  • This song is so f*ckin amazing I can't get enough of it...

  • wow. stunning

  • bestconcert everrrrrrrrrrr

  • Tina is so sweet.

    Hey, a lot of fun.

  • was having a hard time getting into this band, but this video is amazing!

  • This version is better than the one on Remain in Light and better than the one on The Name of This Band is Talking Heads but the studio version of The Great Curve is better than both the live version and this song.

  • I wanna do to Tina what Talking Heads does with a Gm9 chord in this song.

  • Hot bassist

  • In the video of Bowie's Station to Station from his 78 tour, Belew is playing the same guitar

  • only 2 trem springs....

  • If you like Adrian and this is your first experience check out his work with King Crimson and his solo album "Twang Bar King."

If you can steal those ideas and execute on them then you rock.

Best recordings are the legal ones...

Live: "The Name Of This Band Is The Talking Head"

    Studio: "Remain In Light"

  • after watching several videos of this concert i have come to two conclusions. 1. Adrian Belew is some kind of genius and i need to just plain rob his ideas.

    2. I need to find a high quality recording of this to enjoy it in maximum vibe, is there one????

  • Adrian's work with TH is awesome. I wish he would go on tour with them and play Remain in Light straight through!

  • there is nothin hotter than Tina Weymouth in this.

    She is WEARIN that dress.

That, and, yknow, she's playin bass, which makes her hot anyway

  • @boosh90 uh....yeah.....I can't keep my eyes off her. Completely missed Belew the first few veiwings

  • There will alwayse be a ton of good music out there, we just have to find it. But seriously, nothing, NO ONE compares to the Talking Heads

  • This core band is on Remain in Light and other solo stuff... Tom Tom Club My Life in the Bush of Ghosts....maybe Catherine Wheel...... Not much music like this is out there........David Byrne was very forward thinking...

  • @sherriffofhongkong.......Byrne is also blessed with being completely uninhibited

  • 2 bassists!! Can anyone tell me if Belew was in any of their studio albums?

  • @vargaso

I think battles is the new jam band that isn't really a jam band. I foresee great things from them.

  • @vargaso You are correct sir and/or madam. It's not all about dancing, music is an art form not a way for you to get laid in a club.

  • @colcolpity If you can't even correctly spell the name your artist then your entire arguments rendered pointless.

@vargaso yeah, nothing has compared in years. I enjoy a lot of newer music, but the bass solo in this alone beats everything else hands down.

  • controlled feedback on the guitar is awesome.

  • How could someone dislike something this epic?

  • At 1:51 when he shouts 'Hey!" and that relentless rhythm lick kicks in so do the goosebumps and you know you're in for one Hell of a ride.

One of THE best performances ever captured on tape.

  • I used to scoff at guitarists who obsessed over their fx, but after listening to how Belew used them in this concert to add to the atmosphere of the music, I'm starting to appreciate their potential.

  • @gxtmfa ah i feel like this should be an open and shut book to full appreciation

  • ♪♫ ..and the heat goes on... ♪♫

    ☼ ;-j

  • Mind = Blown.

  • This vid is awesome, this song kicks ass.

  • STARWIPE

  • when guitarists made music that lasted

  • DOPE! ;) Banger! this gig is amazing PM me for the download link

  • And the Heat goes on.........

  • 11 people aren't government men.

  • Adrian Belew is awesome in King Crimson also - and his voice sounds exactly like David Byrne's which is a little crazy

  • Too bad it doesn't have that awesome stuttering guitar solo; regardless, this is still an incredible performance.

  • wow!

  • This must be much better than stop making sense. Is this released as a seperate live-album?

  • @bingodaconicon

I'm not sure if this is the exact version but if you purchase "The Name of this Band is the Talking Heads" album, but make sure you get the double disc special expanded edition, then I believe it has most of the Remain in Light performed live on it. It is worth it.

  • @AboyWhisKeyboard

    Yes. That is right.

    Excellent album!

  • @AboyWhisKeyboard

It's not. The one on Name is tighter than this IMO. And yeah definitely get the expanded version double disc. The Born Under Punches and Big Country cuts are worth the price of admission alone.

