oh,so the voice coil needed to be bigger so it does not cook up as well as the cone needs to be bigger for the correct frequencies.

Well the driver could more than likely produce the low frequencies but due to being in a scoop bin the driver became unloaded effectively at the lower frequencies < 45hz so effectively became without back resistance i.e. excursion became excessive and the voicecoil to cone termination failed. If the driver had been mounted in an IB it would probably survived the lows as the voice coil was not cooked. Was the cone original as its mid point flexure failure appeard abnormal.

Hardly surprising the driver did not like trying to drive that frequency in that box, the driver is unloaded beneath the cur off of the box which the excursion is clearly telling you, you just have to realise this. So easiest way to blow your driver is drive it at those frequencies and power levels with the rear of the cone unloaded by the enclosure. V

Those speakers don't look as they are meant to be used at subwoofers to me. They look like back-loaded horns. Under a certain frequency, acoustic shortcircuit occurs, which results in heavy membrane movement, but no sound pressure. I'm guess they are to be run via a high pass filter and you need an extra subwoofer for low bass, otherwise they die.

I have built a backloaded horn bigger than a refrigerator and it's still not a real subwoofer. More like 60Hz and above. Sound is insane though.

change that SHITEEEEE 'tune', put some bassy reggae through the scoops till the cones flap, and blow/sell the other peavey driver as they suck.

whether that's a 15 or 18 inch driver, throw it away, don't recone that crap. metal dome bass drivers are only good for bass guitar/guitar such as the JBL one.

for scoops if you can get hold of PD186 or even better PD1850 they are built like tanks. Fane 15XB or 18XB are pretty damn good too.

Otherwise Beyma,B&C, EV, even Eminence is better than Peavey.
