  • Hey man, greetings from New Jersey, USA. Great collection of Laserdiscs you got there, take it from a collector who has just over 1,000 of them. Keep rockin' and rollin'...

  • @unclejay1973 thx

  • MEGADEEEEEEEEEEEEEETH.

    Just sayin'.

I really like the inner artwork for City of the Living Dead, I'm not really into the slasher/zombie horror films (I prefer stuff like The Shining, Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte, etc) but still, nice collection!

  • btw...weren't Laserdiscs rediculously expensive? I remember Jurassic Park costed somewhere around $100....

  • @Conduit13C it depended on the particular release, I know in the UK most basic laserdiscs were something like £25-£30 and that's 80s/early 90s money.

  • @DarkAngel182

How much would the howling fetch on laserdisc if you sold it?

Does it have all extra features such as documentary, deleted scenes and other extras that are available on the momentum dvd release?

I bought the special edition dvd recently from a film/c.d fair.

Have you read the howling books by any chance? With the exception of the first film, they are much better than those awful sequels that followed.

  • @71yid not sure about how much they'd fetch, probably not a lot considering most horror fans collect DVD these days. The LD has most of the same extras as the UK DVD, but the LD has a couple that arent on the DVD, such as an isolated music score.

Haven't read the sequel books to comment I'm afraid, though I'm aware they have no relation to the films.

  • funny how they keep releasing the same thing all the time....round discs that get smaller and more expensive with each release. And people are suckered into it. lol. Laserdisc, CD, DVD, now Blu-Ray (Joke).

  • Laserdisc is still the only way to get the Unrated Nightmare on Elm Street sequels

  • I love that re-animator LD. So much better artwork since the canvas is so large.

  • I want your t-shirt so badly. I have like every Megadteh shirt but that one T_T

  • i'm 17 and building up my own laserdisc collection. got about 30 right now. my dad managed to steal a great laserdisc player from the school where he works. they bought it at the tail end of LD tech. Auto flip and dvd player in it, too. region free. they just had it sitting on a shelf in a closet for nearly a decade.

  • LaserDisc came out in the late 70's

  • Dark, where did you get that awesome Friday the 13th poster behind you? i have never seen one like that for the first film.

  • @thEannoyingE

Ebay, it's a reproduction of the old UK Quad poster.

  • you have a lot of laser disc congratulations, english boy..

    you rock..

  • Thx!

  • there wearth haveing just for the art work

  • Cat In The Brain released in US DVD August 2009

  • You have no idea how jealous I am over your Fulci laserdisc collection

  • What a classic laser disc history

  • Nice shirt! Megadeth \m/

and nice collection of horror laserdiscs

  • i was born in the nineties, so forgive my naivety, were they about the same size as a vinyl? and what did you play them on? was there a laserdisc player?

  • LOL, yes laserdiscs where about the same size as a 12" vinyl LP. Think of them as 12" DVDs, and yes you played them in a laserdisc player, which again was like an oivesized DVD player.

Have a look round youtube I'm sure some people have posted videos of them playing laserdiscs in their players.

  • cool collection dude.

  • We Americans like your accent. In particular, your accent and diction when you say "DVD" are quite something.

  • LOL, thanks for the compliment!

  • not all english people talk like that!!!!!!!!!

  • Dude you rock. Like the megadeth shirt. And your taste on horror movies.

  • Off to see Megadeth again in Feb, they're touring with Testament and Judas Priest.

  • Sweet sounds awesome. Im a huge megadeth fan i own every cd including the boxset. Sadly i have never seen them live. Maybe someday i hope.

  • i agree there is something intriguing about the Laserdisc technology , and you can't beat the packaging . There are some features / extras that are still LD exclusive , that is another reason to invest in a player and to seek out some of these gems . I also enjoy the videodisc format , but that's mainly for kitsch value .