  • @wreckingKREW1 yeah it has a lot of performances from the same tour. i do love TNOTBITH but for some reason this performance of born under punches has some quality to it that the name version doesn't have. they're both very good, but this one for some reason to me has another layer of paranoia and mysteriousness that I can't quite describe. it might not be as tight, but for some reason this version is more emotional to me. also the color tones in the video are perfect for this song imo.

  • Yes, it is Adrian Belew, a very underrated guitarist...I first knew about him when he played guitars and sung on Frank Zappa's SHEIK YOURBOUTI album. Then he joined Talking Heads and there were rumours that he would replace David Byrne since the band wanted him to get rid of. But it didn't turn that way and Belew went to front the new KING CRIMSON in 1981.

  • @rockon236 it appears to be Mr. Belew

  • One of those songs that are just too great for words. You just have to listen to it and not think about anything else.

  • @rockon236 yup

  • God, tina weymouth looks stunning in this doesn't she?

Every inch the ice-cold statuesque bass goddess.

Might help that this is perhaps me favourite of their songs, but who knows?

  • Download the audio from this clip at thetunify doht cohm.

  • I'm a tumbler. I'm a government man.

  • I was blessed to see a good few of the gigs on this tour....every night was amazing...a truely brilliant band and line up. Lovely people with a lovely vibe..good times for me X

  • this is really interesting footage. it has a real organic feel to it.

  • @JAKEOLOLOL - What DON'T they need it for?

  • @MaoistBanker whoops i couldnt hear the slap bass on my shitty speakers >.<

  • That bass player is working hard..... tune....... timing. Holding it all together.

  • @bennyh8 which one?

  • can't stop watching this. is there a a link to download the performance as an mp3? i'd like to steal Byrne's look, but i think it would look kind of schizophrenic without the guitar.

  • that pac pac pac on snare, drives a lunatic nuts...! ! ! !

  • Dontcha Miss It ...Dontcha Miss It !!! I miss them.

  • This is such a dark funk, I have never loved anything more than this and I probably never will! Perfect.

  • This is so retardedly good. If something this good came out today we'd all have heart attacks. I'm not one for nostalgia, but seriously, can anyone name one thing that's come out in the past 5 years that even approaches this? That will be listened to for decades to come?

  • @vargaso Radiohead's KID A or OK Computer is pretty timeless i think. not a groovy but just as intricate and shocking.

  • @vargaso radiohead's in rainbows

  • @elo333333333 no, ha.

  • Comment removed

  • @vargaso yes haha, do you not know who Thom Yorke is?

  • @elo333333333 Uh, singer for Radiohead. Great band. Kid A, one of my all-time favorite albums. Talking Heads during this period would blow them away as a live band.

  • Comment removed

  • @vargaso I just cant do it captain! I DUNT HAVE THE POWER!

  • Comment removed

  • @vargaso There's only a handful of performances maybe as good as this in all of the years in between

  • Comment removed

  • @vargaso Arcade Fire- The Suburbs LCD Soundsystem- This Is Happening/ LCD Soundsystem (Don't be a dick about this one) Kayne West- My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy And if you want to go to the past 10 years Daft Punk- Discovery Arcade Fire- Funeral The White Stripes- Elephant, Icky Thump, White Blood Cells The Strokes- Is This is, Rooms on Fire Arctic Monkeys- Debut Album Bon Iver- For Emma, Forever Ago Radiohead- Kid A, In Rainbows Foo Fighters- Well... anything by them... So, there you go.
  • @vargaso anything by ladt gaga beats this hands down...how u supposed to dance to this no.?

  • @vargaso theres good stuff out there but its just not maybe that mainstream. instead of everyone complaining all the time they should seek out bands like Wilco, Grizzly Bear, Beach house - good music isnt THAT far underground

  • @vargaso "can anyone name one thing that's come out in the past 5 years that even approaches this? That will be listened to for decades to come?"

I have to give Radiohead a lot of credit for "In Rainbows" but of course, Radiohead DID take their name from a Talking Heads song. So yeah...

