Not as terrible as he makes it out to be, but the acting probably could be better. It sort of lacks that charm the show had. And there's a lot of "family-film" tropes weighing it down.
You´re so wright, Nostalgia guy. I also think Matthew Broderich was a miscast for Inspektor Gadget and I was also chessed off that I saw the face of Dr.Claw.
@BattyKellen Okay, I take back what I said and you're right there are lots of good movies made for kids and I've seen lots of them. However, I've seen even better adult movies like Inception, The Green Mile, Forrest Gump, Tron Legacy, Shooter, Law Abiding Citizen, etc, the list goes on. So I'm NOT missing out on anything.
i just found a plot hole that ruins the movie's screenplay
if Matthew Broderick was just severly injured AND NOT KILLED, why would the doctor's turn him into a robot? why couldn't they just fix his limbs normally like they'd do with any other patient?
I recently read some comments on the sequel to this peice of shit and one caught my eye...
"Without Matthew Brodrick, the movie lacks a witty charm. That and it feels as if almost no effort was put into this movie. A chuckle here and there, but overall a pretty lousy flick. Hell, I don't think my little cousins would like this, and they barely know what good taste is
ThePhychoHero"...........................WHAT?! IS HE MENTALLY RETARDED I MEAN MY GOD!!!!!
@CoolEasyProductions2 ...did you even read your own comment? "if you can't handle someone's opinion", your freaking out for no reason idiot, you have no right whatsoever to call someone's opinion "absurd", the fact that you even reply with a comment like that simply proves you are a complete dick, if you disagree you could FREELY express it without such hostility, I just hate people who freak out just because someone has an opinion other that differs from your own.
Whats so bad about Matthew Broderick? I thought he was awesome in the movie. Not a fair chance was given whatsoever. He probably just watched it right before the review and said oh wow look at all this stuff I can nitpick about. I thought it was a fun movie when I was a kid, of course it would seems kinda dumb watching it now. But...whatever I guess.
Oh and Matthew did the voice of Simba so..he's cool just for that reason I'd say
@CoolEasyProductions2 Your kinda an asshole aren't you? so if it's a kid's movie then it has the RIGHT to be bad? I watched this movie as a kid and hated it, I thought it was creepy and stupid, never the less this review is funny, simply because you like this movie doesn't mean you have the right to call his opinion "absurd".
That's the thing though, it's pretty cringe-worthy now. But back then it kept us entertained and had the crazy inspector gadget scenes and jokes you would find in the cartoon. It's a kid film, not Shawshank Redemption
@360KingReviews that's the way i bet most people are looking at some of the movies he has reviewed recently. I liked blank check, inspector gadget, doug, etc. because i liked brainless entertainment as a kid :D
They couldn't even make Penny blond or Brain a yellow lab and CGI so he can talk? Where they afraid they would get sued by DIC company if it was too accurate? That's my only guess to why we can also see Dr.Claw with no threatening voice whatsoever I didn't even like the cartoon that much but geez Disney, do it right! Watch a few episodes before production -_-
Sorry, ran out of characters, but anyway, they would be balling their eyes out! Next, you can't expect a disney movie to be produced without a cheezy love plug; That's like Charlie Sheen without drugs. Next, regarding Claw, you can't blame them for not keeping him in the shadowy chair. had they done so it would have been a cliche bad guy shaking his fist from a poorly lit room. pretty dumb sounding to me. all in all, I give Inspector Gadget an 7.5. Not perfect,, but not as aweful as you claim
Dude, I contest your opinion. First, It's a kids movie, not some bruce willis bloodbath. They made jokes that appealed to CHILDREN while making them semi-enjoyable by their parents undoubtably accompaying them to the theater upon release. Second, I enjoy this even now because of its cheezy nature and witty puns. Sure, no oscar worthy performance, but one we can all enjoy. third, If Brodrick were to go into an emotional breakdown over the loss of his humanity, how do you think kids would react?
This movie was fucking shit. Even as a little kid I knew that. The only thing I have watched with Matthew Broderick other than this abomonation was Ferris Bueller's day off, and come on, that movie is a fucking classic.
i remember actually watching this movie as a kid, the only part i remember is the title and the guy who played as inspector gadget. i remember nothing about the movie, there was a sequel and i do remember watching it, even i knew when i was young that i hated it
@Rack44hoonmaster aladdin, the little mermaid, finding nemo, cinderella, the neverending story, alice in wonderland, beauty and the beast, an american tail, e.t...should i go on?
@Rack44hoonmaster Are you kidding me? Are you saying there aren't ANY good kid's films and just the fact that a film is a kid's movie automatically means it doesn't have to be good? Go watch Secret of Nimh, Iron Giant, Toy Story, Spirited Away, Nightmare Before Christmas. Hell, my list goes on and on. There are thousands of movies out there made by people who care about bringing quality to children. It's pretty sad that you seem to have missed out.
I remember being so fucking excited about this movie coming out. I had even memorized the day it premiered and had a countdown for it too, yet when I went to go see it I was so disappointed. Dunno how I managed to figure out this was piece of shit at such a young age. I mean I couldn't tell the other crappy movies I loved were crap until I got older. Weird.
the movie wasnt so bad,the idea is to take a look at the gadgets not the story plus that was back in the past to where movies werent as great as today,so if u got stuff to say about wats wrong with the gadgets like shuvvin alotta toothpast into him then ya u got point but when u go about the story to parts that dont need attention then im not listening
@aabbklll101 Back in the past where movies weren't as great as today? Modern cinema sucks! What was once a legitimate form of art has now become a marketing device that has to appeal to large audiences. Not only that, they also had the wonderful idea to make movies about all the popular tv shows of the 80's, and proceed to rape them on the big screen with abismal writing and pop culture references.
@harry426 A perfect example of that would be Uwe Boll, he takes advantage of german tax loopholes so that he can constantly make horrible movies and still make alot of money
@harry426 Despite all the crap, art is still present. Having seen the movies "The Artist" and "The Social Network"so far this week, I know this is true.
@kickodude I'm not talking about the legitimate art of movie-making, but the omnipresence of the movie INDUSTRY. I know their still are movies with a degree of artistic content, might it be in its visual style or its narrative style. And I saw the Artist too, and by god is it good.
@harry426 Agreed on that basis. The industry nowadays seems to be a race of who has the biggest breasts and can therefore win over the largest adolescent male crowd. As a 16 year old myself, I just feel insulted.
Yet another review about this movie from someone who obviously never saw the show and don't know what they're talking about. Why do I say this? It's because aside from Claw actually being seen (and just think about how lame it would be if he wasn't) there's nothing in this movie that I wouldn't expect to find in the Inspector Gadget cartoon, something few movies based on shows pull off. @immortalfrieza not sure about that. i actually liked the cartoon, but hate the movie. plus, im not the only one to say this. sum of my friend used to love the movie as kids, but now, they seriously cant stand it today, but still love the cartoon. there is another factor into watching and judging child movies, people grow up and begin to notce things. if we really stuck with that kind of logic, Dragon Ball Evolution would have been considered a good movie when it was clearly terrible.
LOL I like how he emphasizes all the time that Dr. Claw was never revealed in the cartoon but is always shown in the movie.
And when I thinik about it why did Dr. Claw need an actual claw, since he clearly has both hands in the cartoon. why couldn't he be called claw from the beginning and why did he need a backstory.
You know, a vast majority of NC reviews are of movies I enjoyed as a kid but as an adult realize how stupid they really were. However, this is the one movie I remember being UTTERLY BORED SENSELESS BY as a kid. Yes, its THAT BAD.
@fluteplaya22593 Yes IG2 was a bad movie, but it did follow alot of the elements form the show. From not seeing Claws face to the dog translator. So yes its a bad flick, but is a step up from IG1
@morrisl123 I agree that it was a step up and Penny actually had blonde hair! But still have G2 the female robot... what was the point of that... what happened to the doctor! And I do agree I loved not seeing Claw... but the casting for Inspector Gadget in IG2 was a bad choice... I think he over-played it
@fluteplaya22593 I think Brenda, Gadget's love intrest in IG1, was sent away to work at Plot Device Univercity after the first movie, as for G2, I have no clue. Also for the new casting of Gadget, I think somewhere in the commentary (no sure if I'm right or not) on the DVD he mentions that he knew he was just having fun in the role, and over-acting was pat of the fun.
@pkstarstorm1up No. I enjoyed the Tom and Jerry movie when I was little (though in my defense, I never heard of the cartoon at the time I watched it).
anyone who doesn't like the reveal of Dr. Claw, any thoughts on the recent picture of the Once-ler in the new Lorax film that never revealed himself in the book?
Yeah....I like this movie better than the sequel...yargh...

