I AGREE THIS WAS A PLANNED THING! NOT ONLY ONE MIC BUT 2 HAS ISSUES!!! THEY REALLY HATED ON HER. I think she knew this going in, also this is the time when they said Ms Pattie was too "soulful", which is why she didn't even attempt New Attitude!

Something tells me this wasn't a technical 'fault' and more preplanned. Two reasons tell me this, the microphone wasn't working at the start. Probably a fault so they get another microphone, we hear her starting to sing into it so the microphone seems to be working but then it's quickly turned down. This happens again after the song ends and she apologizes to the audience, but once she starts singing; the microphone is turned down again. I guess somebody in control didn't like her voice eh?

@ALEXSLINGSBY Or someone fixed the one she was using...but it was too late because the guy ran on that gave her another one...so they had to switch over to the new one ? And no ones ever gona stop Patti!

@ALEXSLINGSBY its quite obvious if you watch it closely that they actually fix the mic in Pattis hand as she hands it off for the new one which isn't working, you can then hear someone testing the mic that has been taken off the stage which is then returned to her at the start of somewhere over the rainbow, you can see at the end of the forever young video also where the base of the wireless mic is detatched, this was the first event of its kind it was bound to have glitches.

2 questions. Am I the only one that actually enjoyed the technical difficulty because we got to hear how tight the band was? Also, was there ever a background singing trio with harmonies as beautiful as Philly session legends The Sweethearts Of Sigma who are on backup vocals here? And then when Patti starts to rip into Over The Rainbow and hits that note...whew! This clip is too much.

yea, I dug it...and as only a pro like her would do, she didnt freak out & hide behind a bass player or amplifier a la Ashley Simpson, etc.. In my life song book me and this chick go wayyyyy back. A legend in her own time, you look around and u can count on one hand the singers from the chitlin circuit days who have stuck around & gotten better/bigger. I thought this performance was her best ever because of the weight of the event & crowd size. She was visible one a "world stage" and killed it.

YES! I love how her band stopped the song without missing a beat and Patti patiently waited until the tech difficulty was over. Then she let loose (with only a piano backing her) as only she can just in case the audience got some idea that wasn't the real deal. LOL. Amazing! These so called "singers" today aren't fit to carry her wig case!
