  • Man I wish you were nearby before you scrapped it. My 87 Taurus wagon needs a rear bumper cover. Flooring a EEC-IV Ford cuts the fuel injectors.

  • @Duratec86 If I'm not mistaken, I think you've been watching things here for a while. Had I known back then, I would gladly have pulled the parts off of this car that you were looking for. I could have held onto them for a while.

Despite what it looked like, this car ran very well. I didn't want to just scrap it, but it wasn't my decision.

  • @uxwbill Oh yea long time viewer. Ha yea, it's OK. I just got the wagon back in September. There's an uncracked Generation 1 bumper out there somewhere. Dang Ford theromoplastic bumpers. The 3.0L OHV is a stout motor. Not super powerful but it gets the job done, and done well. I need to get my videos posted on the wagon work I've done.

  • do you have any idea what happened to this car after it was hauled off . i just want to know if maybe got fixed and what was wrong with it.

  • @superglueevers I do not. I made it clear to the buyer that the car ran and drove perfectly well apart from the leaking fuel line and the body damage.

  • yeah... the taurus is a great car (I have one from 1988 here in my country with very low milleage. still running very nice), but I see a lot of ford cars with tranny problem (automatic), very expensive to fix, thats why some people hate the taurus and other ford cars...

  • that is the best ford taurus engine, vulcan engine, the only thing I hate from ford is the automatic tranny....

  • @masakikun This was a great car...when it was in better shape, it got very good fuel economy and ran really well. If it wouldn't have been hit in the side, it might still be here today.

  • Fuckin hillbillies

  • @22891690 Oh well. I've been called worse. :-)

  • Wtf is he calling him key keeper for?

  • but you americans don't know how we adore your american cars than our asian cars when we saw one in our roads you became the star of the town coz. you have a one of a kind car

  • @haroldvideos Actually, I do. I've seen a lot of tribute web pages and videos here on Youtube from people outside of the US who have both new and classic American made cars. I just wish that most of the people here in the US were as appreciative of those cars.

I never did dislike this car. We got a lot of good use out of it. Given the body damage and rust problems, it was really only useful as a farm car or parts donor.

  • Found on road dead

  • i know exactly why dave killed his taurus

  • i have a 2001 ford Taurus with 236.000 so beat that all of you ford haters

  • wheen u get it to run put tha petal to the floor to blow it up

  • You would destroy this timeless classic? The eighties are the new fifties.

  • Here's the thing you should know...if there ever was a car that was truly worn out, this was it. Already the engine had a cracked block (seemingly common with these), and it used some oil. The body of the car was badly damaged from where a motorcycle hit it (the rider was incredibly fortunate, as he'd been showing off), so much so that it was no longer weather tight.

I like practically all cars, especially those of the 70s and 80s. But when one is really worn out, what can you do?

  • I like Fords, but I have a friend who had two 1980's Fords, a 1985 Tempo and a 1989 Escort and they were both junk. Clumsy styling, shoddy build quality and a T.F.I. module that seemed to fail every six months. He called me every other weekend to fix either or both cars. He finally traded the 1989 for a 1996 Corsica and drove that thing for over 200,000 miles before the frame rotted away.

  • Dunno...my mother had an Escort with a five-speed from 1981 to the early-mid 90s and it was a great little car. She sold it because it wasn't big enough for everyone to ride in. Still had cold A/C and everything at the time.

Ford's TFI modules had their problems, and they did get sued over that. I don't know much about the Tempo, but I sure do still see a lot of them.

  • what problems did he have with the 1985 tempo? Oh and were any of these 2 cars bought new?

  • @jakesaintsrow123 Niether were bought new, but had less than 35,000 miles on 'em. The Tempo had electrical problems, especially the TFI module. Drive axles, the transmission, fuel injection system and the engine itself (can't remember specifics on this as it 20 years ago), paint. I tried to talk him into buying a new car, but was unsuccessful.

  • Ahh..1985 Tempos had Throttle body injection Which was Terrible...1986 models were fully fuel injected which was a god send and 1984 models were fully carburated...the TBI Modules on the 1985 models were always going out ..Sounds Like you guys got a lemon but The 1985 Models were Not the Greatest....Later Models didn't Look as Nice but Were Much better and were Really good cars..Like the 1988-94 models..those were Amazing..Escorts..well..1988-90 models were pretty good cars!

  • Why am I not surprised! This is not uncommon to me. My dad had problems starting his Mustang II; my ma had problems starting her Fairmont. My dad got a Chevy Monte Carlo and it was simple: five pumps turn the key ----> Chrw-wrrVrommmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. My Pontiac Parisienne, same thing; My

Caprice wrrr-rrr-rrr-rrVrooommmmm: Ma's '97 Park Avenue, Ma's '01 Impala (you get the idea. Starts right up! To this Ford Taurus: out you go! >:-)

  • weird that thing sounds like an old carbonated v8 cranking over

  • @LaugermanPROductions I'd have one again, if I found one that was in good clean condition. I liked everything about it--right down the styling. The first generation Taurus looked the best of any in my opinion.

  • are really gonna keep this Taurus these cars have alot of problems to it and the AC sucks in these Taurus's

  • The A/C hadn't worked for a long time when this video was made, although when it did, it was weak-kneed at idle. Otherwise it did OK. It was a good car and we got our money's worth out of it.

  • So, do you still have this car?

  • My '88 Taurus is also fuel-injected with a 3.0L V6 engine. Yes, I saw the leak. What a shame because it really sounded like it wanted to go!

    Ken Palmer

  • Unless I am wrong, it sounds like the starter motor or flywheel is going out too. I can hear the teeth on the starter spinning without engaging the engine a few times there. I myself own a 1988 Ford Taurus four-door sedan and I have never head this problem fortunately. Being a 1989 Taurus, it should be fuel-injected I imagine. But at least you found the problem. Good job and nice video! Good luck!

