Why would anyone want a public option, limited funds, services, long lines, waits, ect. Look at socialized health care around the world, 1 MRI machine to 10,000 people- the US 1 MRI machine to 1,000 people. We have the best healthcare in the world, why mess up a good thing. The US does have the best health care facilities in the world. Doctors, technologies, expedience, choice...etc. But still that doesn't mean the US has the best health care system overall. The US is no. 37 on the world because if you don't have money it doesn't matter.

More importantly, this is just an OPTION.

Also, what amazes me is that conservatives say it's not a right while at the same time having no problem with 12 years of free education or public libraries !!

So how does the government make healthcare better? The government can't even run the US mail. Everything the gov touches turns bankrupt. Free market is the answer. Open up insurance to every state, this will make competition. Why only have a hand full of insurance companies in one state? Take cable for example. I don't know about the rest of the country but Comcast owned my town for decades. Now we have choices with cable and guess what, costs are going down. Why? Competition.

Have you ever gotten sick in Europe? Do you know how long it takes to get a simple procedure done? The gov doen't need to make comp in HC, we have plenty of health care insur comp. Funny you should ask. I move to the UK last year so let me debunk your claims. You can see a doctor (a family dr..) ANYTIME and AS MUCH AS you want. Then you can be referred to a specialist which, I admit, can take sometime. Like my mother had pain in her ankle and she had to wait 3 weeks to see an orthopedic sp.

On the other hand, my uncle suffered from leptospirosis and hepato-renal failure. He stayed in the ICU for 2 weeks and was treated and didn't pay a penny. He pays about 20% in tax.

The gov. would only be involved in the funding aspect of it, like in Canada. The gov. would not own or manage medical facilities or anything like that (not that that'd be such a bad thing, it's called socialized medicine and it seems to work for UK and Scandinavian countries)

I lived in Canada for a decade and saw none of the lies you spread here. According to the WHO the US system scored 37th in the world for health care. The 36 nations with health care systems superior to ours all use the socialized model. Please resist the temptation to cry about the WHO being bias, evil, or incompetent. The report is scientifically valid. Just because you dont like the results it doesnt make the WHOs findings invalid.
