  • Misleading title.

  • kristinaF54, might I point out that "came up with" and "invented" are two different endeavors. Displaying a mockup is an important step; creating a working model is slightly tougher work.

How about the walkie-talkie? 1940's. Just a matter of scale. All the best.

  • @jmh685 A walkie talkie and a cell phone are not the same thing. A walkie talkie range is limited by its output power (10km max?). As the name indicates, the cell phone communicates with a local transceiver within its 'cell' which links it to a phone in another 'cell', and thus enables communication over any distance. The 'invention' is the 'cell' concept and the equipment which links the 'cells'.

Anyone can invent a 'pretend' gadget (Beam me up, Scottie). Making it work is the clever bit!

  • Great Looking Old Man. Sweet & Intelligent too.

  • Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek TOS can up with the mobile phone idea first and the laptop.

  • Dude, can I give you a call??

  • The father of the cell phone!! I own two examples myself!

I'd like to meet this man someday.
