I can remember sitting in the new "MINI" at the NEC Motor Show 1999, and the original style 1999 Rover version beside it, immediately loving the Rover version with its wide arches, deep dish alloys and wallnut dash. Such class and charecter it had. I was 6 years old and I fell inlove with that little car right there and then. Today, as excited and happy as i am, because i just bought my first car, a 1989 Mini :D :D It might not be a Morris, but atleast its one step closer than the BMW lunchbox!
Oh dear,a lively video about the classic mini has yet again been ruined by everyone slating the new mini, remember rover died beceause us English were not buying them! I love the old and new mini alike.with no british brands left,we should thank BMW for keeping the spirit alive
You know what the Government could of saved our car industry and that, but no! All our British brands are all getting sold off to different countries and it saddens to be think that us Brits have NOTHING left of ours. All because of our crap government cared more about the little petty things and not saving jobs and our companies.
atleast British heritage is making shells now so us people who care can keep them goin a bit more help would go along way though lol our mini is like a tool box on wheels just in case lmao
why the hell will people think the new mini is good? it is just bull sh*t. i wanted a mini since when i was a little kid. i love mini so much i wan to own them. BMW treated this like a joke. mini is meant for economy and not styling, over size. BL for life
The company fell on hard times HA HA HA. No the truth of the matter is all the people in power in the UK would rather spend our tax money on housing people who come to the UK cant speak a word of English who just sit on there arse all day wearing lether jackets while playing play stations. Never needing to work because they are not allowed to due to CRAP EU rules. If half the money they waste on immigration had of been used to help out ROVER the MINI would still be ENGLISH NOT BLOODY GERMAN.
It's despicable of you to call them Nazis just because they bought MINI. The narrator said MINI fell on hard times and I guess that's because of slow sales. How is that Germany's fault?
The new bmw version has no right to be called a mini cause its bigger, no character and most of all its a BMW (biggest money waster). you spend more servicing them than you get driving.
Everything that has been said it true, overpriced, not the same etc. But it is also a good car. If it was called something other than MINI it wouldn't be hated half as much and probably would have sold more.
Nothing will replace the original (I drive one myself) but the new car handles like a dream and pulls well even bog standard.
The new MINI is an pretentious, overpriced pastiche driven by image-obsessed knobheads. It will never have the shelf life of the original because it was designed with style over substance.
Rover had no part in the development of this car because they wanted to make the Spiritual concept which was as ground breaking and innovative as the original was back in the 1950s.
The mini as-was launched in 2001 was 100% designed by Rover, before BMW cut and run. BMW kept it as their own at the very last second as they realised it would make a mint - and it has. It is not a German car, albeit it now uses many european and german parts in its current incarnation.
Sad times, the new MINI is a over-rated heap of rubbish, it is nothing like the old one, it is too big and too expensive, going against what the original was.
@kazimann i can remember when i had an open mind about the new mini back in 1999. At the 40th celebration at silverstone there was a publicity tent bmw had rigged up with some sort of show promoting their 'version' it was basically all smoke and mirrors. I came out very dissapointed. I think bmw where aware even then that there would be a massive backlash of mini people towards an item that was nothing to do with the real thing and made by germans.
The original mini was the best and always will be the modern one is to big and to expensive. The original was designed to be small fun and affordable. As for bmw they drove rover into the ground the company was doing well upto they took over and i dont consider the new mini to be british as its a bmw and not an austin morris or rover . Anyone remember bmw saying a 100bhp was the most front wheel drive cars can handle safely funny how they have bmw minis with way over that.
why? what a dumb comment! thanx to BMW, the old skool Mini is as popular as ever, and to be honest, increasing in popularity! No I do not drive a BMW MINI, I have 3 old skool Minis and their value is going up and up. This would not be happening if the name Mini was not still current.
how comes there is an 02 (2002) old mini for sale on ebay ? :/

Interesting video
The MINI was also built in Australia.
We had our own versions too.
The "Mini K" had the 1098cc motor and the seats from the Wolseley Hornet.
The later Leyland Mini Clubman had a restyled, squared-off front end.
The Mini popularized the idea of the small front wheel drive car with a transverse mounted engine.
All the major manufacturers now build a car along these lines!

I would hardly say the new mini is "German" what with being British designed and British built and all that...
Maybe I just don't understand this "motor industry" business :)

doesnt matter where its built, its German owned and all the money made goes straight to BMW.

"it sold the brand to the German company". Do your research, BMW bought Rover in 1994 and then nicked the MINI after Rover developed it!!!
