i think it was an ego problem, shows ended up being a dave show and that wasnt very well taken by the rest of the band. To me firing dave a BIG mistake

Matt Cameron is very good too but it is so disapointing when he plays Abruzzese's original songs... he just simplifies the scores. He was better in Soundgarden.
Pearl jam was so wrong to fire Dave!!! He was their best drummer and contributed to a lot of great live shows. He was the only one in the band to show up at the 93' AMA's to accept their award.
dave had much more feels and added a kinda funk rock thing to the sound, in my humble opinion he was the best pj drummer, didnt he fall out with vedder and thats why he isnt in pj anymore??

Matt cameron.....in the 2000 tour....he sped up like a mother fucker....but anyways he's on time alot more now. Dave doesn't speed up too much...he made even flow alot better than the studio version

dave had to quit drumming foe awhile to get surgery for severe carpel tunnel and thats why he is no longer in pj....the band had to move on...matt cameron in my opinion is a better timekeeper dave a always sped the songs up live, and some bands want that live but i think matt is an amazing drummer especially in soundgarden where he could help write the weird time stuff
amazing in soundgarden. but when you compare the two in pearl jam, dave is better. look at some videos of pearl jam in 92 and compare it to now. but i love cameron nonetheless i think he's incredible and revolutionary in soundgarden. i just prefer dave in pj.
ILUSO, cameron is the one having trouble speeding the songs up, even flow played by cameron sucks, doesnt have the funky groove the song needs and that dave gave to it.
Actually he was kicked out because nobody saw eye to eye with him, he was a money grabbing, right wing wanker! He liked guns and that's why Glorified G was written, he didn't fit in PJ and I'm glad he was kicked. I do agree though, that Matt cameron is way better than Dave ever was.

I see here many people saying that Dave uses too much the cymbals. Fact is, during the 90s, not only Dave but other drummers used to do the same. In Rage against the machine, beastie boys, Stone Temple Pilots,Alice in Chains and even Matthew Cameron while in Sound GArden used to do the same...unfortunately people have a very small memory! Dave was the best PJ drummer!

Matt cameron can run circles around Dave as afar as skill and style is concerned. Matts style is so unique and different that the average person won't even be able to understand it. And that is why they say he sucks, because they don't get it.

Back in the late 90's, my friend called the recording company that put out Dave's Green Romance Orchestra album years ago. He was asking about Dave and if he'd put anything new out. They said "hold on a minute" and put Dave on the phone. My friend nearly shit his pants. He actually got to talk to Dave and Dave even sent him a hand written envelope with his CD that he'd autographed for him. It was bad ass. Very cool guy. We'll never forget that day.
Not to down play Cameron, he had some great work with SG.... But as far as PJ gose there is no doubt who's more suited for their style... At least I hope Eddie din't want to puposely down grade th drums all together... Cause Dave was the atraction, and the energy of the band and u could seeit resinate in thhe guys, and a drummer u could help but watch.. Cameron is a back drop

