HD is definitly important but discs are outdated regardlessly with nowaday's definition it just won't fit Usb like flash space is the future of games dvd's and cds and i think it's about time to make a transition
When I sold HDTVs at Sears from 2007-2009 all of their sets (SD, ED, HD) were hooked up on coax off of lots of repeater boxes. Their initial video demo quality was SD only, then a year later we got HD 720, then about a year later we got HD 1080i, and maybe some cool HD 1080p blu-ray demos from Panasonic or other companies.
We had one little copy of HD-DVD and several Blu-Ray DVDs to run as comparisons for customers. No difference in quality even with HDMI cables.
Now, to answer your question. Will I upgrade my DVD collection for the next format? Not a chance. DVDs look pretty good on a HD set, especially with upconverting. They're a lot cheaper than they used to be for all but the newest releases. They're easier to archive too. I've been waiting for the next iteration of HD panels to come out that support quad HD (4 times better than 1080p or 1080i?). That just gets me frustrated having to upgrade to new formats each decade.
I agree totally. I notice this video's got some age but even now, having just watched The Godfather last night on DVD, I was wondering "would this movie really look any better on Blu-Ray?" That's my question if you could help me out matrix2k3: Have you noticed any difference in older movies (like you mentioned Jaws or The Godfather) made before HD was ever created? And even newer stuff like maybe Saving Private Ryan or something like that? T
@dwgreatest yeah theres no real need to change to the newer discs. I guess if theres a favorite movie maybe but with the upconversion its more then enough
U know i get what ur saying and ur 100 percent right my dude but this u got to take in to hand now when u look at the newer tvs and all of that u have to take alook at the herts its all about the herts ther 60 herts now ther is 120 herts and 240 herts that is what makes the pq sooo really or fake andother thing that u pointed out is that the screen size u dont see full HD inreally good at a 32 incha screen now they say its look better from a 40 inch all th why to a 55 so its herts my dude 240.
@joseph10704 you're right. this video is almost 2 years old at the time there wasnt many 120hz tv's let alone 240hz so some of my thoughts have changed. maybe I'll do an updated video soon
@matrix2k3 that world bee cool my dude and also since your into that whole blu ray thing take a look at my channal my dude ,i do blu ray review blu ray unboxing and also blu ray updates every week so injoy and feel free to subscribe if u like blu rays
@joseph10704 you're right. this video is almost 2 years old at the time there wasnt many 120hz tv's let alone 240hz so some of my thoughts have changed. maybe I'll do an updated video soon
ive noticed 1080p movies playback at lower framerates of 24fps compared to normal dvd movie. for example american werewolf in london the soundtrack and voice was slower pitch than the dvd version. so am i hearing it as it was intended or not. also the soundtrack blue moon at the end sounded different to the original and was slower. anybody care to explain to me? with older movies played back at 24fps in 1080p am i hearing unatural slow audio. whats the score
yeh right!!. the dearer the cables are the more info that can travel down those cables... & the gold plated cables are the best cause gold conducts better than metal! :)
HD will become standard. Just as SD (DVD) replaced VHS.
Really whatever your used to. I used to think DVDs looked amazing when they came out, then after I got accustom to HD, when I pop in a DVD it starts to look dated. I bought Avatar on DVD (Running at 480) and I was shocked at how poor it looked. So its all relative. One day 1080 will look awful.
4:55 that is a really really good point. But the future is HD streaming like Netflix. So keep your library for now.
The game is awesome, but I got a little conern. I have been playing my ps3 in 720p for just a couple of months. I recently discovered how to input 1080p and it looks incredible. Eversince the switch, I notice my ps3's fan has gotten a bit faster and with God of War 3 it doubled . Should I keep it in 1080p or 720p? if I were to take it to 720p again, how can I do that?
I have a 60gb model and it has never before given me a problem.
I wouldnt say the Blu-ray is the only good thing on the PS3 (Uncharted 2, Killzone 2 ect.) but I hear you I have all 3 systems and I'm happy with all of them for the most part
I bought T2 I love Terminator. I would only replace movies i really, really love like Star Wars, Indiana Jones. older movies will look better on Blu-Ray but not that much. Newer movies look great on Blu-Ray.
i have a flag ship sony blu ray it obviously looks better than the ps3 and sounds better...i also have an h.d dvd too collecting dust and a multi pc blu ray. i agree keep your old films and upgrade the real interactive home cinema ones. expensive cables are worth it if you have the equipment. Dont forget 35mm is 2k resolution ever since 35mm came out in the 50s. so your actually seeing older films with the resolution they are shot on. but older films sound shit....go check out my vid
