I've been a "phan" since I was a little girl, and have heard the overture countless times, and yet it never fails to give me chills and bring tears to my eyes!
A must see show orchestra seating buy event!!! It's intense and when those explosions & the crash of the chandler hits the stage it's truly amazing & jaw dropping
No words could ever describe this overture/opening. Every time I see Phantom either through these videos and even my memories of seeing this musical so many times, it's beautiful. This opening always gets to me and makes me want to cry of how beautiful and amazing it is. Truly, Phantom of the Opera is the best musical ever made!!! Forever #1 in my heart!
@simolionshane YES! I've seen many Phantoms and i always know the boom is coming.... and i always jump and scream when it goes off. it's an amazing feeling when u feel the shock wave from that boom w/ the music... and i usually sit up in the balcony. i can't imagine the shock wave sitting front row. jeezzz
@musicalsgal2007 Yes it most definatelly bugs me, because this show is amazing, and being a set designer my self, oooh! It takes skill to build a chandalier like that. And trust me, when you see it live and not in a pixelated video it is something else!
@musicalsgal2007 Please try to express your opinion less rudely instead of saying its crap, because it's not. You go and sit at Her Majestys Theatre, London and see it for yourself.
This is my favorite part! ^_^ I saw this yesterday and as soon as the overture began I started to get teary eyed! It was amazing!! =**) I look forward to seeing it again in the future!! ^_^
@musicalsgal2007 What pieces are you talking about? The chandelier is near identical to the broadway version, with some cosmetic adjustments so it can travel.
not sure if anyone else sees this, but after seeing the us tour in comparison to broadway, i noticed something... in new york, the chandelier goes up and out into the audience like always... HOWEVER... when i saw the us tour, it kidna teases and goes out into the audience a bit before completely ascending... does anyone else see that? OH! and it actually starting goin up when the poto melody starts as opposed to on broadway. thoughts? by far my favorite show of all time :)
@itsbigvic21 When I saw this show a few years ago, my mother and I had awesome seats we were real close to the stage and I could see the chandelier really close along with the actors! I still love this show and hopefully this coming summer I might go see it in New York...possiblly
I just saw the show sunday at the Pantages in Hollywood. That overture was probably one of the best parts of the whole show. And when you're sitting in the fourth row, it's 100x better :)
@MuppetManaic Your Gunna love it!..i first saw the film when my mum hired it out on DVD, she begged me to watch it..i didnt want to...and at the end of the film i was crying and i demanded that we see it on stage!..ive now seen 5 times on stage, and im totaly blown away everytime! Your Gunna love it! It so Phantastic
It is a real shame that the Phantom of the Opera touring production will be permanently ending in November 2010. Luckily, My family and I will be seeing it when it comes to Atlanta. Saw it is New York, London, soon Atlanta, and maybe Cleveland or Pittsburgh. Now my goal is to see it in Las Vegas.
It's not Las Vegas, that's for sure. The Vegas chandelier is in four pieces that start at various spots of the auditorium, and they move themselves through the air on huge cable, eventually coming together to form the actual chandelier. It's the most elaborate and largest chandelier, though I think it's really the silliest and very tacky.
Anyway, this is multiple shows so it could be anywhere, but it sounds American, so it's likely the tour and Broadway.
@TheStrangerDied This is the same performance. A group of people got together to strategically film Gary Mauer and Elizabeth Southard's last performance from different angles on the US National Tour in Spring 2006 in Texas, USA.
@TheStrangerDied Oh, it's okay! It's something that I've heard of happening only one other time (the musical Grey Gardens when it was Off-Broadway). There are other clips from this Phantom performance circulating...it's really neat.
I've seen it in Toronto 3 times and each time it was amazing--although when I saw it in 1993, it was the best...the overture was REALLY loud. I hear the Vegas version is good, and I like how they designed the theatre to look like the Paris Opera House, the only thing is that it's a little too much like the movie which I was disappointed in, but overall I'd love to see it there.
The Toronto production had the best pyros. While the other productions have the flame burst, the huge 3 or 4 second fire wall was intense. Blinding from the 2nd row in the Pantages.
I saw it in vegas...front row...didnt know about the fire at the end of Bravo monsier...and there it doesnt go up after he says "Let it be war upon you both!" it goes up right after he says "Now!"
i didn't think the chandelier would rise out into the theatre maybe just straight up becaus eiwould thin not evry thatre would have space to wire it in the ceiling.
the chandelier rises on the tour that awesome. im going to see it again when it comes to milwaukee. is the tour very different than broadway? do they use the staircases in the stage for the journey to the lair? do the candlelabras come out of the stage?
If its anything like the UK tour of 8/9 years ago, there will be a false floor to the stage (about 4 inches off the deck), and the candleabras will fold out of that. The effect from the audience is entirely the same as though they just moved vertically.
Wow, amazing! I saw it at the Princess theatre in Melbourne a couple of months ago, and LOVED it. Lol, when the chandelier went bang, i jumped about 20 feet and nearly cpapped myself! lol
Haha I remmber when I first saw Phantom and the boom made me jump like 10 feet. But Overature was awesome because I was front row mez :) Good times...
To quote the Phantom, "Bravi, bravi, bravi si mi" This is the BEST overture rendition in video! Someone that KNOWS what the action is, and just how to follow it!!
Dallas is where I remember learning about where it was. It couldn't have been London because it was the US touring cast, nor could it have been NY because they all ready have the show there.
Didn't really care for the impact. Should have been stronger. The explosion was a cool idea, but I think the first note should have been much, much louder.
This is so cool! The night i saw it with Gary and Beth they had to restart the show because during the overature the chandelier got stuck and was just hovering a few feet above the stage.
Did the show still end on time? They never had that problem when I went to see it last year! I loved Gary Mauer as the Phantom I was completely wowed by his performance! I was a little upset because I want to see Beth Southard instead of Marie Danvers! She sucked as Christine! Beth would've been the right one for me to fall in love with by the beautiful voice!
none of the chandeliers in any of the productions of phantom (except las vegas) go right to the top of the auditorium. They go just to the top of the stage and then thats it.
hey and thanks for the vid if you recored this wich i bet you did'nt. who ever recored this was so smart by edtitng them with one person in the mez and the other on the floor the only thing i can say is wow they are so good! and iv'e seen it 3 times and this is the best so far!
