Amazingly, our Grandmaster Miyagi of Gojuryu did travelled to Fujian Shaolin Temple to study Shaolin and learned the techniques of Chinese Boxing (Pa Kua). Thus, Gojuryu Karate-Do today has the same type of wooden dummy for training, as the one Wing Chun student uses. It's not a misconception at all. Indeed Northerners use palms and fists, but it's the legs that's used to attack, and for Southerners, they mainly strike with palms and fists, using legs only as distraction. If you prefer being 'open minded' instead of following traditional kung fu styles then you're doing what's called Mixed Martial Arts where you combined elements of both Southern and Northern styles kung fu.

@fuzzybeastie OH YEA... forgot to mention that northerners use wide stances when they use tiger style. And they do use tiger style. Southerners usually use cat stances and a less wider stance. Northern fighters also utilize distance like our video friend here did. but i dont know jack huh? LOL. Northerners can use tiger style but it's origin is a Southern style kung fu. By your logic if several Mexicans use Karate does that make Karate a Mexican martial art? No. Regardless of who practices tiger style it remains a Southern style kung fu.
