I reccomend buying "100 sypy gadgets for the evil genius." It explains, among other things, how to build a cheap pivot for a camera. Replace the motion sensing circuitry with a remote control, and there ya go.

Nice. I don't know if it's possible, but more components may have survived with some sort of fuse, if the power is cut out when there's current overload, so they don't get shorted out. But I'm not an electronics guy.