i went to bestbuy saw four 1080p hdtv they were playing fast and the furiest tree looked great but one looked to real it looked like a riality show is this a setting or is that the normal picture
It's suppose to be a processor called 120 herts which just speeds the picture up more, but to me it looks life a vcr on fast foward. This is said to give realistic movement to the picture, but me, I just wave my hand or watch people walk around to match it. Either way, it cancels out fast blur, but in reality fast blur is normal showing speed to the human eye.
also i hate it when directors put that grain in the films it just spoils the hd for me..what i dont get though is,when you get a movie thats meant to be 1080p but it has black borders on it so that shit aint even 1080p casue every line isnt being used that shit shouldnt be even on hd movies..
Well one thing you should know, hd is just the resolution of the film not the width of the screen, so when you see the black border on top, bottom or side to side, the film is just in widescreen or full frame so you are still getting hd though black borders are on the screen.
I know what you mean and I wish that to, but it seems now ppl don't get a choice on what they want because the director seems to complain about their movies being butchered. I you see it from a certain point of view, they still get paid for making the movie and though its redone to fit the screen, they know the original format is still on film so either way they shouldn't complain. I personally choose widescreen, but some films waist the ratio.
yes for sure,,id like the choice of choosing the format like there used to be dvd's that you could get that were anamorphic widescreen where it would still be 16.9 but fill your screen do you know if blu-rays come in that choice? also i think widesreen with the borders is only of use with people with projectors who can use the ratio..
Nope, blu-ray is only available in widescreen. I feel you on the ratio choosing because back then loads of vhs were formatted, but then there were some in widescreen so that was a special thing. I also though the choice of ratio on dvd was intelligent before the movie even started. Either way I feel that blu-ray is way to limited on what it can do ( Though some will cuss me out on this) and should slow down a little bit.
@MrJsmit limited??? lol. The only thing they don't do is off different aspect ratios (which they could if they wanted to) But there's no need for that. Most people that purchase blu ray players have widescreen, hi def TVs. No need for a blu ray player on a standard CRT TV. You wouldn't see the difference on those old clunkers anyway. Blu ray is in no way shape or form a limited format...
All movies are not shot with the same aspect ratio. When you see black bars it's because the movie picture is wider than the screen it's viewed on. You should be happy to see the whole picture and not a cropped one like vhs and dvd's have a lot of the time.
i know exactly what you mean ,when you think of hd you think of big special effects action movies and that those will benefit from the extra detail but i must tell you i saw saturday night fever in 1080p and it was amazing and so real looking while sometimes the res spoils the effects of poor cgi in most cases it improves everything else,
All HDMI benefits HDMI uncompressed HD Video and Auidio through only one cable. you do not need hook up few cables like Composite/Component + ARC cables for Auido and it is really mess up.
If funny when you go Bestbuy store & you see the HDTV with 1080P, it catch your eyes. When you buy that HDTV & bring it at home, you will get that grainy HD picture & even you are using HDMI cable & Blu-ray player.
I've gotten Predator and Commando on Blu Ray. Explosions(especially Predator) and the Forest/Grass(with Commando I can tell a great difference) look great. That's about it. Not gonna replace all my movies. Nice vid!
I think the best hd experience for your hdtv is local channels in 1080. I was in best buy and I notice the store channel lacks loads of hd detail so I looked at a 32" 1080p and changed to the price is right and DAMN!! I was in shock because I never knew local could be so clear compared to the demo stations. IMO i feel that local hd shows better than blu-ray because local gives way more bandwidth that home video players.
Well riddler 95, you have who know that some tvs have a feature called up scaling like the blu-ray dvd players. This takes the odd lines and fills them with some type of light converting it to 1080p. I know you need a certain size television to see the difference, but depending on how close you stand, you can see the difference. I know what you're saying and I agree, but the size of your room can also help( though some ppl have mansions and say a 26" hdtv looks awesome from 30ft.
Yeap, they can do that but I feel that they should slow down a little bit with blu-ray because VHS had 32 years, DVD needs a little longer to me and they should have up converted plain dvds ( not hd dvd) to about 28gbs max. From what i've seen blu-ray looks excellent with 3d animation because the studio can make it like that and plain movies look too grainy. Still blu-ray is descent but many hate it because its another cd format.
