@skip8619 violino is violin. its solo violin, violins I and II with oboe I and II doubling. Cello is considered bassi which in this case is actually short for basso continuo. Viola is violetta. When in doubt, check the clefs.
I LOVE around 4 when all those basso continuo instruments start clanking all over the place. I love it when theres a nice dramatic slow measure here and there where the lute, haprsichord, and in some cases organ get all out of control on that V chord. its the best thing ever.
I love the way she sets her own tempo when she feels like doing rallentandi or accelerandi. I bet Jacobs was having a great time. Same in Cara Sposa. Was it intentional? It is very uncomfortable, but I doubt someone so high up in early music can have tempo issues... but again it has happened before.
I would say that not only are her ornamentations excilerating they are also quite tasteful and as stylistically correct as I've heard. I love Horne as well but sometimes her ornamentations can get a bit self indulgent. Genaux is marvelous as always.
@Tomeres the great difference is that the maestra Vivica is a real mezzo (many countertenors are mezzo or contralto), but a countertenor, despite of having a high voice, can't be equal (not all the time) to altos, mezzos or sopranos especially in high notes.
I'd like to see sheet music of Venti turbini as sung in the movie "Farinelli il castrato" because it is so diferent from this one,.. The one from the movie is sung in a higher register and with completely different coloratura arrangement.
What Handel wrote is what you see on this video. It's the same aria; same score written by the same composer. Genaux, Daniels, Bowman, Jaroussky, Malas/Ragin are all singing this score you see here. The difference is the ornamentation of the 'da capo' which is up to the singer; it's never written. It is the interpretation of the performers. So you can never find a score that matches what you hear in Farinelli soundtrack or in any other recording.

Well thnx Mr. know it all. I know that what I have seen on that score is what Handel had written (Im not stupid!). I also know that ornamentation was frequently up to particular mental and vocal ability of the singer to deal with and that the one from the movie was never written, still it doesn't mean that it cannot be written. I just wanted to say that it would be nice to see that particular one written on the paper thats all...
Showing the ornamentation would make it look like it was the original score, though, which would be misleading. In the da capos, I do like seeing what was written by the composer, in order to compare with what I hear. If I saw the extra ornamentation, I wouldn't pay attention to it as much.
Do you also need to see the ritardandos, crescendos and all that? Baroque music was written in a basic way. It was not supposed to indicate everything.
Well, I don't see the necessity of it being on the paper. Scores are only to communicate what was composed. And ornamentation is supposed to be unique to the performer. If you aren't going to imitate it, you don't need the score. To hear it is enough to study/appreciate how the singer paraphrases the original thought. It's irrelevant if it's an F or a D that s/he's singing? It would look like a bunch of 16th notes up and down the staff all over the place anyway, lol! :)
I would not say that I'm stupid as much as you are impertinent and preposterous...:-((
(Ofcourse I knew that Civileso is a woman). It was just an expression for someone who thinks that it knows everything, you self conceit moron !!!. Get a life!! ИЗДРКАНИ ИДИОТЕ СИСАЈ ПРОЛИВ!!! (drop dead for the trtanslation!!!)
@fromheretoglory There is not an official sheet music of venti as you can here it in the movie Farinelli!
What they did there is just doing an ornamentation for high soprano. It's goes till high D in the movie for example... So it the same tonality and they just did the variations in this style but every singer can do his own ornamentations according to his voice and possibilities!
I know Jacobs plays harpsichord, but I don't think he mastered the violin to this degree. According to the CD booklet, violin part here must have been played by Petra Müllejans, the concertmaster of the Freiburger Barockorchester.
Enfin une pièce où le basson est à l'honneur.... Très joli.

When it says "violino" on the score, is a what would be a cello nowadays, or a viola? I'm assuming that "violetta" is violin.

I liked the little solo the harpsichord had before the da capo. Sounds more natural and fun, essesially good for this aria.

Could you be more specific? There is no part of this score that is supposed to be slurred.

@TrebleB4Mi its, odd, she sounds a lot like a countertenor, in terms of timbre, but shes a woman.
Its an exciting preformance. :)

About the register: it is only the difference in the pitch standard chosen by the performers to tune their instruments, nothing else.
