@controlusplease And javelin rockets cost $60,000. The problem is, their warheads are terrible at killing infantry Negligible blast and fragmentation, all the energy goes into punching a little hole in the wall.

Ok, the Russian army has in the past tested its T-90 tanks, while on protection trials, the T-90 was exposed to a number of modern anti-tank missiles, notably the Kornet ATGM, which has a vastly superior RHA penetration to that of the Javelin, in conclusion, thanks to the K5 armour, the T-90 was able to withstand multiple hits from the Kornet, without being penetrated, given the fact that the Javelin has inferior penetration, I have a good reason to believe it would not penetrate.
No, not Russian tanks... but the last time NATO tried on real Russian tanks, it did not work out well XD, but ofcoarse you are too ignorant to know -_-' ...
"No, Russian K5 armour is immune to the Javelin." Prove it. T-72B's have K5 armor. 2 were recovered in Iraq & killed in tests using Javelins. You can google that one up yourself.
The launcher is reuseable, and the missile costs $80k to kill an T90 (1.3 million per tank) and the crew of 3 (training costs over 1 million apiece). So 80k to destroy over $4 million of assets (ignoring the costs of ammunition & the loss of an offensive asset that cannot be quickly replaced). Not to mention saving the soldiers being threatened by the tank (training cost of over $1 million apiece).

not only that but it can shoot tanks and such without having to have a straight shot, making it an invaluable tool when there are hostages, or if it is a city area.
Admittedly pricey yet still less than even a cold war era tank costs yet you can airdrop these behind enemy lines unlike another anti-tank weapon like the M1 Abrams.
For it's mission profile it is not prohibitively expensive though it would be a waste using this thing on foxholes and reinforced positions. Best to use up the old stock of TOW missiles that may even be more suitable against a stationary target with little heat signature.
guy at 0:19 wasnt even equipped with ear plugs and was using his fingers. YOu gotta use special ear protection in this bussiness or else bye bye hearing.
I'd argue that the "premier" anti tank system used by US troops is the AT4 for the simple reason that it's used far more often and more troops carry it.
it is 49.5 pounds with each battery weighing 2.25 pounds, with each team carrying approx. 10 batteries, that equals 22.5 pounds of battery weight. 49.5 + 22.5 =72 pounds just for this system. Then include your 90 pounds of other equipment, 8 or 9 pounds for your rifle. 72 + 90 + 8 =170 pounds. If the person carrying the javelin doesnt have to carry any batteries he would still be strolling around with 150 pounds. I wouldn't be surprised if I underestimated and it was close to the 200 poundmark.
Not quite. It uses the SAME batteries as the prc-113 radio, so the batteries are carried ANYWAYS. The rechargeable training batteries weigh 2 lbs. The disposable batt's are 1/2 the weight or lighter.
Combat load with ammo, pack and rifle is only around 120 lbs. when patrolling, packs are not worn. Most the gear is stowed in vehicles anyways. BTW it's 2 batteries per missile, not ten total, depends on the rounds carried. You forgot about the spare nitrogen packs also,,,
the reason it peirces any metal is it attacks the weak point (the top) and genarally is a surprise hence it can be fired OVER mountains.. and how it peirces the metal is when it hits it sets off a first (weak) charge + the force of how fast it was traveling (in Newtons) and after the first charge is off the second charge blows the target to hell.. thats why you dont fuck with the U.S.A.
Whats with all the hate later in these comments. Damn, I'm from America. I like people no matter where they're from... till they give me a reason to not like them. Were all fucking human so get over it. The f-22 rules, the javelin kicks ass, and most people are full of shit. (Why do u think we created toilets?) And why are you fighting over a war that happened over 200 years ago. Get over it. America is free. If you guys are still sore about that, then come and take our freedom. I'll be waiting.
Ok MadandSick, you are special in the head. The United States may have been founed by Briton, but when it rebelled, nearly 40% of its Population was German, 30% French, and another 30% English. When they actually DECIDED what the National Language was to be, it was a tie, but instead of having the Turkey as the National Bird, we have the Eagle(German Speaking Choice), and English(English Choice). It was all a comprise. Also the F-22 is Faster, Larger, and able to carry more than the Eurofighter.
The US F-22 is only 20million USD more expensive then the NON stealth eurofighter. The F22 can fly above mach 2 while the Eurofighter can fly speeds of only mach 2 at altitude. at cruise speeds the F22 is faster by .5 mach. the F22 also has a bigger max takeoff weight and can carry MORE arms then the Eurofighter. but lacks the ability to carry 2 different gravity bombs that the eurofigter can carry. when I stack them up I really prefer the F22 due to it's speed and more munitions
Hellfire is longer ranged, with a bigger warhead, because it is designed to be carried by an AH-64, and isn't as restricted by weight and size considerations. Hellfire is also a laser guided missle, not as "smart" as Javelin in some situations, but the designator can be carried by the launch platform, and used repeatedly.
to neilhatesyou british air force did mock war with USAF and 1 eurofighter took out 2 F-22's and its that good yanks want 2 buy them but the EU (european union) wont allow it cos its for europe only and plus the eurofighter can cary more missiles/bombs than f-22 cos f-22 can only cary 4 missiles and it more manoverable than f-22 but the F-22 RAPTOR is still cool tho but it costs twice as much than euro fighter and if u dont believe me look it up on google
Who cares who made it? its a good job america have got it, as it makes the war iraq slightly easier dont you think? The SAS and US Marines dont even need this weapon i think, as we are both skilled forces.
Ah crap, Americans and war...

this gun isnt only used for armored tanks. it has been used to take out sniper squads by the u.s military
aka. the best fighting force in the planet
thanksmanny 2 years ago
@thanksmanny sniper forces? where did you learn that?
this missile costs $80,000! why would you waste them like that?
you should instead use predator drones to scout the area, find the exact location, and take them out with our infantry or our own snipers.
wasting $80,000 to kill infantry will just destroy our economy.
and this isnt a gun. this is an anti-tank missile.
also, the marines trademarked "the best fighting force".

