted I love F/A-18s the most. But you honestly failed to recognize these factors. They will probably look into making the build process more cost efficient.

  • They've made a stealth F-15 before, Silent Eagle. It was sexy. They should have made more.

  • I think F-22 is one of the top 5 best fighter jets in the world. We also have the most experienced pilots in the world which adds a major plus. All of our allies will be having F-35's soon, another 5th generation fighter jet. We need something to separate us from the rest of the world and the F-22 is that jet. If its not the F-22, its definitely not the F-35. We need a 5th generation fighter jet that will dominate the sky's to ensure our national security.

  • @bRizzle2009100 Why you need something to separate from the rest of the world? Just for the ego? The bad news is that now the economic scenario is way worse than in the 80s. Your national security is at least 75% guaranteed by physically being thousand of miles away from the rest of the world.

  • @alamos8 No not of ego reasons. For national security purposes. I want to be protected by the best of the best. I don't want to have the same technology/military as everyone else does. I want my nation to have the very best. I want my nation to have an edge over everyone else so its citizens can be well protected.

And this isn't the 18th century. Just because we are surrounded by lets say thousands of miles or sea doesn't mean that no one get to us. 21st century technology has changed that.

  • @bRizzle2009100 I can see you reasoning, but indeed all the major powers can think the same, which as always and if not stopped somehow, leads to a weapon scale. The other has that, I need to beat that, and so on... the scenarios has changed without the soviets. China is maybe now the other major opponet in weaponry, but for now their materila is less advanced. And on the other side, neither the F18s nor the F22s could have avoided the sad 11s. Apart from that, the F22 is a cool looking plane...

  • Comparing the F-22's role to the role of the F-4 in Vietnam is foolish. The difference between these two aircraft is astronomical as well as their tactical abilities. Yes, there was a problem with OBOGS but that has been rectified and the F-22 fleet is back in business. 100 F-22's is more than enough. The F-18 may have a low stealth cross-section, but again it's nowhere near the F-22. In simulated battle, ONE F-22 can put down 6-7 F-15/16s at point blank range without even showing up on radar.

  • @AngryGargoyle69 Yeah, that pretty much sums up current US foreign policy.

  • The way they talk, 180 of them is all we will ever need.

  • Future of the air force "FLY FIGHT AND WIN IN AEROSPACE AND CYBERSPACE!"

  • dude you think your sooooo smart. you think you know, but you have no idea. just keep your nose in that book your reading and leave the real work to us guys who know what the hell we're doing.

  • Ok after watching LOTS of jet videos something I have to wonder is how can you use something thats supposedly more manueverable than say an f-18? ive seen videos where a pilot or trainee blacks out in a high G maneuver. What is the point in adding thrust vectoring and more controll surfaces when that will just cause the guy flying its brain to be deprived of oxygen?

  • @homebrewman23 I always wondered that too, The limiting factor in turning a jet is the human body. That's why they are taking them out.

But I have seen an F-22 following an F-15 and it squared off the corners. I would not want to dog fight one, they don't need to fly to stay in the air.

  • FIRST OFF, THE F22 WAS NOT COMPLETLY CANCELED, IT WAS STOPED TEMPORARILY FROM NOT ONLY COST. THERE IS A FATAL FLAW IN THE AIRCRAFT THAT IS POISONING PILOTS. THEY THINK IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ON-BOARD OXYGEN GENERATION SYSTEM OR OBOGS.BLOOD TESTS IN PILOTS SHOW HIGH LEVELS OF TOXINS.AND IF YOUR WONDERING WERE I AN GETTING THIS INFO, IT IS FROM PAGE39 OF THE OCTOBER, 2011 EDITION OF COMBAT AIRCRAFT MONTHLY MAGIZENE. PLEASE READ THE WHOLE ARTICAL FOR MORE INFORMATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheKiwibirder Obama canceled the program outright.

  • @TheKiwibirder caps lock on. . .

  • I saw some versions of the F-22 that looked awesome.

but looks can only buy you only so much

the F-35 with it's vertical take off capability looks like a joke.

where do you place the gas tank?

  • not sure what the point of this video is...almost everything you said in the video as "fact" isnt actually true... and the difference between an F-22 and other platforms is like comparing a Ferrari to a Chevy Cruze =) Go apply for MSNBC i'm sure they'd hire you as a news anchor! Haha

  • dunno why my comment on technical interests on millitary hardware sumwat kept flagged by sum IP marshall or sum1 w/ d usual "comment pending" response, cud sum1 Pls tell mi if democracy is stil around or has maoists 've de world by itz neck, heck maybe I'll jus settle watching unhealthy porn

  • we should come up with an awesomer aircraft thats cheaper than the f-18. but what are the chances of that happeing right?

  • But, but.. the SR-71 was conceptualized by a mutant genius, Hank McCoy.. just sayin'..

  • Hey, RC! Your point is very impressive!