    Excellent collection . JV

  • Whaw, what a great collection! Although DVD can be great it has not the stunning art work of the LD's at all its great glory! BTW How do they write "WOODOO" with a "W"? Strange people in Germany! LOL

  • Jesus, those things are huge!

  • Can I spin those things on record player?! ;-)

  • Re-Animator kicks ass!

  • It's nice to see that people still appreciate the collectability of Laserdisks. They really come in handy especially when they laserdisk movie hasn't been released on DVD (as was the case for "From Beyond" for a couple of decades). Do you still have a working laserdisk player? Or do you not really watch them, instead have them for the sake of having them?

  • I do have a laserdisc player yes, though it is becoming a little temperamental at the mo.

  • when i was young i remember us having laser disc. i watched terry gilliams time bandits.

  • i hate you.....jk

  • How much is a laserdisc player now?

  • not sure, checkout ebay

  • Depends what player you go for. If you want a top notch player, get a Pioneer player. They are costly, but extremely worth it.

  • You forgot to mention about Video CD

  • I only have 2 video CDs in my entire collection though!

  • Nice laserdisc collection.

  • I'm 22 & i know what laserdisc is, my mates have no idea what laserdisc is.

That poster in the back , i have on my wall above my shelf my laserdiscs rest on it. lol.

Also have you stolen my laserdisc collection you have every single one i've got.... lol, i've also got the original escape from new york version, lovely art work, its 25 years old now!!!!!! So's my the thing copy, they still play wonderfully!

  • Where can I buy laser discs and a laser disc player?

  • Try Ebay

  • I've just bought one! LOL!

  • Nice one!

  • Thanks mate it was pretty cheep as well $61:97 which is only about £31 in real money but the shipping from the US more than doubles that price.

  • Is this an american laserdisc player?

If so(assuming you live in the UK) does it play PAL (UK TV format) discs as well as NTSC (US TV format)discs?. Do you have a 110volt power source you can run it off?

If not you're going to have problems.

  • It's cool man I checked out all that stuff before purchasing, it is a multi-regional player and I have a 110 volt power convertor(my friends an electrician and he built it for me).

  • BTW where did you get all those plastic record sleeve protectors please?

  • ebay search for "Record Sleeves"

  • Thanks mate.

  • I was young when LD first came out. I never owned one because they were so expensive but now I am actually "getting back" into the format

  • cool films

  • It's me again if your interested in zombie film's then checkout the japanease horror film called "junk" =)

  • Oh yes, good film. Elements of Re-Animator, Zombi 3, Zombie Flesh Eaters and even Reservoir Dogs.

  • I soooooo want that NOES special collectors edition LD! But I can only find it on one site online for $100.00, a little steep.

  • cool I will be posting my LD's soon!

  • PM me when you do!

  • Superb collection DarkAngel182. You've highlighted perfectly the downside to DVD is that you don't get the great full-size artwork that went with laserdisc. And now blu-ray and HD DVD is going into even smaller cases.

  • wow man cool shit!

  • blimey! i didnt even kno they extisted

    happy new year mate!

  • Wow, so glad to see someone posting their laserdisc collection. I have about 150. I think it wasn't until around 2002 when they stopped making laserdiscs. Correct me if i am wrong. Great post. Gonna check out Realm of Horror too. Love horror films.

  • Thanks for the post, I believe laserdisc production ceased in 1999 everywhere in the world except Japan, where it ceased in 2000.

  • WOW! That NOES cover is so cool! I would love to have that as a wall hanger.. But i guess I'll just have to settle with my 'Freddy's Greatest Hits' record.

  • Wait a minute...your website is Realm of Horror?

Woah, I visit that site constantly. I've read nearly all the reviews, but I never knew it was yours. Crazy.

But yeah, upload part 2 soon, please. I love LaserDiscs. Even though I only own a few.

  • Yup, realmofhorrorDOTcoDOTuk, that's me alright!

    Parts 2 & 3 are online now!
