Hey video uploader, Chris.. you might want to take this down IMO because this is not a good example of the greatness of Gary Perez, and its misleading. Gary was one of the best recording and live guitarists of the Philippines in the 70's.

this vid does not portray that. so please, save him some dignity and take it off, find some footage that is worthy of such a talented artist.. not this man.. my 2pesos.

I am not sure if you are a musician or a knucklehead. Every guitar player has his own style and limitation. While Vai, Petrucci or Malsteen are excellent guitar players... so are Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Clapton..etc. they are not in the same league. And Gary is not trying to compete or prove to anybody else how good he is. He has already written, recorded and played some classic Filipino Rock music. Show some respect dude!! What have you got????

Dalawa sila ni Jun Lopito ng Jerks na parehong mga anak ng matatandang artista (Ben Perez @ Lopito, Sr.) na nahilig sa gitara at niluhuran namin ang pag-riff nila. Every guitar player has his own style, technique and limitation. Gary (and so is Clapton, Santana, Beck, Page, BBKingetc.) is no Satriani or Vai or Howe or Malmsteen. There are so many of us guitar players (myself included) on different levels and unless we have accomplished something, then we really cant walk the walk and talk the talk. Gary certainly can. Lets all enjoy, appreciate and respect each others talent. Peace.

Gary is a good guitar player..he is an icon ..a legend like Wally Gonzales,Resty fabunan[maria cafra]. Nobody is a disgrace to rock and roll.he is one of my influences . he is a legend..remember the haunting song "TAO" he compose that one sang by sampaguita, he can give wally gonzales and resty fabunan a run for their money during the peak of pinoy rock in the seventies,hear the guitar rift in "pagbabalik ng kuwago" and you will be amazed at this guy ..front act when Eric Clapton perform in araneta coliseum in the seventies even slowhand was amazed at his guitar play .incidentally clapton was so engrossed with sampaguita that ..anyway thats another story...

This was pretty much improvised. Gary learned how to play guitar by ear, not through chords. This kind of playing is more like heavy metal, and not everyone is into heavy metal. Besides this was not professionally recorded. It was just recorded off a small speaker that was hooked up to his guitar.

The guitar guru from The Philippines,Gary Perez co-founded the rock band 'Anakbayan' with drummer Edmond Fortuno in the early '70s.Echoing styles of Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Ritchie Blackmore,he had a sonically lethal career, remarkably with Sampaguita and her early works ("Bonggahan","Tao","Laguna").

AnakBayan had several hits, among them the heavy "Probinsyana" (bastardized by Bambobo),and the monster hit "Pagbabalik ng Kuwago".(see clubdredd dot com for more of Pinoy Rock history)
