  • She owns this song. no one can match it.

  • I have just discovered YouTube - thank you for this. I agree with most of all your comments and feelings - this is such great nostalgia and great music! It is a pleasure to read people appreciating rather than degrading. Thank you all!

  • @NevadaTraveler63 ...WHAT?...you mean you don't listen to Lil Wayne?

  • I was just a little kid but I remember this song (and Gogi) when it first came out. I'm not much on nostalgia for nostalgia's sake but it's nice to see someone like that still performing and enjoying making folks happy. Also not having to hear "motherf****r" shouted out over a sea of shakin' bootys is refreshing. It may have been a naive era but it had more class than a lot of the crap that passes for entertainment today.

  • I want to crack jokes, but I love this song too much and her voice is still good for 80. The Wikipedia says she is still performing. Good Lord. Then again, Betty White is still doing it.

  • @Porkcfish As is Ernest Borgnine, Eli Wallach, Tony Martin.

  • Gogi Grant, you rock! I watched this performance on PBS, and it was spellbinding. This song always makes me weepy, for it makes me think of my father's difficult upbringing. It's a song for the ages, that's for sure.

  • Wonderful.

  • A beautiful, fantastic, wonderful lady!

  • this is awesome :)

  • I was 17 in portland oregon and im glad I lived it all the way! 1956, the greatest time in world history and its gone boy if time travel was possible byby dodge im outa here, I just wished you guys and gals could have seen it and lived it! Thanks Gogi for being part of our life and many others to: I will see you again in the spirit and beauty of "THE WAYWARD WIND". Me and my deceased wife have a lot of rivers to cross and mountains to climb and your welcome at our campfire anytime kiddo.

  • Happy 87th, Gogi

  • What a great performer! I've loved this song since it debuted when I was 5, and Gogi sounds as good as ever.

  • I was 12 when this song was on the "Hit Parade" in 1956.. I loved it then...and I still love it...wonder what happened to Gogi...she sure could sing.

  • See if you can find Gogi Grant singing 'Young and Foolish' It will give you goodebumps!

  • Lovely song and performance

  • Gogi looks and sounds Fantastic...I love Gogi, what a great Song

  • pixand: She could carry it off at age 80 because she had a real voice when she was young. Most of them just knew how to fake it. God bless her.

  • Saw her this morning in our local Parade. she looked great and I told her I liked her singing. Sadly I was the only one who knew who she was , at least in the group I was standing with. She was popular in the UK where I come from

  • Gogo, for sure made this her song for the ages, God bless her and her songs!

  • I was about 12 yrs. old when this was popular in the early 1950's...this and "Wind in the willows", "Ivory Tower", "Music, Music" & others.

  • I was around when Gogi first recorded this song.....I was completely swept away by her angelic singing voice. She, and the song is still one of my favorites.

  • gogi does own!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this song and nobody does it as good as Gogi - My goodness if she's near 80 in this clip than I cant wait till I'm 80 - she is beautiful and still can sing like an Angel - I bet she is a real sweethart - I heard an interview with her on yesterdayusa dot con Sat nite show some months ago and she still sounds great - Does anyone know if she still works - would love to see her in person - I would like to know how she maintains her looks and talent - beautiful!

  • Amazing performance! Thanks for one last performance, this will endure in history.

  • iIt is appreciated for the downloads by many but once again if you can't get both the beginning and end in its entirety then don't fricken bother. It ruins the video

  • Beautiful woman with Class!!!!!!!!!!!! She still has the right stuff...great song and it's HER song...........Love her.

  • My goodness, Gogi hasn't lost an iota, has she? And yes, she did in fact turn 80 the year of that video (2004). What an amazing, enduring, robust voice!

  • NO ONE HAS EVER DONE OR EVER WILL DO IT BETTER THAN GOGI. NOT EVEN ME...IT IS HER SONG.

  • Isnt old school beauutiful.....WOW......!!!!!!!

  • Ah....baby....what a wonderful classic. Dynamic. One for the ages. Nuff said.

  • As a child I hated this song, and now I love it. It speaks to the heart of memories and being 10 foot tall and bullet prof.

  • wow, big voice still!

  • An absolutely stunning clip, I love Tex Ritter's version ( which I have uploaded) but Gogi's is the definative version. Her voice is still amazingly strong even at 80.

  • Lovely Lady!

  • BRAVO! BRAVO!!! BRAVO!!!!!!!!!

  • wow amazing???awesome:)

  • My vote goes with Gogi, she OWNS this song, what a voice!

  • True class knows no age! Gogi's the best!

  • Who is that fat lady with the glasses who is singing along ? Couldn't they find someone else to zero in on ?

  • Still a babe!!

  • Still beautiful

  • dedicated to my cinnamon!

  • Another great song from my childhood. The composition, melody, her great singing, orchestra, all were of the best quality one can imagine. I still love this beautiful song!