  • just one of the best bands that has ever been oh what i would do for a time machine for times like these , FUCK CAUSALITY im going gig hopping! haha

  • @spick1923 Ha - totally agree. I'd take the machine to see all the bands that were before my time and I missed. Would pay a lot to see these guys in their prime. Were definitely ahead of their time.

  • @ekrueger so ahead of their time man

  • this is cool, but it really lacks the intensity that makes this song amazing

  • This stuff from Rome is even better than Stop Making Sense. Omg!

  • this is what you call, white boy funk.

  • 8 people are the family of a man who died from how awesome this performance is.

  • cocaine

  • Talking Heads at their best. What a fuckin' band !!!

  • my favorite talking heads song, just kicks ass!

  • This is urban jungle music

  • Tremendous!

    Thank you

  • Free bird!

  • Adrien Belew also did lots of stuff with Frank Zappa.

  • they are the greatest band ever (off the eigthies)

  • Must have been an incredible show!

  • Comment removed

  • That annoys you? I think he's doing just enough. Like you said 'great live version'. Part of the reason its so great is Belew's outlandish guitar attempts. I think its perfect.

  • Talking Heads = Awesome

    King Crimson = Awesome

Talking Heads + King Crimson = Crazy Super Awesome!

    Belew and Byrne = Gods

  • yo these guys bring the funk double quick can you digg it? micci

  • Who knew all this Rome 1980 TV stuff was even out there? Dang!

  • Adrian Belew at this point starts to irritate the fuck out of me. Glad they didn't invite him back for their last tour, he was too busy ripping off Byrne in King Crimson anyway.

  • @cactaceous they actually invited him to replace Byrne but he declined, and he also worked on the tom tom clubs and Harrison's album. Tina and Chris didnt give him writing credit for his work so i doubt he had any plans of continuing to work with them (Chris and Tina that is). And his style is completely his own saying he ripped of David Byrne just because he sounds like him is stupid. He worked on the album that this is the tour for and his work on that album is fucking amazing so fuck off.

  • david genio

  • take a look at these handsss...

  • Oh my god this is awesome..

  • 7:00 to 8:07 is absolutely breathtaking.

    What a fantastic show.

  • @PushingUpTrolls iunno man i think the whole thing is breathtaking

  • jesus christ.

  • where can i get the talking heads raglan that busta jones is wearing

  • Talking Heads is culture

  • This is a true story: I spent many years of my childhood's summers in a very tiny hamlet sized town in Utah: there were 197 people lived there and 98% of the families' names were FUNK. Promise, a true story. T Hs is the only funk.....

  • a tumbler was a fella employed to get the crowds excited at shows before we had telly.a kinda old school version of a warm-up guy,

  • Hi mom.

  • The Talking Heads concert in rome is the best concert i have ever watched.

  • @talkingbeatlehead I saw Talking Heads live and this concert from Rome is still the best concert I've ever seen! Gang of Four comes pretty close - Andy Gill gets some crazy feedback funk out of his guitar, too!

  • @bluesbrrd Well i guess i didnt see it live but i watched it online. But its still best. Your lucky you saw the Talking head live they are my second favorite band.

  • Belew ... is a guitar Freak....unreal

He brings chaos and uncontrolled mayhem...that works in any concert he played.

Brilliant... Busta Jones is a nice touch

  • i defy any man to remain immune to the funk.

and this is dripping with the funk.

  • What a unique voice David Byrne has...and such a lyrical ability. He admitted himself he doesn't always write words to make sense but when I read them they always make perfect sense to me. Just in an abstract way

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!

  • I don't think I've ever heard two bass guitars work so well together. Tina's creepy atmospheric vibe mixes so well with the other guy's (anyone know his name?) funk thumping and slapping. :)

  • @JRiddyCuz check out houses in motion, or born under from this series there is a list of band members sent as a comment

  • @jrlong29

There is a list of players under the main title for the posting by tpatgod2007. Click on the double down chevrons to expand the title, see the players, and other videos from this concert.

