Ohrdruf, the only camp Eisenhower visited, with General Bradley, General Patton, & a film crew, on April 12, 1945.
The camp was liberated 4th April 1945, but the dead bodies found there were left on display (literally) until at least early May 1945. Eisenhower ordered all nearby US military units to visit Ohrdruf to see the approximately 2 dozen (rapidly decomposing) emaciated (symptom of typhus) corpses.

My father was in eastern poland (now ukraine) The nazis took him and forced him to work in a labour camp in Germany. My mother was in southern poland. Right in the middle of the route from germany to russia. A lot of german activity in that area. Tanks and planes moving day and night in both directions.

People, including Holocaust scholars, use "Auschwitz" to describe the entire camp network centered around Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II/Birkenau. Birkenau was a hybrid extermination and concentration camp. It had the highest body count of the Nazi death camps by the summer of 1944.

American troops did go to the concentration camps. Some of them gave snickers to the survivors and they died after eating it. Their bodies couldn't handle food like that at that point.

Well, there are two options. Either Obama wants to cash on something he has absolutely no connection to or he heard the story when he was young enough that he doesn't remember the particulars and got the names mixed up, while his uncle's unit was involved in liberation of another camp.
As for the views on communism, while I'm far from praising it, it has little to do with the discussion. Sure the countries under the regime weren't free. That doesn't change the fact which army got there first

My father was in eastern poland (now ukraine) The nazis took him and forced him to work in a labour camp in Germany. My mother was in southern poland. Right in the middle of the route from germany to russia. A lot of german activity in that area. Tanks and planes moving day and night in both directions.

German doctor ruptured his ear drum. Lost all hearing in one ear. Still have his id card with nazi stamp and all. quite a souvenir. He's passed away. Didn't like talking about the war. Saw alot of death.

You forgot Treblinka, which was one of the worst along with Sobibor, Belzec and Auschwitz-Birkenau. Those camps along with Majdanek and Chelmno-nad-Nerem were the "only" extermination installations. Aus.-Birk. was a hybrid kz/vernichtungslager.

People, including Holocaust scholars, use "Auschwitz" to describe the entire camp network centered around Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II/Birkenau. Birkenau was a hybrid extermination and concentration camp. It had the highest body count of the Nazi death camps by the summer of 1944.