  • Gogi Grant was really gorgeous when she was young and is still not bad looking even in her eighties.

  • My wayward wind is a restless wind.

I made that wind. That broke through YONDER

Had I some class, when I passed that gas.

It would be no sin . . . to break that wind.

  • @tlyoung88 You made Gogi Grant proud. If I were next to you when you broke that wind, I would say, "Young man/lady, that is a sin."

  • Gogi Grant hasn't lost a thing! Still wonderful.

  • After all this time, this is still the most beautiful song and arrangement EVER.

  • I wish the tremendous ovation that Gogi received had been included here. What a moment of triumph. Gogi nailed it, half a century later. There must not have been a dry eye in the house.

  • Do NOT MESS with Gogi...

  • She still sounds amazing!

  • Seeing the older ladies singing along, to me; is very touching. It really shows the power of music, to make you feel the way you did when you first heard it.

  • Damn she sounds great. Thanks for this. I missed it on PBS.

  • Nice one .....

  • Even Patsy Cline cannot do justice to this wonderful song as much as Gogi Grant does ! Its not just her great voice but, the special rhythm of the soundtrack, also. Even at 80, she sounds as good as the original, WOW !!!!

  • Another great song from my childhood. The composition, melody, her great singing, orchestra, all were of the best quality one can imagine. I still love this beautiful song.

  • Gogi Grant was almost 80 years old when she sang this song in 2004 - what a wonderful lady!

  • thanks gogi for being a part of those days! I grew up in the most fantastic period in all human history and she was a big part of it! mY PRAYERS FOR YOU KID!

  • Gogi:

It doesn't get any better than that and that's to do what you do best and to do it with a fiery passion. What an inspiration!

    Bobby Salazar Smith

    Vaughn, NM

  • I love this song. It is simple yet so well written, especially for the singer to open up and load it with expression. I've listened to other arrangements and I like this one the best. Thank you Gogi!

  • Dear Gogi you are wonderful. Hope you are still well!

  • Bad ass!

  • Performance may not be the right word. Concept is more like it.

  • This performance is essentially the female equivalent of "They Call the Wind Mariah" by Harve Presnell.

  • She oozes class and style!

  • I wonder how this would sound with a guitar.

  • dude i hate guitar

  • Such a great voice andy style at 80!

  • What a wonderful lady!

    Welch wunderbare Dame!

  • does anyone know if this Gogi song is available anywhere in stereo ?

  • Gogi needs to be spanked; I recently picked up a mint copy of the album Suddenly There's Gogi Grant (1957 Era Records). I was prepared to be bored by "The Wayward Wind" and "Suddenly..." but all of a sudden the track "The One I Love (Belongs To Someone Else)" came on and, so help me, I made Gogi sing that damn thing about 100 times. Part jazz, a drop of blues and all heart made this specific recording a masterpiece. I was singing it with Gogi well into the night! Entertaining, versatile singer.

  • Both are great singers, but with an orchestra like that even I would sound half good. They make the song. They are brilliant.

  • No way. I still prefer Gogi Grant's version. It is an enjoyment to listen to her songs.

  • simply amazing voice

  • Patsy Cline is one damn fine singer BUT Gogi owns this song: LOCK STOCK and BARREL!!!

  • @sharx35 I second, third, fourth, fifth, and et cetera that.

I heard this recording during my childhood.

(Uh-uh, don't figure out my age)

  • @sharx35 You can say that again!!

  • Wow!

  • Awesome.

  • A truly great voice never falters -still incredible after 50 years!!!

  • Great song and great performance.

  • Great Video! Thanks for posting!

My father and I enjoy it every week!

  • Comment removed

  • Sam Cooke is one of the all time greats. Gogi Grant ownes this song lock, stock and barrel...

  • Sam Cooke is a great artist BUT Gogi OWNS, absolutely OWNS, this song.

  • No way.

  • Dortmund germany 1956, half drunk...

  • 5 stars brilliant

  • Superb!

  • I wonder if she sang any more songs in this concert and if any more videos of them are posted on youtube. I very vaguely remember seeing her do this on TV when I was about 6 years old.

  • Beautiful lady! Beautiful song!

  • That song sure brings back good memories! I was was seven when it was released in 1956. What I would give to travel back to that time, even for a short while!

  • What a lady!

My favorite song, and nobody else does it better.

    Thank you so much!

  • This was the song I never forgot and have 'sung in the shower', and play on chromatic harmonica (gave that up for many years before coming back to it), because it evokes such emotions. I can't understand how anyone could want to hear any other version but Gogi's. Hers is the voice I hear in my head as I play the song (by ear). The video of her from 4 yrs ago blew me away! How many almost-80 yr old women still have their voices with such power, beauty, style and grace? Astonishing! I love her!

  • Bless her heart-I was born in 1950 and still find comfort in the music from that era, in fact as years go by i enjoy this stuff more and more-better than the Junk today. God Bless Gogi.