I don't have a Blu-Ray player yet, but I plan on getting a BD-ROM drive for my desktop soon enough. I'm slowing down on my DVD purchases till then... most films I buy probably look better in HD. Can't wait to see Serenity in 720p/1080p!
I think what it really comes down to is blu rays do look better than DVDs...however, only certain movies are worth getting in Blu Ray. For example, Transformers, 300, etc. those movies would look gorgeous on Blu Ray...but I mean, I don't think watching Citizen Kane on Blu Ray is really gonna make an uber difference lol.
PPL talk about getting an upscaler I did that then went HI-DEF BIG Difference! I have the same movie on HI DEF and standard played in either the Blu ray or HD DVD player. So I'm sold on upgrades.
I double dipped on everything I'm changing my dvds over to HDDVD (still) or Blu Ray. everything looks better for the the most part. I watched Hancock on cable HD it looked fine my screen is a projector 100 inch. and it look good.
@matrix2k3 what... in this instance it didnt change at a fast pace.. HD & blu-rays took nearly 10-15 years in development... micro chips on the other hand, change nearly every 6mouths without fail... thats what really pissed me off lol
I usually buy older movies on DVD because I don't see a big difference when they are restored into HD then converted to SD for DVD. I bought the Restored Godfather Boxset on DVD.
I also bought the James Bond Ultimate Edition DVD Boxsets. Because the Transfers used for the Blu-Ray versions com from the SAME master used for the Ultimate Edition DVD.
However I bought The Searchers with John Wayne on Blu-Ray, great movie and it looks amazing on Blu-Ray.
I'm glad most people Agree. I know people who don't. they don't understand I just want to make them aware. what I'm telling them is what experts say...I read it and pass the info along
The only way you can see the difference between 720p and 1080p is if the HDTV is over 50 inches. If the HDTV is below 50 inches you won't see the difference, both 720p and 1080p will be identical.
I use my PlayStation 3 for both Video Games and Blu-Ray Discs.
I have no intention of upgrading my Entire DVD collection to Blu-Ray Disc. I own a few of the SuperBit DVDs from Columbia which look pretty damn good.
i think Regular DVD looks excellent still.
However with some movies I will upgrade to Blu-Ray, I already have with very few like Pirates Of The Caribbean 1 & 2, Casino Royale, and Batman Begins.
Hell no upgrade? 35 bucks a movie. ARE YOU CRAZY. I think DVD's are overpriced as is now your going to buy a 35 dollar movie that you will watch once or twice a year? Buy 2 blu ray movies or one ps3 game....
yeah I understand. I just try and by new movies only and just the ones I really like
as for a price a little secret most dvd and Blu-rays are cheaper to buy the first week the come out. also try Amazon there prices are sometimes better then a local store
Seeing as how I've never seen any movies w/ a higher resolution than the resolution offered
by a DVD and a DVD player, I am not qualified to give a good comment. But this man seems on point w/ what he's saying. All I can think of saying is, I hope he makes good decisions.
I wish I had a job and could afford a Blu-ray disc player and a big ol' T.V.
i have a HDplayer and it upscales the regular dvds, buteven i got carryed away at the time of war between blu-ray and HD high definition so my dvd count is around 350-425,i've close to had itwith this b.s of blu-ray, HDand upscaling i have a 60inch panasonic hd/and a 52inch samsung/ tell ya what itunes gets my money i buy movies for my ipodtouch and computer and t.v i'm in canada and itunes just started releasing more movies in HD i can play through apple t.v the xbox 360thesamethg with cinaflix
so yes i think the dvd blu-ray or not is going out /yes out dated just like cds no one buys cds anymore, its all down-loads streamlineing/look next time in wal-mart whos overbuying cds NO ONE! i'm happy with itunes for music and movies, including high-def movies, xbox 360 has a deal goingwith netflix and theres high-def movies to rent or buy through these venues i'd rather have all my movies on a hard drive like my music is and i can take anywhere ipodtouch movies and music in the car on one divice
Yeah I think I'll build a Blu-Ray collection once I get a PS3 or a standalone player.
But I don't have many DVDs, so I'll probably only replace Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, and one or two others. Other than that, I don't have much of a collection right now.
So it'll more or less be a fresh Blu-Ray start for me, with very little replacement cost.
i agree.. dont buy old movies in blue ray.. i cant tell the difference.. but definatly newer movies =] i was watching the strangers the other day... even the sound is clearer and more purified. scared the shit outa me =P
Luckily for me, I haven't ever been into buying movies. I would just watch them on TV or with friends when they rent DVDs.
But personally, I would only buy the more expensive format discs when it is a full set of my top favorite TV series, top favorite band's concerts, or a movie that I like so much I would watch it many times.