Hello everyone! 3 or 4 years ago I left a message at the Drummer world forum. It was post about Dave and his drumming. Yesterday someone responsed for this message, and I get the info that Dave "suffers from carpal tunnel syndrome but still plays drums". I don't know if that's true, but if it is... it's fuckin' horrible and sad! Dave is my second god of drums!
Yeah it sucks. I have tendonitus in both of my wrists and it can get pretty shitty after a while. It doesn't make drumming impossible however. He'll be fine!
I totaly agree, Dave's feel and groove suited Pearl Jam so much, Matt is great but the songs (espacialy live) don't have the same feel, the best Pearl Jam drummer ever!!!!
Pearl Jam started sucking the minute they canned Dave. He was the source of all their energy. They are completely lame now. Eddie would kill himself if he pulled his head out of his ass long enough to smell how mainstream they are.
Alright, Dave A. is a great drummer, but people need to stop saying Matt Cameron sucks. Obviously he doesn't. Just because you don't like someone's style doesn't mean they suck. For example (from a guitarist perspective), I hate Michael Angelo Batio's music but I am not going to deny is a great player. Plus, if you put Dave in for a lot of the songs Matt played on, Dave wouldn't sound right in my opinion.
What really sucks is that songs were eventually written without Dave. No, Matt does not suck, hes badass! But Dave was different. There was something about him that made him more than just a regular drummer. Speaking from a drummers perspective, Matt C is just a regular drummer IMO, talented, but regular.
Dave was pearl jams best drummer by far. He brought so much more groove, energy, and power to the table. His amazing right foot, and use of many splashes to accent the songs is sorely missed.
Matt Cameron was a perfect fit for Soundgarden, as their songs are more technical (odd/changing time signatures, less groove). However, Cameron absolutely sucks the energy out of old pearl jam songs. He BUTCHERS Animal, Go, Porch, Evenflow, Why Go, Dirty Frank etc.
Dave Abbruzzese was PJ's best drummer... no doubt about it. Far more groove, funk, and energy than Irons or Cameron. Can't get enough of splash cymbals.
Cameron too is a sick drummer, and was a perfect fit for Soundgarden. Their songs were more structured (in terms of changing/odd time signatures and looping tom melodies) than pj's songs. However, Cameron sucks the life out of all early pearl jam songs. I cant even listen to Even flow, why go, porch, go, animal etc. when Camerons behind the kit
At the Grammys after Vitalogy, Stone thanked Dave for contributing to the album. It shows perhaps not all agreed with Eddie on the sacking. Vs and Vitalogy smashed the charts. It's been downhill for PJ since. What's special about Dave is his feel. I just don't feel the same about Matt Cameron although he's very good technically.
Kim Neely's Pearl Jam biography Five against One said that Vedder's problem with Abbruzzese was political, not musical. Vedder felt that Abbruzzese was enjoying rock stardom too much. A very poor reason for firing a band member, I think. Thing is, though, it might have been better for Dave Abbruzzese's mental health, seeing as Vedder was treating him very badly even when he was in the band; according to Neely, Vedder had a Jack Iron's fixation at that point.
Dave A. is my favorite pearl jam drummer but Dave K. was the best fit, i love cameron with temple of the dog and soundgarden but krusen was the perfect mid point between cameron and Abruzzese.
To tell the truth, I've been satisfied with every Pearl Jam drummer. They've never had a weak lineup: Dave (who WAS the most original, imo), Jack Irons, Matt Cameron. They've had a couple that never recorded albums, but the ones who had, wow. They're awesome.

In Pearl Jam, Dave was a powerful hitter, but at the same time, he played behind the beat; which is a rare talent for any musician. Playing behind the beat brings power and intensity to the performance. And yea, he had the groove and funk, which was an important feature of Pearl Jam's sound.
my feel is that Dave was more groovy and some times even funky, not taking away that he was a hard hitter and used a lot of cymbals. but he had more groove (which i prefer) than matt cameron who is more of a basic rock drummer but he's awesome at that.
Abbruzzese was the only Pearl Jam drummer who had crushing power as well as groove. "Rearviewmirror" was like the sound of God's cannons. Dave Krusen and Jack Irons had groove but not that punishing sound, and I never really liked Matt Cameron, myself. Like John Bonham, Abbruzzese had a remarkably light touch as well, when the song called for it: "Better Man", "Immortality", "Last Exit"...

I see here many people saying that Dave uses too much the cymbals. Fact is, during the 90s, not only Dave but other drummers used to do the same. In Rage against the machine, beastie boys, Stone Temple Pilots,Alice in Chains and even Matthew Cameron while in Sound GArden used to do the same...unfortunately people have a very small memory! Dave was the best PJ drummer!

dave a rules.if he played matt cams parts the song would be better.imagine dave on green disease or given to fly,comatose,army reserve,brain of j,breakerfall,gods dice,light years ect.matt is good,matt chamberlain is good,dave krusen is okay,jack irons is boring,dave a is great.ive played drums for 21 years now i should know.dave,gene hoglan,sean rienart,richard christy,chad sexton,tim alexander,bohnam,densmore,early lars are my favs.

Anyone who says Matt Cameron sucks obciously knows NOTHING about drumming. Cameron shits ALLOVER Dave. Dave A is a one trick pony, and that is all. Matt cameron can run circles around Dave as afar as skill and style is concerned. Matts style is so unique and different that the average person won't even be able to understand it. And that is why they say he sucks, because they don't get it.

I've seen PJ with and without Abruzzese and they were far better with him at the helm! Dave's an incredible drummer and the sad thing is....Eddie hated him for that and insisted they fire him.

there wuz this ticketmaster protest thing pj wanted to do and dave didnt agree with it. they wanted their tickets cheaper for their fans. also he liked the spotlight, getting girls, partying, etc. pj didnt want a party boy.

Back in the late 90's, my friend called the recording company that put out Dave's Green Romance Orchestra album years ago. He was asking about Dave and if he'd put anything new out. They said "hold on a minute" and put Dave on the phone. My friend nearly shit his pants. He actually got to talk to Dave and Dave even sent him a hand written envelope with his CD that he'd autographed for him. It was bad ass. Very cool guy. We'll never forget that day.