  • The Wayward Wind hit #1 on May 5, 1958 and stayed #1 for 8 weeks; then stayed on the Billboard Top 40 chart an amazing 22 weeks, a rare feat then and now! Its hard not visualize a story when you hear this song.

An outstanding arrangement with Ms. Grant's range and pitch, strings, French horns, choir and rhythm and you have a classic. And I had always wanted to see her perform this song. She is such a treasure. Thank you for posting this video. Gere

  • Incredible! She's still got it!

  • The video was cut too short, but did everybody jump to their feet at the end, and clap, and yell, and shout, and scream the house down for at least ten minutes? If not, they oughta be ashamed of themselves!

  • The voice and talent have survived undiminished.

  • She not only looks great, she sounds great too! Hats off to her.

  • Awesome

  • What a great bear! almost 80!

  • This the first time I've heard her sing "Wayward Wind" since I heard her original recording. It's beautiful to see how she still seems to care about the song, how the song has somehow grown with her. May she keep singing it for years to come.

  • What a lady, what a voice, what a song.

  • SO TRUE!!!!!!!!

  • A beautiful and class act all the way. Love her!

  • She is an AWESOME lady and still sounds GREAT, I saw her last year. She is amazing

  • I would have figured she was long dead.

Does anyone know why she disappeared from the scene long ago?

  • Gogi had not been around as much as she'd wished for her daughter while trying to break into music so, remarried, she had her son Josh & decided that at that point it was the late sixties and music as we loved it was dead anyway so she retired to raise her son.

Her last 2 albums 1 a featuring a god awful upbeat 60s arrangement of Wayward Wind but still full of fantastic sides on her part then the other The Way A Woman Feels show what all her peers went through Gogi singing Joplin? Rock sucks lol

  • What a class act!

  • She is still a live isn't she?

  • Best I could find out,she is still alive AND performing!

  • thanks

  • Hey ryan680923enter,she's alive and well

  • She does sound great. The orchestra isn't playing the accompaniment right -- they obviously don't "get it".

  • Well, the orchestra looks about her age, so...

  • she still sounds amazing!!! awesome. i love this song!

  • I happen to see her a year ago and she still looks and sounds GREAT!!!!!! She still hits those notes

  • fall 1956 hotel BEGO amsterdam girls, beer and rock n roll...

  • This song reminds me of a simplier time in my life when going was tough but everyone was happier. Wow- what a voice-one of my favourite all time songs-a classic.

  • God bless you man. Not enough on here. I have more on VHS but a spaz as to transfer tech. There's a new CD out of her rarest singles "No More Than Forever" Amazon has it.

Still sings in same key with NO wobble in her vibrato, can wail or whisper still at the top range w/ SOLID control unlike ANY singer from her heyday. Here 2 yrs ago & just blew audience's minds.

THX. I'm emailing her the link NOW.

  • Gogi Grant will kick your ass!

  • To this day in 2008, Gogi's performing still KICKS any singers ass.

She still performs if you ever get the chance see her.

I've often said to her that maybe if Judy Garland had never had a pill, drink or cigarette in her life, she'd still be around singing with all of HER faculties as Gogi does. Sadly only Gogi is the 1 vocal phenomenon who's voice is barely burnished a bit by time. All of her range & even more power now then 40 yrs ago.

She loves that you all write this stuff.

  • Have you seen her lately? I saw her last year and took my hat off to her. she STILL LOOKS and SOUNDS AWESOME

  • I haven't seen her in 2 or maybe 3 yrs when she'd been here in Florida for a performance.

She may not be doing the Palm Springs Follies this year so as she has family here I'm keeping my fingers crossed but she's well and very active.

  • I checked out the Follies website and she's not going to be there. :( Guess I need to go to Fl. if I want to see her. LOL I know my aunt would that. :)

  • I asked her and she said they generally rotate headliners so she doesn't do every season.

I can't imagine who else they'd want but my Gogi. Fools.

But she's lives in LA so you've a better chance of catching her out there if that's where you are.

  • They are fools not to have her every season. You must the president of her fan club if you asked her about it LOL

  • If you ask her she'd probably say Fan-atcic.

We've been friends since I met her in '89. I'd been in love with this phantom voice since I'd taken notice of it sometime around '74 watching the Helen Morgan Story.

When she made a comeback appearance in Boca Raton FL where I had a client who wrote for the Boca News there were articles about us & the things I did to find out anything I could about her including posing as an author to get into her RCA files when they had offices on 42nd st in NYC

  • Most of the "artists" today don't have the style that Gogi, Patti and Eydie have. Patti is AWESOME in concert!!!!!

  • Wow can't wait to share with friends...she is marvelous.....thank you.

  • Very cool, thank you, one of my all time favs!

  • This is awesome! My favorite song from the 50's. Thanks.

  • Thanks for this. I remember it well. And Tex Ritter's version. Both great.
