Как игрок WorldOfTanks скажу мое представление о идеальном танке:
1. Газотурбинный двигатель - в 2 раза ниже масса, в 2 раза меньше габариты, в 3 раза выше мощность, низкая шумность - преимущества очевидные.
2. КПП позволяющая ему с одинаковой скоростью ездить как передом, так и задом - например в городе выезжать из-за укрытия, стрелять и быстро заезжать назад. Или при неудачном наступлении, быстро отступать показывая противнику тяжело бронированный лоб, а не картонную корму.

its been shown with the Stryker MGS in Iraq, if you were to hit the turret with some 25mm, 30mm, or ATGM fire, the turret, main gun, and optics would be disabled, rendering the tank useless
Very few turrets are able to resist modern warheads.
Most likely an idea consists in minimizing the height of the tank?... and to protect it's crew by the armour of hull as lightly armored turret is not habitable.
One must be very lucky to hit exactly the " lightly armored turret"... the cannon , actually.

Also, laser weapons are not feasible or combat effective in today's age. There are too many variables to account for including weather. Goodluck trying to fire a laser in snow or rain. I guess this means both, a directed energy weapon plus a conventional gun. @wwwtotalitaerde As far as the video says, it's an electromagnetic gun that propels a projectile. A 150mm projectile. You also wouldn't need a barrel for laser beams.
Also, laser weapons are not feasible or combat effective in today's age. There are too many variables to account for including weather. Goodluck trying to fire a laser in snow or rain. Laser weapons are still in their early stages. The tech is there, just not mature enough to be used in such a capacity that the military requires.

Rail guns produce high velocities allowing a long rod penetrator with a small diameter of say 1 cm to go through thick armor and kill a tank. Then the railgun would be 10 mm. Large caliber, is used for HE shells. These would be too heavy for an electrical railgun. You see the Laser optics and the muzzle break cuts of the conventional gun at 0:27

Also ALL laser weaponry are in their prototype and testing stages. You don't see any of that stuff being fielded, do you? Because they are still evaluating its effectiveness. And who needs to blow up more than 1 mine per second??
Using lasers is much more difficult than just attaching some radiation projecting equipment on a tank. Lasers can be disrupted easily
