i think this english or whoever shes is working in beijing as prostitute.
she isnt pretty so no chinesse man would marry her
so she walk and walk asking people stupid question dreaming about chinesse husband sometimes getting paid for 5min love. thats her life leave her alone !!!!
in respond to williamorchid's comment (I dont reply to him/her because he commented 8 months ago) why the guys drink with guys is just because the chinese (and japanese) like to hang out with the same gender. i have chinese ethnicity myself so i would know. :)
I have seen seveal episodes of sexy beijing, I have to say that sufei is really a nice girl she has enough patience to talk with the ordinary people. The way she talks to them, is really considerable. I admire her, even if she lacks some basic informtaion that deosn't ,matter, such as why the construction workers would like to drink with guys rather than ladies. because these workers don't think them are good enough finacially or socially to associate with native beijing ladies.
Slavery? Oh God, people have forgotten the meaning of this word already. To call what these people do slavery is insulting to african americans or any other slave decedents.
You can call this immoral or unjust, but slavery? I doubt anyone is willing to fight a war to "free" these "slaves".
you are right, but that's just how it's done in China. if it becomes a major problem or someone finds a better work-pay method, then the system may fix itself. besides, all western countries experienced this kind of system (some of them worse) when they were busy developing.
i cannot believe this is my 3rd reply on this clip, but as a person who spent the first 12 yrs of his life in china, i just wanted to say in the chinese culture, when ppl try to find a mate, it is very important to be 门当户对(men dang hu dui),meaning that ppl should only ppl who belong to their social class. For example, beijing natives tend to date beijing natives instead of some1 who grew up in the rural area, unless the person who grew up int in the rual area makes a very good living.
after watching the clip, i feel kinda compassionate about the 28 yrs old construction worker. Obviously, at the age of 28, he wants to get married and start a family. But the truth is girls are more likely attracted to some1 who is well educated and makes a decent salary instead of a person who works at the construction site.
i really hope the 28 yrs old construction worker will not give up hope in life; work hard and im sure he will find the right girl in the future.
they left home b/c they want to make money and give their kids and family a better future. Just like my parents came to the State in the late 80s, early 90s to give me a better future. It is tough and lonely, but it is life and life can be a bitch sometimes.
this is great! Must be a little embarassing for the people interviewed though because they don't get to date girls because they are poor and from the provinces...
this is great .. is there any more of these english documentaries in china? i wouldn't know what to type to begin my search .. i found this by accident =X
Su Fei, You try to stick Western discourses onto China. It's good viewing because we can see how Chinese people react.
I was cringing when you asked the 'da gong' why he isn't 'looking for love' in Beijing. Surely you know that it would be impossible for him. It was pretty insensitive.
So, are your seemingly 'innocent' Western questions some contrived, stylistic, 'po mo' approach or do you really not understand China after living here for 10 years?
makes you realize whether you're in china or in another part of the world -- it's all the same. you work in the city for your family back home. you try to make love second priority because prividing food on the table comes first.
i love the last interview-- the guy seemed hesitant at first but su fei was able to pull out a lot from him. she was funny yet respectful. great!
This is truly a Pulitzer price quality content episode. Not even Chinese hosts care to interview so many ordinary to even lower class people, and she did it with kindness, and fun.
If you are not happy that she is asking the obvious questions, you would not be happy to see someone with watery eyes or deep caring voice either. I think she gave those with the most respect they would like, she does not treat them to be someone who needs sympathy, because they are not losers.
hm... i just think she isn't very polite (at least for Chinese standards). Sufei is walking around asking people whether they have a partner and if not: how about dating her. As a foreigner in Beijing the Chinese guys always see you like that in the beginning, although you might not be so easy to have.
Don't know what you're on about. At least she's open and honest about dating Chinese and Asian guys, which is far more than the arrogant white gal who keep making racist jokes about asians and who's mom would call the cops if an asian dude asked their daughter out!
"Why is she asking such dumb questions? How can she not know such simple things after living in Beijing so long?"
Do you really think she doesn't know the answers after living there ten years?
Man, she's *interviewing*! She's asking those questions in order to solicit authentic answers for the benefit of her audience, which is largely non-Chinese.
What, are you kidding? Chinese commonly ask near-strangers if they are married, questions about their families, how much is their income, what they pay for rent, tease each other about romantic matters, etc.
Just look at some of SuFei's other videos, and the reactions she gets from locals. It's pretty clear they are not offended, and usually find her to be charming.
I would like to know how much she gets paid EVERYDAY to walk around in beijing asking people if they are married and if not would they like to f*ck her.
I completely don't understand the point of the whole series of these videos!
We're trying to track down Sufei to respond to your concerns, but she's out at the Oriental Plaza spending up the 47 cents we made today in Youtube ad revenue.
Is this really one of the producers? I would like to donate to the show if the show need money, I think there should be lots of people like me, wikipedia is asking for donations, there's nothing wrong with that.
@sexybeijingTV What does Sufei do? If she just gets 47 cents everyday and no people support her, how she handle living expense and everything? I just wondering....
i love her show but this one is a little insulting i mean do's she have any thing better to do then harass these poor me i can tell that they dont want to answer i think half of the ar probably lies i used to live the . i know.
While the show tries to portray Beijing as a "modern city" with "modern people", it is truly an educational show. Despite their hesitation to talk about the subjects she brings up, outsiders can see what they have in common with the people of China, a country that shielded their citizens from the outside world for thousands of years. However, just like the average New Yorker doesn't represent the rest of America, I'm sure Beijingers don't represent China. It's nice to hear from immigrants.
I think those immigrant works not used to the Modern environment,, because they all from the country side! so its difficult for them even think about having a girl-friend in Beijing!
it probably does help because people there are still so traditional and value a son much much more than a daughter so the practice of gender selective abortion is completely and utterly widespread in China. China, for younger people, like 15-35 demographic, has something like 1.15 males per female while the average for most Western countries is more like 0.95 or so. With quite a few more young men than women in China, there should be plenty of eligible bachelors for her out there.
However, there isnt enough women for men, which may cause a large depression in population in the future. Women are more desirable in china now, as they want their sons to have a bride. We'll watch to see what happens i guess ^^;
but that's what I mean in terms of how Su Fei says she can't find a Chinese husband, the only possible explanation is that she is ultra picky because there is a large surplus of men vs. women there. I think a little population decline is good, there are far too many people on Earth today and so many countries the population is literally doubling every 20 years which is totally unsustainable.
I agree, but the only ethical way to get the global population down is to ensure that everyone can have at least a home, food and an education. (Resulting in voluntarily having less children) We have more than enough resources, the problem is the distribution. Almost all 1st world countries have an aging population. I just hate when government makes very invasive laws.
Oh and despite popular belief, the human population will eventually cap at about 12bil, following an inverted exponital curve
I appreciate your Western compassion but if you understood the Chinese culture, you'd know that the better their lives the more children they want to rear and that's true prosperity for Chinese. The human population will cap ONLY after we have destroyed the land and there's no more resources to go around. Man reacts to crisis, not prevention.
so glade to this video, she asked a very intersting question to the workers"do you want to marry a beijing girl?" they don't even know if or when they could get married.because the don't have the right(no money no times)to date someone in such a big city.
i have to say you're right, their whole life is about working.
people says there are two worlds in china:one is city, the other is countryside.
LoL!! Seriously. I especially liked his answer when the girl asked him which one is more important, looks or cooking skills. He said cooking skills. Because according to him, what good is your looks for if you cant eat well. Haha!! Classic.
Really enjoyed this. Interesting that feeding the stomach is more important than looks and the bond to hometown people and the living w parents to help w children. American too !!
Haha! "What good is beauty, if I don't eat well." This video was very enjoyable. I always learn something new about the Chinese culture every time I watch all of these videos. Thanks!
loved this episode!!! i wish i knew more chinese so i could talk like this with the people in beijing that doesn't know any, or very little, english. i just have to keep on studying. :)
China's 1.3 billion people! Big gap between rich and poor! Many academic culture of the rural population did not rely on migrant workers to make money!

