I heard something like this , but alot louder one night camping out on my land , we dont have howler monkeys in oklahoma lol , so wth was it ? I dont camp out up there anymore , not in tents anyway . If you add a higher pitch scream in with this howler its really close to what my son and I heard . If anyone can tell me what I heard I would greatly appreciate it . It was so loud my son covered his ears . I plan on building a house up there and living up there some day , but a little freaked out .
We have these at out zoo in the Tropical Discovery building. And even just comming in the building they sound like they are next door and they are about in the midddle of it!
used to wake me up sunday morning when lived across from national zoo - when the crank up (which this one here didn't do) they really sound intimidating
I was descending the big temple at Lamanai 2 weeks ago and heard this noise piercing through the jungle. Well, I nearly died. Thought it was a pack of jaguars. Relieved to discover it was these guys and yes, they'd be better than having an alarm on your house...
I remember going to the LA Zoo when I was about 5 or 6 and seeing about 3 of these making this sound when I walked up to its area. I was so scared. I'm still a little scared of howler monkies because of that.
I saw them in Guatemala. LOTS of them. It's really scary when you are in your bed at night and hear them calling all around you outside in the complete darkness. The Guatemalans told us they are calling for the rains to come.
I'm reading "The River of Doubt" about Theodore Roosevelt's journey into the Amazon Rain Forest in 1914. It describes the sound of the Howler Monkey. The book doesn't do it justice. Can you imagine going into uncharted jungle and hearing that sound?
I just made a trip through Mexico with a couple of friends. We stayed in hammocks in the jungle at Pelenque and were greeted by howler monkeys close by! Considering we didn't have a clue what they looked like they sound absolutely massive! It was pretty scary. lol
@boorad92 They did use this sound in the Jurassic park movie. Remember that poisonous dinosaur that friiled out and spat poison and the part where he dried to get away with the dna in the car? Right there was a howler monkey sound.
sounds a bit demonic
