  • Loved the Pennsylvania RR colours on the carriages.

@Nigel16032009 - each car has double-flanged wheels on one side, and non-flanged wheels on the other, so that each car takes only one side of the passing loop each time.

  • There is an almost identical tram in Scarborough England, it was built in the Victorian area. As far as I know it is still working.

  • @trespire i was on it yesterday so yeah it does :)

  • Это просто фуникулёр. Что такого?

  • That is the shortest passing siding I have ever seen.

  • I use to live in Altoona as a kid.. been up this hill hundreds of times. There use to only be steps. I cant remember the exact number but we counted them each and every time.

  • Like in Kyiv ))) Where is it?

  • Wow! Just like in FFIX!

  • where is this

  • @Buddycash96 Altoona Pa.

  • @Buddycash96 It is in Altoona Pennsylvania

  • ;-) Nice video. But. Next time U go there Have a squiz UNDERNEATH As the car U rode UP on Had BOTH of it's RH wheels double flanged AND had NO flanges on the LH side wheels Thus the SWITH BLADES did NOT ever need changing (permanently SPLIT open) & The cableways through the frog_rails also WERE allowed to fishtail in & out (similar as Torpedo rails do -- on a bridge) PLUS The car U rode UP on It will ALWAYS take the RH loop irrespective of whether it goes UP or DOWN the incline
  • Łożesz kurwa!!! na Gubałówkę wjeżdża i mija się szybciej, i jakoś nikt tego na YT nie wrzuca

  • How on earth does this work? I thought it was about to derail a the first point!!!

  • @Nigel16032009 probably follows the pull of the tow cable

  • @Nigel16032009

The cable system is attached to both cars... like a cable car system. That way whichever car is coming down acts as a counterbalance so there doesn't need to be as much force necessary by the motor. And since they're always connected via cable, the pass at the identical point each time.

  • scary if it fell back it would be like watching porta potty go down a hill.

  • You know, I read in a book that inclined railroads like this one were the forerunners of modern-day roller-coasters...

  • What is HORSESHE and why is it one word? Love the video, neat how they pass each other.

  • @muley180 He means Horseshoe. The name of the place is called Horseshoe Curve. Due to its Horseshoe shape like tracks

  • Incase anyone wonders, Only the outside wheels of the cars are flanged. IIRC, they're double flanged so they fit over the rail with one on both sides.

  • HORSESHE is 1 word.

    Love HSC, itz da bomb!

  • I was there in 2005 or 2006, I cant remember, but it was really neat. And this lady freaked out on the ride up, so it was cool.

  • damn this other cab is so angled :PP

  • That's real neat! I like the reference that the incline railroad makes to the Pennsylvania RR by painting the cars dark red with gold pinstripes!

  • I think that's the best improvement they've made at the Curve since my first visit back in 1985. It's great not having to climb up all of the steps. Granted, going down the steps is not so bad.
