I have had the German shepherd as members of my Family as long as I can remember. I had one when I first started to walk. thats 55 years now. If you have kids introduce them as soon as you can as pups and bring them to the play ground, teach them to use the slide and never chain one up and ignore him. My brother

knew of a pup some people had, it was left out on the back yard and was starving for love we went over and removed it along with torching there dog house.

I was 15 then.

I handle a Shepherd for the USAF for four year that was trained as a attack dog. I handled four of them and all were great. I took one named "Duke" to Vietnam for a year and me protected me from danger. He was my brst freind and protector. I will alway remember how loyal he the others I handle. May dog take care of the MWD and their handles from all the dangers they face each day.

I had a smart german sheperd in India called Kiser, when i came to UK i had to sell it and i thought i could see it when i come for holiday after each yearto stay in India for 1 month . Sadly on the after i came back in the first year it was died. I probably buy a german sheperd in UK after about 1 and half years and probably name it Kiser.(well maybe name it something else)

when german shepards are puppies, do they all have more dark fur and then as they grow it becomes more spread out and obtain golden fur. In .24 sec you see two german shepards. the one on the right has more dark fur on his face than the one on the left. Would the one on the left have more golden fur when he is a puppy?

My dog was pretty dark when she was a puppy, but she was not completely dark (she had golden fur), and so I assumed that she would have light-ish fur when she would grow up, and I was right. So yes, it depends on the amount of dark fur when they are puppies to determine their color when they grow older.

@budy2yup Sorry for your loss. Unless people have had a dog they don't understand. A dog is truly the best friend you could ever have. Nobody except God is more loyal a friend than a dog. I lost my dog 5 years ago he was a pit/lab. He was the best dog I ever had. So loyal and so loving. I miss him. He can't be replaced.

I used to be afraid of GSDs before we got our wonderful GSD Gita, she is a great representative of this breed like it should be - gentle, loving, loyal and a straight back, she's old style how you hardly find them anymore. We adopted her from a croatian dog-shelter. East-european GSDs are often more old style, as hardly anybody breeds for show there, but for work - and in this way, they preserved the authentic GSD like it should be.

I have A German Shepherd female. Got her fixed early. My daughter, A vet tec, told me that "Stormy", had allergies. Dry fish and potato perscription food only. We think she might be part Italian because she likes pizza and spaghetti too. This medium size Shepherd has competed in frisbee tournaments locally and has done well, with A second place to her credit. She also has torn 2 ACLs in her rear legs. After surgery she is the BIONIC Shepherd.Still catching frisbees at age 10.