  • You fail to mention the combat tests over Alaska where one F-22 went up agents eight FA-18 super hornet's and took them all down repeatably

We have to many Accountants making choices about whats better for our men same people that gave our troops a rabbit gun(m-16)more cost affective less killing affective

  • the US will have a massive fighter shortage when the F-15 air-frame gives in plus the F-16, F-35 will just end up being scaled back by 2015 (Prediction) due to increased defense cuts

  • I spoke to a pilot on this matter. The F-22 was not cancelled. Their just capping production to 187 units and preserving the line and tooling incase we really need to build more planes or order parts to keep the ones in service now in the air.

  • 30 yrs wow

  • @GeforcerFX does not matter, can be run on microwave and like weaponry changed in fligt, can be like squared or cubed etc. we got alien tech because of roswell can even alter to match anything anywher doesn't matter fu anybody

  • @GeforcerFX fuck UAV's just a way to ruin the dreams of a young pilot

  • yea lets ask someone who prolly fucking fly's RC planes for a living hahaha

  • Nothing is wrong with the f-22 except that it wont land on a carrier. Beef up the landing gear and add an arresting hook and there is your solution.

I agree just to make more f18s, but when you got a good thing dont stop, revise and keep going.

  • The future is un-manned. Lets just go there. Imangine 500 6 foot long drones all controlled by computer programs that cordinate seamingly crazy flight paterns. Flight programs selected real time by an operator. Price is a fraction of manned craft. Also, lets play to out strengths. We are fat, out of shape and not well educated. But man can we play vidieo games. Jump to the future.

  • @thepollywog1 In Vietnam, they realized that a gun was actually a really good idea on a fighter jet after all. You'll come around. After its too late.

  • @thepollywog1 You still need the human factor. The Pilot can do more than some asshole flying from behind a computer.

  • DUDE!!!! Its not Vietmanese !!!! its Vietnamese. Damn that was irritating hearing keep saying it wrong!!! If you are gonna try to sound intelligent get your vocabulary correct!

  • the superhornet is boss..

  • 3:19 when did you last fly an f22?

  • general dynamic developed an f-16xl that could do almost everything the the f-22 does except an internal weapons bay. f-22 is a great plane but Lockheed was just sucking the government of billions of dollars. the air force was better off with proven airframe and adapting to their needs.

  • f-15 is still the best plane

  • taken from an F-22 mechanic they are way more costly to maintain than the F16 or F18. But I believe the Joint Strike fighter will be a good next gen plane.

  • @pcfix33 The F-35 will cost >35% more to operate, maintain and fly compared to the F-16's, F/A-18's and AV-8's its replacing. Apart from that the F-35 can't supercruise, it can't go faster than Mach 1.6 and it lacks both maneuverability and thrust vectoring. I have my serious doubts about the F-35. Especially as the F-35 isn't just behind schedule with a couple of years, but also costs more than double to what they promised it would cost.

  • @pcfix33 The F-35 was supposed to be cheap, sharing more than 70% of the parts of the three different variants that were supposed to replace the aging jets of all US branches (F-16, F/A-18, AV-8) aswell as the aging american jets of all the US allies and it was supposed to be cheap to operate and maintain. Today It's the most expensive military project in history, the airplane is seriously delayed, WAY over budget, lacking demanded features and seems to lack modern day air superiority.

  • @GeforcerFX i dont know but for me i can always see at least a few manned combat aircraft, the Boeing FA-x is supposed to be manned and UAV two in one.

  • fly by wire was not f22 it was avro aero in my terms with an update in technology a modern aero would probably out compete an f22 especialy the mark 3 which would have a top speed of over mach 3

  • @GeforcerFX still not advanced enough, you need a streaming wireless transmitter to run a UAV, imagine your enemy jams this wireless signal or even worse hacks it....... it will make your entire air force useless, their will always be a good amount of manned aircraft.

  • @Baseshocks one point you didn't or maybe didn't want to think about is that if hacked and it's possible on any tech , maybe useless for us but to their advantage , use our aircraft on us !!!

  • Comment removed

  • Technicaly two F-18's and one F-22 flying together can take care of business at hand.. "Don't you think so?"

  • It is important to never confuse 'Development Time' with 'Project Waste'. Corporate Mntmnt loves to chide the case between the U2 and the SR-71; but these two projects are as opposite as Night&Day. Yes, they built the U2 in months; with existing parts. It took them years to develop the SR-71 because they had to re-invent a new science behind EVERY piece (even tooling) from get-go. This happens every time you design the 'Next Generation'. If they were "So Slow", why were they 'BEFORE the F-35'?

  • Scott, I believe I understand what you're stating; and there are lots of folks that appear to share your view on the F-22. As for myself I believe there are many misconceptions in-play here. Most folks believe the F/A-18 and the F-35 are 'Far Great Enough'; but these are pretty-much limited to being 'Joint-Strike-Fighters'. The F-22, like the F-15 are 'Air Dominance' machines; BIG Difference. Russia&China continue to develop/sell their 'Air Dominance', and the World knows this.