But a lot of the time, my favorite TV series are anime and cartoons, so really would they even be looking better on blu ray? Probably not.
Its like a pc the higher the resolution the more power it will take to make that resolution. But on movies 1080p is good. But 720p looks good as well. I can only get 720p and 1080i on my tv but set it to 720p to get the best smoothness and picture. 1080i I never use ad wont ever use becuase its not a clear picture.
I agree completely with everything you said. Also the stores lie to us I saw some tvs with component and some with component and some with the worst quality coaxial yuck. I was like this is the worst way to sell stuff. I made the smart decision and not bought anything there lol. I dont want a crap tv. So I went to circuit city and bought my small 720p 26 inch sony bravia series tv :). Also I would take 720p over 1080p for gaming! Cuase the framerates are better with 720p.
i have over 300 movies on my ps3 500 GB HDD also on my external drive almost 1TB they are all in DIVX quality they look an sound perfect absolutely beautiful on 1080p ps3 an 46 inch samsung screen some of the films are in 5.1 sound get a western digital HD an fill it up so i say fuck blue ray just rent them
I have bought some movies again on Blu Ray tht i already own on DVD, but i wont buy every movie again! I agree with you, not all movies look that much betterin HD, i've actually seen some dvd's that look great & in some cases better than blu ray! Some blu rays picture is'nt that sharp, some come from NTSC conversions here in UK & as a result wont be taht much better than the dvd version! I still enjoy dvd, even when using my projector on a 7 ft wide screen! I have HD dvd's too & laserdiscs!
If you got a 40'' or larger TV that supports Full HD then u will see a difference if you got 37"" or smaller there is no difference between 720p and 1080p.
I agree with you that It also depends on the movie and u do not need to change most of it since a cheap DvD player can upscale normal DVD;s as well.
i dont know if it looks better or not i just like to have fun in my ps3 an my ps2 looks good 2 and for dvd i use my walmart dvd player and i enjoy them
a 32in 720p there is a difference I can tell. I was in circuit city they had pirates playing. It looks amazing, but like you said it looked kind of 3d. hdvd is ok blue/ray not that much better to me. my cable is in 1080i iy looks fine
. Only future movies are worth getting in blue/ray old ones not worth replacing. I can go to the flea market and get 3 movies for 5 bucks. Cartoons look amazing in blue/ray I may invest in them more than another types. I like Movies like movies like 300, troy path finder, 1000 b c sucked but it was worth watching in blue/ ray. I have a 46 in 1080p which I upgraded from a
Depending on how an "old" movie is remastered, a movie could benefit from Blu Ray. Most movies are captured on film and can be remastered to a higher resolution format.
Take for example Blade Runner. It's an 80s movie but its digitally remastered blu ray version is one of the best blu-ray movies out there when it comes to picture quality.
i watch my dvds on a upscaler, and in 1080 it looks digital ,but at 720 it looks smoother, blu ray is doing dvd a favour becouse the price of dvds are very cheap now ,i got the bottom live show set with 7 discs for £20!.i only get movies i realy like on blu ray,but now second hand blu ray movies are becoming more available so i get them when i can aswell, but im not going to change my dvd collection to blu ray that would be too expensive and pointless since i already have stuff on dvd i can watch
If u wanna make your standard dvd's look almost good as a high def 1080p movies buy a standalone dvd player that does upscaling to 1080p. Check my channel u can see my Philips DVP-5980 hooked to my 46 inch Sharp Aquos Full HD 1080p LCD TV with HDMI and you can see my Blu Ray movie collection. Next time please keep your video short u talk too much its getting boring...
Somethings can look great in highdefinition while things can look awfull. Just the other day I was at a friends house and he a copy of the startrek the orginal series on hd dvd and it look horrible because you can now see how much makeup the male actors have coated on their face. Bones and Kirk with eyeliner no thanxs, I pass. Vida Guerra in hd however anytime!
when it comes to the cables u need to have a salesmans mind set he wants to sell u the most expensive set he can. SOOOOOOO there gonna put the HDMI cables in the super expensive tvs, COMPONENT cables in the mid tvs and AV cables in the lower end tvs to really try and SELL the visual of the more expensive tv set. so actually its better to do research on ur own and go into a store with the knowledge of what ur gonna buy and dont let them TELL U NOTHING>>>>!!
You said alot so I dunno where to start. Composite cable? Can't send a digital nor analog high definition signal (H.264). PS3 was recommended as a standalone BD-Player cause of the prices of regular ones were the same not too long ago, but then PS3 is mayor upgradeable. But no I would never change my current DVDs unless its a special movie that I love alot into BDMV. I also agree with the prices on cables, max 30 USD for an HDMI cable but not more... dunno what more to say.
