I was wondering the same thing, Wileyk209zback. You see, there was a colourist at Filmation who was colour-blind and who worked on the animated STAR TREK episode "More Tribbles, More Troubles," which had originally been intended as a live-action episode. Because the Skipper was blonde instead of grey-haired, I assume he worked on THE NEW ADVENTURES OF GILLIGAN as well.
Their was also a Robonic Stooges based on the three stooges, Lone Ranger, Zorro, My favorite martians but second martian resembled Bill Bixby who played Tim Ohare not a martian on my Favorite Martian, was also a teenage version of I dream of jeanie and neither looked liked original tony or genie although I think she had a similar costume.
Doesn't sound like Tina Louises voice the others sound and look more like the originals so doubt they got Tina Louises permission to use her likeness. She also was not in the made for TV movie Rescue from Gilligan's island.
@Landaux Guess she got premarturely aged hair and ran out of red dye. White hair would have made more sense on Mrs. Howell who couldn't stay blonde forever, maybe Tina Louise threatened to sue them if they made it look like her.
That was a great episode! I like the incidental music in the production! Filmation always told stories with themes of moral ambiguity and integrity. Filmation was way ahead of thier time.
Did you notice the change in the colour of the Skipper's hair? There was a cel painter at Filmation who was colour-blind, and he must have been the one who did the colours on the skipper in BOTH animated series.
@Termiroman I'm not sure about that. The ending credits reminded me that this cartoon was produced by the same company that had animated the original Star Trek about a year before this originally aired back in 1973. And you can certainly tell how much more realistic looking the characters and scenery looked as did the Star Trek cartoons. The company would go on to produce the cartoons based on Laverne & Shirley and Mork & MIndy as well.
@ToylandChairman666 "Saturday Morning Cartoons" DVDs were released by Warner Home Video in 2009-2010 according to Amazon info. Don't know nothing about the whole series on DVDs ((
@RatedJpG That is for sure. I had nearly forgotten about this. I do remember though, when I was 10 years old when this originally aired, how I thought it was odd that Ginger's hair color had changed so drastically from the original series. LOL!
@sneezyize Yeah, those good ol' times. What kid would think a contractual dispute (Tina Louise) could make a popular character change that much in cartoon form? btw, the Laverne & Shirley / Mork & Mindy / Fonz cartoon weren't produced by Filmation, they were Hanna-Barbera/Ruby Spears shows. Filmation did produce similar shows such as The Brady Kids (based on The Brady Bunch), which is actually OLDER than the animated Gilligan and animated Star Trek series.
OMG, the English version of this had a laugh track?? I only know the German dubbed version, loved it back in the day. But I'm 100% sure it didn't have a laugh track, seems totally out of place to me.
@jefdarcy I always found the laugh track a little annoying as a kid. There was another cartoon called the Groovie Ghoulies that had the same laugh track.
@PatrickLHawkins The later cartoons, produced by the same company, based on Laverne & Shirley and Mork & MIndy would do the same thing. Yes, very annoying.

"Well, there's not too much happiness in the world anyway."
"That's true, Skipper, I guess we'll just have to be happy without it."
Nice! Heavy sarcasm isn't something you find in kids' cartoons! Then or now!

Is it just me, or does Filmation's output look and sound a lot like Ruby-Spears cartoons?

I think I do remember this one. I remember the Brady Kids, Fat Albert, and most other Filmation animated shows.
