I actually saw the last twenty or so minutes of this yesterday on BYU-TV. It had a little of theat "80ish cheese" to it, but from what I saw it was great. I searched but I did not see it on the program schedule again.
it is a good movie...but in need of a modern revival. instead of the play style it is set in...how about actual places? i am sure halestorm entertainment (the singles ward, the home teachers and other great mormon movies) could give it a more movie/musical look
A really good, well-supported, intelligently conceptualized stage production (not the quick 'n tasty one that toured in the late 90's) is what this franchise needs—THEN maybe a screen adaptation (not the embarrassing one that came out in the 80's).
It should be set in the early 70's, just like the characters' names and the music suggest. Lex de Azevedo even wrote closed-position keyboard triplets into the chorus of "Sailin' On" to indicate that Jimmy and Pam are born in the 50's. He knew what he was doing.
my parents think I'm psycho because now I feel the same way as Jimmy about overpopulating the earth but this film doesn't even address the obvious problem of too many kids... uknow? gosh. Critical thinking is not a crime. Good film anyway lol for old times
well, the thing is, all the math people do to show what the earths carrying capacity for man is are always wrong. We exceeded it countless times.
Now, in most developed countries pop. growth is slowing down, and the majority of births are in poor coutries. So, its not so much that we need to wry about overpopulated Earth, as making sure that we take care of each other.
Thats the short version; sry, no time to give more.
Well, maybe there should be free contraception and classes on contraception in those poorer countries. We should spread it around more. Even it out. How ironic is that, that poorer countries that can't afford more kids are HAVING more kids. Can you really say that is a good thing? It's just so obvious that god isn't real. That's all I have to say about that.
As my understanding goes, they have more kids b/c their mortality rate is much higher at a young age. If you've ever actaully taken a bio class, you should know what i mean. if not, then you gotta be young.
Now, the part that scares me is when you say "It's just so obvious that god isn't real."
I beg to differ. Its scares me b/c someone can be so blind as to really think that. I have seen too much of God in my life and others, and seen to many miracles to NOT believe
and felt his spirit too much to be able to deny it. If you felt it, you'd understand. Its a feeling of bliss when, after you go forth in faith, he sends his spirit to testify that he IS real, and that everything you've done ISN'T pointless.
The problem is that too many people expect God to right every wrong that exists. He doesn't. Why? B/c he gave us our free will. Without that, we couldn't be happy. We would be drudges and zombies, basically, just tioling day after day.
have our free will, and we can choose how we look at the world, wether with hope, or pesimism. You know something about the avg person in those poor contries? They tend to be very selfless. They give so much more than us. We give charity, we teach them, we give them vaccines, all out of .001% of our spare cash/time. They give all of it.
Granted, thats not all of them, but quite a few. They choose to look at the world with brighter us than many of us who look and them and say "Where is God
in such misery?" They look to him in gratitude that they continue to live, and for the time that they've been able to have. We look and them and go "oh, those poor people" and they look at us and say "what poor people?"
If you want to figure out how i can say not just that i BELIVE in God, but that i KNOW that God is there, here's how:
have a desire to know
be willing to change your whole LIFE for the answer you're given
Thanks for your testimony. It's always good to share a simple and pure one. I love this gospel and the happiness that it brings, placing families together. I know that my savior lives and I love him dearly. I can say clearly that being a part of this gospel has wrought forth much joy to me and my family. I love my lord and wish for everybody that accepts this testimony to try to further understand him.
@Betruebeauty I second that, without the Lord and the gospel, I would be stuck, I cannot do anything without clinging onto either one. ((((((Hug)))))) thanks for the beautiful testimony.
@C0rran05 God's name is everywhere. I go to places that are quiet and beautiful and I say that his signature is on every piece of work around me. When the sun sets I say that God brought out his canvas and made the sky beautiful once again. Life in itself is a miracle. :0)
what's with the "Summer 2007" at the end? The movie came out in 89!
hee hee! It does make it look like a scifi! Lol!
I LOVE SATURDAYS WARRIOR!!! I'm 20 years old and it ALWAYS makes me cry! Sure it's cheezy, but it's SOOO funny, and the truths are timeless! :) I love it!!! :)
My wife and I have been looking for this movie forever and we found it at wal-mart last weekend. This recut makes me laugh every time though. Very well done.
When I was a teen (yes way back in the '70s my brothers hid my SW tape because they hated listening to it. And I have yet to get the DVD here a year after it came out gain. I just may be too old.
This was made by a mormon not the LDS church. I know this because my grandma was in the original play. She was the the lady that sent the people down to earth.
mormon and LDS are synonymous. Mormon is just a nickname that was given to Latter day saint members because of the book of mormon but for all intents and purposes they are exactly the same.
I know that. What I said was that a member of the LDS church made the movie, not the church itself. They are not the same. Just like the "single's Ward" and "The Best Two Years." Members of the church made them, the church had nothing to do with those movies.
actually it is the mormon church that made it. Have you read the back of the movie. I remember when it came out as a child. Its a comedy yes it contradicts alot so what. Its only sold in mormon stores so grow up.
haha, this was a play that got big in utah, made by people that are members of the LDS church. The LDS church did not sponsor or produce the screenplay, or the movie. The closest affiliation between the movie and the Church is that BYU helped make the movie, a university that is church owned. Napoleon Dynomite was made by church members from I THINK BYUI, does that make ND a church-film? :P
The Mormon church must approve highly of this movie, they show it often enough on BYU=TV. It is so dorky and so poorly written, acted and directed it's a wonder it got any air time. The wonder also lies in this: it looks like the performers had their songs memorized... wow. Incessant, dull drivel.
umm not done by the church of jesus christ LOL wow you MUST not be mormon.....Its sold only in mormon stores mormon places if you found it somewhere else it was handed off. It is a Mormon movie hence the whole thing "Mormons have a million kids" and the 2 missionarys are obviously mormons how do you get not made by mormon....wow..
Just because something's made by a church member and is of LDS interest doesn't mean it's made by the church. In fact, some things in it even seem to contradict LDS doctrine (pre existence/spirit world getting mixed up). Also, 'LDS' book stores sell a lot of 'appropriate' stuff made by church members that's really only of LDS interest - doesn't mean it's produced by the Church. So think about that before you make umm wow lol patronising comments. :-)
OH i see where you got the desiese from (the twin Pam that gets put in hospital) Its about billy like most of the teens they get caught up in alcahol sex and drugs who cant when their family has 7 children ranging from 1 not even born yet.
this is a mormon movie called saturdays warrior its on video and dvd you can go to the church and they can order one for you but im sure someone is selling them somewhere. Its a great movie i lost my copy a few months ago although ive watched it sence i was a young kid i still have the soundtrack i injoy listoning to.
