This was all over a US free trade agreement which the US wanted so mining companies could rape the land. The Indians fought back and the Peruvian government repealed 2 of the laws. FUCK THE US.
@PTTurboe I can understand the agression, frustrations n emotions.
but its better not to generalise n put a hole country in a pot. As so often big companies from the west, banks, financial sector are responsible n also the ignorant respectless goverment.
Somebody asked for a translation of what the woman at the beginning was saying: "In the...aghhh!...near his head, hey! aggghhhh! aghhh! I'm European ..... go go! the bullets! agh!" I assume it is Marijke Deleu who we see in the interview.
never let them to destroy your land and the nature, for all of us human will benefit on it.. there is a part in the Philippines they let the forest to destroy for the log, what happen is when the typhoon came thousand of people was killed, because of landslide and a huge flood.
What this post doesn't tell you is that of the "more than 30 dead", at least 22 of them are policemen. Their weapons were taken by the indigenous people and some police bodies are still missing.
When making these posts, please present the whole story.
As you say, more policemen than civilians were killed. Current official statistics say 24 policemen and 10 civilians were killed, and the body of one policeman is still missing. Rumors of more casualties and other missing persons exist but haven't been confirmed.
Survival has publicly condemned the violence on both sides at Bagua which led to so many tragic and unnecessary deaths.
REALLY - at the bottom of all this is not a simple body count. It is the FACT that there has been a systematic genocide of indigenous people in the Amazon for decades - they have been ignored. The moment an uprising takes place, they are quickly labeled as delinquents. It's really atrocious. What would you do if your family has been annihilated by the govt.and now a man is shooting at you and your already devastated community? I would grab weapons and defend my life as well.
@ianleighdc What a stupidity... And have you counted how many native americans have been killed throughout history?? I don't think no one ever care about it, and now you come with a police headcount, which is nothing compared with the amount of people who is affected by the negligence of the government. It's GENOCIDE, if your ignorance don't know that word.
how could a group of natives kill 22 policemen armed with teargas, rifles and armourd vehicles with only sticks and spears surely the police would have been able to at least defend themselves, or does the video not just choose not to show the pics of natives with guns?
I cannot believe such huge indian bloodspilling could occur in our 'civilised modern socities'. It is horrible and racist. Survival international are amazing for the work they have done thus far.
@boomboomboop We are still struggling with discrimination, just like back in the Colony. It is the way of mind heritage still in our societies who believe being native american is the worst thing you can be, cause you're the zero, you're ignorant, you're nobody in this land. And it's not possible that this is still happening in the 21st century, with a supposedly globalized world, in a continent where all rights are equal for everybody, a fake "democracy". Hipocrisy is in the agenda.

Why are these white people so mad at indians? It's their land, for God's sake!!!
They have the right to it and it's not like they're asking for a lot, since all of their territory is already taken.........