And when I thinik about it why did Dr. Claw need an actual claw, since he clearly has both hands in the cartoon. why couldn't he be called claw from the beginning and why did he need a backstory.

those are some pretty badass transitions you got there NC !

You know, a vast majority of NC reviews are of movies I enjoyed as a kid but as an adult realize how stupid they really were. However, this is the one movie I remember being UTTERLY BORED SENSELESS BY as a kid. Yes, its THAT BAD.

You have to admit... Inspector Gadget 2 was a lot worse

@fluteplaya22593 Yes IG2 was a bad movie, but it did follow alot of the elements form the show. From not seeing Claws face to the dog translator. So yes its a bad flick, but is a step up from IG1
morrisl123 1 month ago
@morrisl123 I agree that it was a step up and Penny actually had blonde hair! But still have G2 the female robot... what was the point of that... what happened to the doctor! And I do agree I loved not seeing Claw... but the casting for Inspector Gadget in IG2 was a bad choice... I think he over-played it
fluteplaya22593 1 month ago
@fluteplaya22593 I think Brenda, Gadget's love intrest in IG1, was sent away to work at Plot Device Univercity after the first movie, as for G2, I have no clue. Also for the new casting of Gadget, I think somewhere in the commentary (no sure if I'm right or not) on the DVD he mentions that he knew he was just having fun in the role, and over-acting was pat of the fun.

@morrisl123 oh ok... I guess that makes sense :)

Guy Ritchie ruined Maddonas career? Slap yourself, Snatch and Lock Stock are great movies.

No, they're not. They're overstylised, testosterone-fueled masses of loathsome puerility.

So... Penny is the lost relative of Bruce Wayne?
That explains why she was so smart!

Is it wrong to have enjoyed this movie when I was little?
pkstarstorm1up 4 months ago
@pkstarstorm1up No. I enjoyed the Tom and Jerry movie when I was little (though in my defense, I never heard of the cartoon at the time I watched it).

@PrinterThorn That's just like me. I never knew that Inspector Gadget was a cartoon for the longest time.

@pkstarstorm1up I did like the Inspector Gadget movie as a kid as well. As an adult, I really hate the bad editing. It is just terrible.