  • @JRiddyCuz his name is Busta Jones. I've been looking for recordings of him forever but never have been able to find any

  • @paulsbreakfast dont forget about Zappa too!

  • They are few things better than this song.

  • their best line-up, great musicians

  • Busta CHERRY!

  • one of the greatest performances i've ever seen

  • And the heat goes on, and the heat goes on, and the heat goes on, and the heat goes on.

    Staggering.

  • tina is so hot

  • to Kiernanholland......Think abut how far ahead PIL were with Metal Box in 1979...............outerfuckingspaceahead...

  • a stage full of amazing musicians playing amazing music

  • TINA LOOKS SO DOPE

  • Unreal. Geez. I am speachless. I am without speach. lol

  • you are without spellcheck as well

  • @pbl1 hahahaha laughed hard as hell

  • Everytime I see this, I can't help but think how far ahead of their time they were..

    At least 5 years..

  • @kiernanholland 5 years? I don't think anyone's ever got close since...

  • i'm torn... the album version has the best guitar solo in the history of music, but this version is incredible too.

  • @kaini with the guitar solo, you mean the weird noises at the middle of the track? was that even a guitar? :o

  • yep and yep :) it's adrian belew's guitar processed through a sample-and-hold effect by brian eno.

  • This is beyond music. This is music crystallized to perfection.

  • fuck me... that is truly intense. Incredible.

  • i love it

    so good

  • I <3 Tina Weymouth

  • This version kicks ass! I know I should just shut up and listen but I cant take my eyes of Tina. She looks so beautiful.

Take a look at these... arms

  • I love one of Belew's solo albums called Young Lions

  • Reminds me why I love the Talking Heads so much.

  • The musicianship in this band is just phenomenal!

  • never tired of watching talking heads......fantastic !!

  • No more porn for me. I'll just use this video to climax from now on

  • Awesome stuff! 10/10. Especially for Weymouth.

  • Dave does a great solo in this song! I always thought it was Belew til I saw him playing the shaker. nice to see Byrne getting the spotlight for a bit :P

  • i got the shivers !!!!

  • Nothing beats a great set of tits.

  • This stuff is so amazing.....Talking Heads are one of the most incredible bands in my era.....This is legendary....Thanks for sharing.....

  • This concert is the first time I have experienced Adrien Belew...wow

  • Got to see him live about two years ago, if you get a chance do it.

I was literally in tears by the time he played "Frame By Frame".

  • Chris Frantz must be the most useless drummer ever. The guy couldn't play at all. In fact, he must be the only drummer ever to be credited in liner notes as playing "bass drum".

  • @b00mhauer thats okay, all they needed was someone who could keep the beat while they went out and added more expressive percussion later.

  • no.

    chris was a great drummer

  • @idratherlistentobowi And what leads you to that conclusion?

  • @b00mhauer Have a listen to "Thank You for sending me an Angel" from "More Songs About Buildings And Food" then make your decision on Chris' drumming. That's what leads me to that conclusion. No offence intended here my friend.

  • lorna is a monster

  • They were so great...this reminds me of the "America Eats It's Young" era Funkadelic vibe...some of my favorites as well.

  • Haha... I love the random slow-mo shot at 1:10.

  • One of my favorite baslines ever. Such a dark song. Love it.

  • have you guys ever noticed that every band with a girl bassist rocks? :talking heads, sonic youth, smashing pumpkins, the pixies, a perfect circle. anyhow i have been a fan of the talking heads since i can remember. much respect and love. :D

  • what a fuckin band what a fuckin guitarist.

  • Yes, ADRIAN BELEW who has had the great opportunities to play with Frank Zappa, Talking Heads, King Crimson but who is still quite unknow to most music fan !!! Such a pity !!!

  • and Bowie!

  • This is an amazingly cool video, the groove just kind of sneaks up. Spacy guitar riffs!

  • mostrooos.

  • killer bassline. tina rocks.

  • @escriticapop

She is so hot in this video. I think it was before she had kids.

  • @Deadgoat222 It's before the coke began to take its toll on her looks.