Slave labor and serfdom in China...One large reason why unemployment in USA is on the increase and the U.S. economy is in the crapper.
Boycott American Products made in China. Americans... stop spending your unemployment checks at Walmart.

that's not living, i call that existing. Same with every job, you don't have "a life", you just exist to work.

SHANXI!HEY~My hometown!
so glade to this video, she asked a very intersting question to the workers"do you want to marry a beijing girl?" they don't even know if or when they could get married.because the don't have the right(no money no times)to date someone in such a big city.
i have to say you're right, their whole life is about working.
people says there are two worlds in china:one is city, the other is countryside.

LoL!! Seriously. I especially liked his answer when the girl asked him which one is more important, looks or cooking skills. He said cooking skills. Because according to him, what good is your looks for if you cant eat well. Haha!! Classic.

Great video as always. It is sad that the men have to leave their villages to make a living.

无知的蛮夷,竟找中国不好的地方去说事
l3972258 3 years ago
我们不好的地方应该正视,并且改正,这才是泱泱大国应该有的风范。
LaoyaoLouis 3 years ago
有什么不好的地方? 哪个发展中的地区没有这样的镜头?
我倒认为短片中问的问题都很实在,一点都不做作.总要弄那些云里雾里的东西给老外们看,只会让他们更不了解现在中国与现代的中国人.

One question though. Is your main intent to raise the world's awareness of the Chinese people? Or is it to raise the Chinese peoples self -awareness?