things are even build on that , they dont build tv s , dvd(video)players , speakers , like they use to , it all lasts for 4 ,5 years tops , cuz they know u will buy a new one in 2/3 years cuz we all have become to damn materialistic!
and let me add to that , i still watch my godfather trilogie on videotape , cuz when u see it in perfect picture , dvd , blu ray , it loses the romantic feeling , the video feeling , it s the same as changing ur lp s to cd s or even mp3 , it loses the old feeling , we ppl have become way way way to materialistic.
u dont have to change anything , it s all up to u , most ppl want it cuz they aways want the best stuff , if ur not that materialistic u dont have to buy it , i would never ever buy the movies i allready have on normal dvd in blu ray version , whats the point , it s maybe a little tiny bit sharper and richer of colour , but how is that gonna make the movie better !?
i have over 400 dvds in my collection blu-ray dvds r 2 dear 30 euros a blu-ray dvd i got die hard boxset the other day for 20 euros when blu-ray dvds get cheaper i buy a few
First off, I love my PS3 especially for playing movies. My current TV is a 32" 1080i which looks just fine. But I still tend to buy the cheaper DVD's as opposed to Blu-Ray. I only own 2 Blu-Ray movies and granted they look great, but since the PS3 upscales your DVD's, I really don't see too much of a need to convert to Blu-Ray at this time. DVD's look pretty damn good upscaled. So, I think I'm just going to stick with DVD's or awhile.
You sound like Christopher Walken lol. That was a compliment. I love my PS3 for playing blu-ray and games it's a great value. I'm with you on not changing my entire library. Like you said older movies look just fine on normal DVDs, in fact I prefer them that way. Gives it that old movie feel when everything wasn't digital.
Hey everybody, if anyone here wants to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, believe that he came here to die on the cross for our sins and that God the Father had raised him from the dead. Also repent (turn away) from your sins, ask him to forgive you of your sins, and ask him to come into your heart to save you from Hell. If you have any questions, please send me a message and I'll help you out as soon as I can. God Bless :)
Damn... Jesus died along time ago, so did my mothers grandmas grandma, I dont hear nobody talkin about here or whorshpping her. Anyway to the subject...
my answer is more of a question, is it worth it to get old blue ray movies? I dont know too much about video but I presume the answer is yes because when the film is shot they remaster it to fit on dvds and now since there is blue ray they can just fit it uncompressed on blue ray? or do they have to shoot in hd to get hd ? IDK , im going to find out about hd shooting ...
you can notice a greater difference in old movies in HD as oppose to new movies in HD, newer movies already look good and while the jump up from SD to HD in new movies is great its much more noticeable difference in old movies.
Ive been looking for a HDTV, but i dont know which to get. I know i would rather spend a few hundred buncks on a full 1080 HDTV, but it is that big of a difference from 720?
haha. me too. i heard that like if your getting a a 32 in or lower that u cannot tell the difference from 1080p or 720p. so im probaply ganna get a 720p 32in.
ive gt a ps3 80g setup, and have godfather, goodfellas, etc. basically a shit load of bluerays and dvds,my thing is 720 to 1080i(mines actually 1080p)thats the fact of quality nt the movies or the system even the tv size but how high do u want it,the godfather looks amazing, wat do mean a movie like dat do u nt realize the gun play and story line 1080 is the way i go on games and bluerays its the quality and to size response my digital tv is only 37in and handles 1080p beautifully
I think Blu ray is amazing it is so awesome. If you can afford it then for sure switch over for everything. If your trying to pinch pennys then just keep non action movies on dvd but movies like transformers and iron man you gotta switch to blu ray they look amazing. I appreciate what this guy is saying but I dont think it makes things look fake at all to me it makes them look real. I gotta 47 inch 1080p phillips lcd looks amazing blu ray is amazing make the switch its so worth it!
I read many tech sites and LCD Plasma reviewers say unless you have a highend tv you wont see a diffrence unless the screen is over 50" many people debate this or the tv companys dont want you to know so you can spend more money on a 1080 set
if you have a 32 in both 720 and 1080 it will be hard for the average person to see a diffrence. if you have a 51" 720 and 1080 you will be able to see a better pic with the 1080
if you have the money get the 1080 but if you dont the 720 will be fine
ya man, i agree i think i woul not change my whole library over but i would get all future realses in blu ray. iam getting a 32" 720p tv to use with my blu ray will this be okay? will i still get amazing quality with a 32"?
HD is definitly important but discs are outdated regardlessly with nowaday's definition it just won't fit Usb like flash space is the future of games dvd's and cds and i think it's about time to make a transition

