@blumaxx1 The property taxes out here are super low compared to more affluent parts of the country. They are a way to pay for fire departments and schools etc. They are very reasonable out here and I don't mind paying them at all. They are not a form or debt, but a contribution to making things run more smoothly in the place I live.
I love to talk specifics - I got land for $1300/ acre in 92. No bank. I worked on a fishing boat, twice, out of Dutch Harbor, Alaska, and in 5 months saved half of the cost of land before I went looking for land. My dad lent me the difference. I worked as a carpenter in Cali for 2 years and was able to pay him back within a year and a half. I was frugal to the extreme, I only had a motorcycle, no car, saved 75% of what I made. I was on a mission to be free. The pyramid cost $20,500 to build.
buying a piece of ground doesn't equate to financing through a bank. There is plenty of ground out there cheap enough to buy outright. The mindset that you have to have a bank involved in the purchase of land, home, or even a vehicle is what the banks want you to believe. They need you more than you need them. The way you cut them out of the equation is by saving your money, being frugal, living within your means, not keeping up with the Jone's. You'll win every time.
@Kevinh1998 The pyramid cost $20,500 to build, the studio (octagonal teepee) cost $2500. I added on to it 10 years later and new roof etc bringing the total to around $6500. The other little structure in the movie cost $500 to build, but that is just a shell, no amenities. These are prices for the structures not including wood stoves or appliances etc.
you don`t owe any body ?,,,your funny,,,you owe property tax each and every year,,,so,,if you don`t pay it,,,yes they will come and take it away ,,,

Also, he never mentions the cost of the land. I am sure you would have to finance that and worry about paying the bank.
