There are some (the majority, I think) who like him because he is "hot". And, yes, I know Erik's not supposed to be hot but that's Joel Schumacher's fault, not Gerard Butler's. I like his voice, myself, and on top of that I hate Michael Crawford, but over them both, give me Howard McGillin any day!

I disagree that the majority of people like him because he's "hot". Most people I now like him because of his acting talent and his voice. I think it is just that the ones who do like him because of he's hot are the most vocal.

Although a hot Phantom isn't a new thing. Hal Prince wanted the masked Phantom to be as handsome as Dorian Grey (a character noted for his attractiveness). So an attractive guy certainly isn't anything new.

I watched the Kennedy Honors last night and the Josh Groban did a great job, but I prefer this version of "Music of the Night." The note at the 2:48 mark is incredible! that makes the performance for me.