The GREAT thing about Blu-ray, Is most of them come with a DVD as well plus a digital copy! Hope this help you out Bro.

I sold my DVD collection on eBay, and now I have 380 Blu-rays. I also gave my Sony Big Screen Projection TV to my 17 year old Son for his apartment. And upgraded to the LG© 55" LED TV with TruMotion! And upgraded our DVD player to a LG© LHB335. Blu-ray/Surround Sound with IPOD Cradle! Trust me, We don't waist Money at the movies ANYMORE! Nice topic Brother! God Bless :)

blu-ray makes things clearer as a result, it makes cgi images more fake. and in my opinion it sucks. so i prefer dvd.

@AllFractUp

Thanks man.

@dwgreatest yeah theres no real need to change to the newer discs. I guess if theres a favorite movie maybe but with the upconversion its more then enough
matrix2k3 1 year ago
@dwgreatest all the tech sites I go to say theres no need to get a high end cable if the sorce and the tv is less then 10 feet
matrix2k3 1 year ago
U know i get what ur saying and ur 100 percent right my dude but this u got to take in to hand now when u look at the newer tvs and all of that u have to take alook at the herts its all about the herts ther 60 herts now ther is 120 herts and 240 herts that is what makes the pq sooo really or fake andother thing that u pointed out is that the screen size u dont see full HD inreally good at a 32 incha screen now they say its look better from a 40 inch all th why to a 55 so its herts my dude 240.

ive noticed 1080p movies playback at lower framerates of 24fps compared to normal dvd movie. for example american werewolf in london the soundtrack and voice was slower pitch than the dvd version. so am i hearing it as it was intended or not. also the soundtrack blue moon at the end sounded different to the original and was slower. anybody care to explain to me? with older movies played back at 24fps in 1080p am i hearing unatural slow audio. whats the score

TheLifeOfAlvinLowery 1 year ago
The game is awesome, but I got a little conern. I have been playing my ps3 in 720p for just a couple of months. I recently discovered how to input 1080p and it looks incredible. Eversince the switch, I notice my ps3's fan has gotten a bit faster and with God of War 3 it doubled . Should I keep it in 1080p or 720p? if I were to take it to 720p again, how can I do that?
I have a 60gb model and it has never before given me a problem.

i have a flag ship sony blu ray it obviously looks better than the ps3 and sounds better...i also have an h.d dvd too collecting dust and a multi pc blu ray. i agree keep your old films and upgrade the real interactive home cinema ones. expensive cables are worth it if you have the equipment. Dont forget 35mm is 2k resolution ever since 35mm came out in the 50s. so your actually seeing older films with the resolution they are shot on. but older films sound shit....go check out my vid

