  • i love the 'gold' nugget the guy holds up at 5:10 would weigh something like 100kgs if it was actually gold.

  • @Xaiano if it was pure 24 carrot gold but a gold nugget is full of air holes making it much lighter

  • @TheAlexagius all gold nuggets are pretty much pure gold and are generally solid. I have never seen a single one that had air pockets in, certainly not to that degree. A quick google search shows the real nugget weighs 35.3kg and required 2 men to lift it. Certainly not something you could spin round with one hand.

  • 3:23 I would like of drink some of that...!!!

  • The Perth mint Certificate program is a scam.

  • @jaminunit No it isn't, it's set in place so Investors of Gold can keep it safe, they have a choice of taking the Gold home, but that's absurd to take millions of dollars of gold home.

  • i don't care if it's printed, bars, a gold nugget i could care less as long as it's pure gold.....whoever has the gold makes the rules.

  • WOW nice SHOW OFF~!!!

  • real men real money and a beautiful history. that was australia.

  • Coloured coins are horrible.

  • @thevidmachine WAT A STOOPID PHUK

  • @thevidmachine Coin racist. -.-

  • For an easy safe & profitable way to buy gold exposure you should consider gold miners in you portfolio. Choose low debt companies in low soveriegn risk countries, with good quality projects in the pipeline. In times of prolonged downturn these companies preform well because mines extracting less valuable materials wind back. Equipment, skilled people & services are freed up at cheaper prices due to lower demand. A gold producer I invested in has just had an 8% reduction in mining costs.

  • Holy crap thats a lotta gold i.e. a lotta money

  • I'm skeptical about their certificate program. There are many reports that say they actually sell more certificates than they have the metals for.

  • This is correct

  • Peter Schiff raves about the Perth Mint

  • is it possible to buy gold below spot price, for. ex at a mine?

  • Sometimes gold bullions are being actioned on eBay. But you gotta be quick, bidding is fierce and they're gone fairly quickly.

The reason why the owner sell them below spot price is because they already made alot of profits from the great increase value of gold in the past 8 years.

  • eBay is the worst place to buy Gold. Bidding is fierce because most of it is shill bidding. A HUGE portion of ebay precious metals are a Scam. For example, I show you a picture of a double eagle, 1 oz coin. You send me $1000. Who in their right mind would take a risk like that? Thinking of selling on ebay? Calculate the posting costs, tax on capitial gains...your original investment must increase something like 11% to net a return of zero dollars. Use established sellers. Period.

  • well thats retarded mate. because dealers tax gold and silver like 10% of spot. who wants to lose that much to a dealer? if you make a private sale. both the buyer and seller win. thats why its always better to trade gold privately (for small amounts). also the govt can never find out about it, even if you buy 10grands or 50grands. so there is no cap gains. and even if you only bid on a kilo on ebay, the seller might want to sell way more, and you can deal outside of ebay. fuck the dealers.

  • The problem is that the buyer takes a huge risk, buying from a person who they don't know, can't see, and can't verify. All of your points are based on the assumption that the mate on the other end of the line is a trustworthy bloke. What if they are not? You Risk loosing 100% of your $ buying from a theif, or risk loosing 5% buying from a credible dealer. If you think that theives are not playing the gold market and ebay or any other online auction, right now, as we speak, think again.

  • I've bought many coins on ebay, never a problem. Just use common sense, check feedback, number of transactions, return policy, use credit card as extra protection. I use stores, mines, craigslist, ebay, coin shows. There is no best way to buy metals. If you find yourself face-to-face with a good deal, your smartest move is to make the transaction.

  • @JRCrowley I started buying coins on ebay...well, just got my first one actually lol if gold takes a dip, do you think the final bidding prices for some of these coins will go down? I would just imagine that people would hold onto them instead of selling it if it gets down to like 950 or something. Either way, I can't meet the minimum requirements of getting from some of the mints I've briefly checked out online.

  • Kudos. The smartest physical gold investors do it for the long haul. They do it because they don't trust fiat currency - and rightly so. All fiat currencies throughout history have failed. All of them. It's only a matter of time, but they all fail. During the average person's lifetime, investment in gold is always the perfect (and I mean that word literally) way to hedge against fiat, and at the same time store value. Google the "Beijing put", buy more gold as it drops, and sleep well.

  • @JRCrowley thanks a lot! i was thinking of trading in some of the "well-known" coins i bought (1/4 maple leaf, 1/4 krugerrand) for generic mint gold rounds and bars. what do you think about this? i have a collector's streak in me but i'm mostly interested in the metal content and as long as it's pure gold, that should be okay, right?

  • Well, I would just keep the coins. Bars are nice, but most investors prefer coins.

For a good idea of the premiums being paid for the various types of coins and bars, google "Coins with active offers on eBay"

This will lead you to a site called "24hgold" which shows the going rates for precious metals on eBay. It's sometimes called "the ebay index" because it acts as a kind of index of precious metals prices in the real world.

Right now the 1/4 Krug is selling for a 23% premium!

  • @JRCrowley okay, well it makes sense that i already keep what i got then. but from now on, i don't know if i can afford to pay the mark-ups for some of these coins! i mean i know the dollar is going to decline but for now i gotta eat and pay the rent.

  • That's cool. I agree. Always pay as little premium as possible. But know that the premium you pay now may translate into a higher premium later on. Most people don't like to pay a premium unless they have to, and I tend to agree with that philosophy. But numismatics are all about premium, and they keep rising every year. Stick with the best deals you can get, coins or bars.

  • I've used e bay over and over and over again and have always got deals better then APMEX because of the free shipping.

  • no its not. its cos if you wanna buy them from a bullion dealer, they charge spot, but if you want to sell them to a bullion dealer, they take about 85-90% of spot. thats why its usually cheaper to buy on ebay than from a dealer. Because privately, both buyer and seller can split the spread.

  • Precious metals are the only valid long term investment. All paper assets fail at one point in everyones lives. It has to work that way to transfer wealth to the next generation. Ever notice how no 85 year old people are rich, they are all broke and on medicaid.

  • Thanks for enlightening us with your wisdom on investments.....

Notice how NOT every 85 year old is poor? Precious metals are not the only valid long term invesment. People, like yourself, are only saying that because of the recent price of gold. Bubbles happen in precious metals too....but if you feel better investing your life savings (and then some) into gold bars, perhaps you should study the word "diversification".

  • I would rather have a bubble in precious metals than the obvious scam that is paper assets. Precious metals will always be "Precious" while paper assets will always be paper however I do agree about diversification.

  • I envy any one who has one of those large gold bars. At least I am not to poor yet to that I couldn't afford silver bars.

  • I've got goosebumps.......

  • *drools*

  • I worked in the precious metals vault back in 98-99.. you forget your dealing with such valuable items after a while. At the end of every shift all metals come back to the vault in there various states - blanks, burnished, struck etc. then every single piece is counted or weighed.. every single 1/100th ounce is accounted for. Remember that the gold may be issued to the coining dept as a bar then come back at the end of the shift as 5000 coins.

  • ive been here