    Ken Palmer

  • It might well have been. The starter and flywheel would both have been original to the car.

It is fuel injected with the Ford 3.0L V6 engine. But there was a HUGE fuel leak...

I'd like to have gotten it running again. The body was really too far gone to put it back on the road, but that engine sure ran well.

  • Well its a shame you couldn't get it to run on its own fuel but at least it ran, seemed to run pretty good too!

  • The engine was in great shape. It wasn't my decision to get rid of it. Had it been up to me I would have kept it, fixed the fuel system and used it as a farm car, since the body was shot.

  • Yes the engine did look good, there definately didnt look like there was anything major wrong with it.

  • I don't give a shit what others say the Taurus was one of the best cars out thier, and people hate them probobly becuase they are not "sporty". Nor fast.

  • Not fast? Who'd have guessed...this old car was plenty quick in its day. It would have been nice to get it going again and make a farm car out of it.

Its days of being on the road were definitely over, as the body was really pretty well messed up.

  • My dads Ford Ranger days are just about numbered. THe fram is so rusty that it got an rust hole taht spead to the edges so it's not comlete any more.

  • People who buys a used Taurus hates it because they were properly maintain, history of accident' and other abuse on it, another word Do not buy Taurus Unless its brand new, or it was owned by your parient since it was brand new.

  • I'm just gonna get one just to get me around untill the end of college. But they are good cars. SOme hate them becuase they look ugly to them.

  • first

    on

    race

    day

    LOL

  • Clean up the fuel system it definitly does not get any gas in the cilinders

  • LMAO "Holy Shit did you see that?" <---Famous last words.

  • I have an 88 taurus, 103,XXX km on it, all original, starts like a charm first try, even in the cold -30 canadian winters.

  • IT sounds like it probably has a bad fuel pump or a electrical problem. Fords are known for having electrical problems especially the older ones.

  • give it a rest ok, floor it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • tauruscataz. haha funny!

  • LOL looks like that old ford hasn't been to well cared for.. my 89lx has 189,000 miles and starts up 1st time every time and it's all original; but I've got my eye on the new 2010 twin turbo AWD SHO

  • lol,

    Fix

    Or

    Repair

    Daily

  • I heard that this particular car is known for having engines that go bad after a few years... my dad actually had one and it's engine died around '98 or '99 and his was a '93.

  • Poor Taurus R.I.P.

  • lol "Holy crap some things on fire"

  • Hey Bill, nice videos.I ve been a fan for a couple of months now.

BTW,you're from Illinois?.what part?the reason I ask is because I used to live in the Quad City area (Moline,East Moline,Rock Island) but live in St.Louis now.Anyway, keep up the great work man!!!!

  • that battery is worth alot more than that car is

  • I had the v6 vulcan in my tempo 94lx model with a 5 spd manual that car would fly!

  • classic masterpiece! 5 stars

  • its a ford. thats all that needs to be said lol. cracking video.ill give you 5 stars!

  • All you do all day is just try turning the ignition on . Try actually reparing It

  • try putting some gas in the TANK!

  • Did you watch *all* of the video?

  • I'll rewatch thanx.

  • Yeah ppl don't like Tauruse's just cause there are plenty and not as reliable as some japs. But lets face it 1986 Taurus was a design revolution and a great collectors item! Loved the vid keep em coming mate ;)

  • @Kpeters This taurus is more reliable that a japanese car. I still see them out on the road today and any 80's and 90's japanese car would be a pile of rust flakes by now. I'd take this taurus over a japanese piece of plastic

  • @chorstma44 I really liked this car and the body style of this generation. In its day, it was a very nice car. As it was, the body really was worn out. It still ran nicely.

If I needed a car, a nice one from this generation would be on my list of things to look at.

  • @chorstma44 Me too and the rust thing 100% correct the only difference is Japanese electronics at that time were not as complicated as the Taurus LX ones which are a bit difficult to keep up perfectly but I gotta say they are amazing quality though.

  • @Kpeters I love Taurus and Lumina, if only I could combine them. Put the chevy driveline and interior bits on the Ford! lol

  • No, I don't. Wish I'd have been able to keep it though...at least long enough for some good farm adventures. As a road car, it was pretty much worn out.

  • Nice poor Taurus wants to run! :D

  • It sure did...and I don't care what people say about 'em...I *liked* that car a lot. I wanted to get it running, and had it been my choice, I'm sure I could have. It wasn't really good for the road any more and the engine had a cracked block, so I was going to give it a good send out on the farm.

  • This brings back memories of my John Deere lawn mower,

  • Still have that car?

  • hahhaha POS...I like the fire comin out the exhaust though lmao

  • Fuel problem

  • i hoppe u clean that gas off the ground. thats not good for the environment

  • Now don't get me wrong--I'm not interested in causing undue harm to the environment...but I'm not at all sure how you'd clean the gas up. Gasoline itself evaporates very quickly, so I'm not even sure it would be a problem.

  • Comment removed

  • there ya go man i told ya it would start with with some luck :P

  • Well, it kinda runs.

  • Look at the bright side, "she started"! It appears the gas coupler coming out of the fuel filter has rusted away. That's a common problem when they sit. Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing what the Buick does for you!

  • Yeah, it did. I think the TFI module just needed to be tinkered with a bit. What I've got to figure out now is how to get the car up high enough to work on it. I have a tractor that could lift it, but it is on the wrong farm and would be an hour's drive.

Hopefully the Buick won't have a seized engine. It finally showed some faint signs of electrical system activity, but not enough to turn over.

  • get yourself a 5gal bucket and do the rednieck gas tank!!!