Not to down play Cameron, he had some great work with SG.... But as far as PJ gose there is no doubt who's more suited for their style... At least I hope Eddie din't want to puposely down grade th drums all together... Cause Dave was the atraction, and the energy of the band and u could seeit resinate in thhe guys, and a drummer u could help but watch.. Cameron is a back drop

Hello everyone! 3 or 4 years ago I left a message at the Drummer world forum. It was post about Dave and his drumming. Yesterday someone responsed for this message, and I get the info that Dave "suffers from carpal tunnel syndrome but still plays drums". I don't know if that's true, but if it is... it's fuckin' horrible and sad! Dave is my second god of drums!

Yeah it sucks. I have tendonitus in both of my wrists and it can get pretty shitty after a while. It doesn't make drumming impossible however. He'll be fine!

I totaly agree, Dave's feel and groove suited Pearl Jam so much, Matt is great but the songs (espacialy live) don't have the same feel, the best Pearl Jam drummer ever!!!!

Pearl Jam started sucking the minute they canned Dave. He was the source of all their energy. They are completely lame now. Eddie would kill himself if he pulled his head out of his ass long enough to smell how mainstream they are.

Alright, Dave A. is a great drummer, but people need to stop saying Matt Cameron sucks. Obviously he doesn't. Just because you don't like someone's style doesn't mean they suck. For example (from a guitarist perspective), I hate Michael Angelo Batio's music but I am not going to deny is a great player. Plus, if you put Dave in for a lot of the songs Matt played on, Dave wouldn't sound right in my opinion.

What really sucks is that songs were eventually written without Dave. No, Matt does not suck, hes badass! But Dave was different. There was something about him that made him more than just a regular drummer. Speaking from a drummers perspective, Matt C is just a regular drummer IMO, talented, but regular.

Dave was pearl jams best drummer by far. He brought so much more groove, energy, and power to the table. His amazing right foot, and use of many splashes to accent the songs is sorely missed.
Matt Cameron was a perfect fit for Soundgarden, as their songs are more technical (odd/changing time signatures, less groove). However, Cameron absolutely sucks the energy out of old pearl jam songs. He BUTCHERS Animal, Go, Porch, Evenflow, Why Go, Dirty Frank etc.

Dave Abbruzzese was PJ's best drummer... no doubt about it. Far more groove, funk, and energy than Irons or Cameron. Can't get enough of splash cymbals.
Cameron too is a sick drummer, and was a perfect fit for Soundgarden. Their songs were more structured (in terms of changing/odd time signatures and looping tom melodies) than pj's songs. However, Cameron sucks the life out of all early pearl jam songs. I cant even listen to Even flow, why go, porch, go, animal etc. when Camerons behind the kit

At the Grammys after Vitalogy, Stone thanked Dave for contributing to the album. It shows perhaps not all agreed with Eddie on the sacking. Vs and Vitalogy smashed the charts. It's been downhill for PJ since. What's special about Dave is his feel. I just don't feel the same about Matt Cameron although he's very good technically.

Kim Neely's Pearl Jam biography Five against One said that Vedder's problem with Abbruzzese was political, not musical. Vedder felt that Abbruzzese was enjoying rock stardom too much. A very poor reason for firing a band member, I think. Thing is, though, it might have been better for Dave Abbruzzese's mental health, seeing as Vedder was treating him very badly even when he was in the band; according to Neely, Vedder had a Jack Iron's fixation at that point.

To tell the truth, I've been satisfied with every Pearl Jam drummer. They've never had a weak lineup: Dave (who WAS the most original, imo), Jack Irons, Matt Cameron. They've had a couple that never recorded albums, but the ones who had, wow. They're awesome.

In Pearl Jam, Dave was a powerful hitter, but at the same time, he played behind the beat; which is a rare talent for any musician. Playing behind the beat brings power and intensity to the performance. And yea, he had the groove and funk, which was an important feature of Pearl Jam's sound.

my feel is that Dave was more groovy and some times even funky, not taking away that he was a hard hitter and used a lot of cymbals. but he had more groove (which i prefer) than matt cameron who is more of a basic rock drummer but he's awesome at that.

Abbruzzese was the only Pearl Jam drummer who had crushing power as well as groove. "Rearviewmirror" was like the sound of God's cannons. Dave Krusen and Jack Irons had groove but not that punishing sound, and I never really liked Matt Cameron, myself. Like John Bonham, Abbruzzese had a remarkably light touch as well, when the song called for it: "Better Man", "Immortality", "Last Exit"...

Dave's the only reason i rate pearl jam so high, his grooves, chops, riht foot, and his coloring with the cymbals is fucking perfect
and dave is the only drummer to have played in PJ and then enhance other artist eg stevie salas, and GRO

MattCam was good in s'garden but doesnt have any funk in him and dont suit PJ
