The right side is definitely the other exhaust (where heat comes out); never point the fan in on the right side because you'll have two fans blowing at each other, most likely resulting in heat being trapped inside the system.
UPDATE: 12/24/10, PS3 has succumb to YLOD for the second time. This fan, placed in the rear of the PS3, did not seem to help. I'm going to reflow my PS3 again and get another one of these fans for a push/pull setup and see how long that lasts. If it fails again, I'll probably end up getting a new PS3. So sad.
@manifest57 Will do, so far so good! I still have it pulling hot air from the back as I can feel the most hot air in that area. There's quite a bit of heat on the side intake, but it's kind of scattered and I'm not sure how much the fan would be moving it efficiently. Maybe I'll saddle up another $10 for an additional fan for push/pull setup.
I moded the inside with a better fan but if you dont mind tell me how well this works for you. I got another ps3 and this seems like a good idea for that one.
hey I got the slim it really doesnt heat up at all and its really to be honest worth the money to get. so if u get a new one. get the slim. also try this website totalconsole . com go to ps3 and MOD- Various read the Detailed Description and if you can blow 30$ and put it in that ps3 will be perfect for you.
Put it on max and turn up your volume and problem solved bro!

My PS3 has started ramping up the fan speed, going to buy the 120mm version of this fan, see how that goes.