i went to bestbuy saw four 1080p hdtv they were playing fast and the furiest tree looked great but one looked to real it looked like a riality show is this a setting or is that the normal picture
diveorgohome 2 years ago
It's suppose to be a processor called 120 herts which just speeds the picture up more, but to me it looks life a vcr on fast foward. This is said to give realistic movement to the picture, but me, I just wave my hand or watch people walk around to match it. Either way, it cancels out fast blur, but in reality fast blur is normal showing speed to the human eye.
MrJsmit 2 years ago
also i hate it when directors put that grain in the films it just spoils the hd for me..what i dont get though is,when you get a movie thats meant to be 1080p but it has black borders on it so that shit aint even 1080p casue every line isnt being used that shit shouldnt be even on hd movies..
fretboarder 2 years ago
Well one thing you should know, hd is just the resolution of the film not the width of the screen, so when you see the black border on top, bottom or side to side, the film is just in widescreen or full frame so you are still getting hd though black borders are on the screen.
MrJsmit 2 years ago
yeah i know but its bollocks i want full pixel to pixel 1920x1080p and those films with the borders dont give that..
fretboarder 2 years ago
I know what you mean and I wish that to, but it seems now ppl don't get a choice on what they want because the director seems to complain about their movies being butchered. I you see it from a certain point of view, they still get paid for making the movie and though its redone to fit the screen, they know the original format is still on film so either way they shouldn't complain. I personally choose widescreen, but some films waist the ratio.
MrJsmit 2 years ago
yes for sure,,id like the choice of choosing the format like there used to be dvd's that you could get that were anamorphic widescreen where it would still be 16.9 but fill your screen do you know if blu-rays come in that choice? also i think widesreen with the borders is only of use with people with projectors who can use the ratio..
fretboarder 2 years ago
Nope, blu-ray is only available in widescreen. I feel you on the ratio choosing because back then loads of vhs were formatted, but then there were some in widescreen so that was a special thing. I also though the choice of ratio on dvd was intelligent before the movie even started. Either way I feel that blu-ray is way to limited on what it can do ( Though some will cuss me out on this) and should slow down a little bit.
MrJsmit 2 years ago 2
@MrJsmit limited??? lol. The only thing they don't do is off different aspect ratios (which they could if they wanted to) But there's no need for that. Most people that purchase blu ray players have widescreen, hi def TVs. No need for a blu ray player on a standard CRT TV. You wouldn't see the difference on those old clunkers anyway. Blu ray is in no way shape or form a limited format...
bandit7498 2 years ago
All movies are not shot with the same aspect ratio. When you see black bars it's because the movie picture is wider than the screen it's viewed on. You should be happy to see the whole picture and not a cropped one like vhs and dvd's have a lot of the time.
musicfuse 2 years ago
i know exactly what you mean ,when you think of hd you think of big special effects action movies and that those will benefit from the extra detail but i must tell you i saw saturday night fever in 1080p and it was amazing and so real looking while sometimes the res spoils the effects of poor cgi in most cases it improves everything else,
fretboarder 2 years ago
All HDMI benefits HDMI uncompressed HD Video and Auidio through only one cable. you do not need hook up few cables like Composite/Component + ARC cables for Auido and it is really mess up.
fantamas2006 2 years ago

fantamas2006 2 years ago
I've gotten Predator and Commando on Blu Ray. Explosions(especially Predator) and the Forest/Grass(with Commando I can tell a great difference) look great. That's about it. Not gonna replace all my movies. Nice vid!
rhyse007 2 years ago
I think the best hd experience for your hdtv is local channels in 1080. I was in best buy and I notice the store channel lacks loads of hd detail so I looked at a 32" 1080p and changed to the price is right and DAMN!! I was in shock because I never knew local could be so clear compared to the demo stations. IMO i feel that local hd shows better than blu-ray because local gives way more bandwidth that home video players.
MrJsmit 2 years ago
TV Stations have no intention of switching to 1080p anytime soon. It won't happen for a long time.
Besides the only way you can see the true difference of 1080p is if the HDTV is over 50inches.
Riddler95 2 years ago
Well riddler 95, you have who know that some tvs have a feature called up scaling like the blu-ray dvd players. This takes the odd lines and fills them with some type of light converting it to 1080p. I know you need a certain size television to see the difference, but depending on how close you stand, you can see the difference. I know what you're saying and I agree, but the size of your room can also help( though some ppl have mansions and say a 26" hdtv looks awesome from 30ft.
MrJsmit 2 years ago
Yeah I know about Upscaling.
I didn't know that HDTVs do it now.
Riddler95 2 years ago
Yeap, they can do that but I feel that they should slow down a little bit with blu-ray because VHS had 32 years, DVD needs a little longer to me and they should have up converted plain dvds ( not hd dvd) to about 28gbs max. From what i've seen blu-ray looks excellent with 3d animation because the studio can make it like that and plain movies look too grainy. Still blu-ray is descent but many hate it because its another cd format.
MrJsmit 2 years ago
agreed, when you look at Hdtvs at a store they dont look like they are being used at full power with HD cables or eny HD source.

I think what it really comes down to is blu rays do look better than DVDs...however, only certain movies are worth getting in Blu Ray.
I might pick up Blade Runner on Blu-Ray.