Liar.

prolly meaning it could withstand but doesn't completely destroyed another shot???? i don't know

so 1 javelin missile launcher + i missile = £200,000 paahahahahahhahahahaah
ardboykillerfish 2 years ago
The launcher is reuseable, and the missile costs $80k to kill an T90 (1.3 million per tank) and the crew of 3 (training costs over 1 million apiece). So 80k to destroy over $4 million of assets (ignoring the costs of ammunition & the loss of an offensive asset that cannot be quickly replaced). Not to mention saving the soldiers being threatened by the tank (training cost of over $1 million apiece).
Sounds like good math to me.

not only that but it can shoot tanks and such without having to have a straight shot, making it an invaluable tool when there are hostages, or if it is a city area.

1 javelin missile costs $80,000 , i cant imagine how much a launcher costs
ardboykillerfish 2 years ago
Admittedly pricey yet still less than even a cold war era tank costs yet you can airdrop these behind enemy lines unlike another anti-tank weapon like the M1 Abrams.
For it's mission profile it is not prohibitively expensive though it would be a waste using this thing on foxholes and reinforced positions. Best to use up the old stock of TOW missiles that may even be more suitable against a stationary target with little heat signature.
Treblaine 2 years ago
the 80k missle is in it's own tube, with seeker head, and battery/ coolant back.
The launch unit is 120k.

guy at 0:19 wasnt even equipped with ear plugs and was using his fingers. YOu gotta use special ear protection in this bussiness or else bye bye hearing.
fayik123 3 years ago
You dont need ear protection to fire the Javelin, its not very loud
Ready2Rumble4686 2 years ago
I'd argue that the "premier" anti tank system used by US troops is the AT4 for the simple reason that it's used far more often and more troops carry it.

the javalin is partly made of foam, it is so light i held one
joemama98555 3 years ago
it is 49.5 pounds with each battery weighing 2.25 pounds, with each team carrying approx. I wouldn't be surprised if I underestimated and it was close to the 200 poundmark.
ordthejoker 3 years ago 2
You forgot about the spare nitrogen packs also,,,

a tank costs 3 million a modern tank such as a leopard tank, a javelin missile costing 75 thousand is quite insane

the reason it peirces any metal is it attacks the weak point (the top) and genarally is a surprise hence it can be fired OVER mountains.. and how it peirces the metal is when it hits it sets off a first (weak) charge + the force of how fast it was traveling (in Newtons) and after the first charge is off the second charge blows the target to hell.. thats why you dont fuck with the U.S.A.

They split the load. Someone carries the launcher and someone else carries the missile, so it's not quite as bad for one person then.
TalesOfWar 3 years ago
Ok MadandSick, you are special in the head. The United States may have been founed by Briton, but when it rebelled, nearly 40% of its Population was German, 30% French, and another 30% English. When they actually DECIDED what the National Language was to be, it was a tie, but instead of having the Turkey as the National Bird, we have the Eagle(German Speaking Choice), and English(English Choice). It was all a comprise. Also the F-22 is Faster, Larger, and able to carry more than the Eurofighter.

To leg363:
The US F-22 is only 20million USD more expensive then the NON stealth eurofighter. The F22 can fly above mach 2 while the Eurofighter can fly speeds of only mach 2 at altitude. at cruise speeds the F22 is faster by .5 mach. the F22 also has a bigger max takeoff weight and can carry MORE arms then the Eurofighter. but lacks the ability to carry 2 different gravity bombs that the eurofigter can carry. when I stack them up I really prefer the F22 due to it's speed and more munitions

Nice missile, they had those things on-site when they cornered Saddam's brats.

Why they dont put it on Apaches or Predators ??
ww2footage 4 years ago
Hellfire is longer ranged, with a bigger warhead, because it is designed to be carried by an AH-64, and isn't as restricted by weight and size considerations. Hellfire is also a laser guided missle, not as "smart" as Javelin in some situations, but the designator can be carried by the launch platform, and used repeatedly.
jrmprs 4 years ago
The thing also shoots up in the air. Why whould you need that if you are all ready above your target?
1cjasp1 4 years ago
to neilhatesyou british air force did mock war with USAF and 1 eurofighter took out 2 F-22's and its that good yanks want 2 buy them but the EU (european union) wont allow it cos its for europe only and plus the eurofighter can cary more missiles/bombs than f-22 cos f-22 can only cary 4 missiles and it more manoverable than f-22 but the F-22 RAPTOR is still cool tho but it costs twice as much than euro fighter and if u dont believe me look it up on google