The only way you can see the difference between 720p and 1080p is if the HDTV is over 50 inches. If the HDTV is below 50 inches you won't see the difference, both 720p and 1080p will be identical.

If you got a 40'' or larger TV that supports Full HD then u will see a difference if you got 37"" or smaller there is no difference between 720p and 1080p.

Depending on how an "old" movie is remastered, a movie could benefit from Blu Ray. Most movies are captured on film and can be remastered to a higher resolution format.
Take for example Blade Runner. It's an 80s movie but its digitally remastered blu ray version is one of the best blu-ray movies out there when it comes to picture quality.

when it comes to the cables u need to have a salesmans mind set he wants to sell u the most expensive set he can.

I also agree with the prices on cables, max 30 USD for an HDMI cable but not more... dunno what more to say.

things are even build on that , they dont build tv s , dvd(video)players , speakers , like they use to , it all lasts for 4 ,5 years tops , cuz they know u will buy a new one in 2/3 years cuz we all have become to damn materialistic!
creationofsociety 3 years ago
and let me add to that , i still watch my godfather trilogie on videotape , cuz when u see it in perfect picture , dvd , blu ray , it loses the romantic feeling , the video feeling , it s the same as changing ur lp s to cd s or even mp3 , it loses the old feeling , we ppl have become way way way to materialistic.
creationofsociety 3 years ago
u dont have to change anything , it s all up to u , most ppl want it cuz they aways want the best stuff , if ur not that materialistic u dont have to buy it , i would never ever buy the movies i allready have on normal dvd in blu ray version , whats the point , it s maybe a little tiny bit sharper and richer of colour , but how is that gonna make the movie better !?

PS He's returning soon, it's time to get ready.

my answer is more of a question, is it worth it to get old blue ray movies? I dont know too much about video but I presume the answer is yes because when the film is shot they remaster it to fit on dvds and now since there is blue ray they can just fit it uncompressed on blue ray? or do they have to shoot in hd to get hd ? IDK , im going to find out about hd shooting ...
rickalex21 3 years ago
you can notice a greater difference in old movies in HD as oppose to new movies in HD, newer movies already look good and while the jump up from SD to HD in new movies is great its much more noticeable difference in old movies.

Ive been looking for a HDTV, but i dont know which to get. I know i would rather spend a few hundred buncks on a full 1080 HDTV, but it is that big of a difference from 720?
VoltaireTempentry 3 years ago
haha. me too. i heard that like if your getting a a 32 in or lower that u cannot tell the difference from 1080p or 720p. so im probaply ganna get a 720p 32in.
Ruens07 3 years ago
Hmm, i wonder howd itd look on a 42" screen, thats the size model ive been looking into. Its just this side of $1000 too.

ive gt a ps3 80g setup, and have godfather, goodfellas, etc. basically a shit load of bluerays and dvds,my thing is 720 to 1080i(mines actually 1080p)thats the fact of quality nt the movies or the system even the tv size but how high do u want it,the godfather looks amazing, wat do mean a movie like dat do u nt realize the gun play and story line 1080 is the way i go on games and bluerays its the quality and to size response my digital tv is only 37in and handles 1080p beautifully
southerner04 3 years ago
Well... you don't have to replace your dvds, just get new movies on blu ray instead of dvd. :)

I gotta 47 inch 1080p phillips lcd looks amazing blu ray is amazing make the switch its so worth it!
adrummingweed 3 years ago
i think i gonna get a projector. A screen with 70-80" must be awesome in 1080p

Blu-Ray players are no doubt the greatest thing that can be bundled with a great system.
I have a PS3 on my 50-inch 1080p DLP TV, and it's great.
The blu-ray player upscales the regular DVD's which is just great.

I read many tech sites and LCD Plasma reviewers say unless you have a highend tv you wont see a diffrence unless the screen is over 50" many people debate this or the tv companys dont want you to know so you can spend more money on a 1080 set
if you have a 32 in both 720 and 1080 it will be hard for the average person to see a diffrence. if you have a 51" 720 and 1080 you will be able to see a better pic with the 1080
if you have the money get the 1080 but if you dont the 720 will be fine
matrix2k3 3 years ago
ya man, i agree i think i woul not change my whole library over but i would get all future realses in blu ray. iam getting a 32" 720p tv to use with my blu ray will this be okay? will i still get amazing quality with a 32"?
