  • One of the most unique vocies I have ever heard, absolutly positive love her vibrato, and thumbs up for the cellos!

  • I really liked that probation worker :/

    #Misfits

    This song is so moving!

  • this hit me right in the heart

  • Profoundly moving.

  • Simply put, my favourite song of last year.

  • This song is so beautiful

  • Wonderful !

  • Only one word can describe this song - BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Her voice is so reminiscent of Annie Lennox here.. Absolutely beautiful song and singer.

  • this is so outrageos .what a voice of this lady

  • her eyes r soo pretty! the dark hair and makeup really makes them pop :-)

  • Claire made this song 1 week after her grandfather passed away :<

  • @ohmygod12361

Not quite right, I was at her Grandfather's funeral, and this song was played in the church. It could be that this recording was made afterwards. I do not know that for sure.

  • too dark for me

  • This is one of the few stunningly beautiful song's around at the moment - It is far too unknown!

  • even though it's sad, this song is strangely comforting

  • I'm not often genuinely moved by much these days.

This is as gorgeous as it is sad. I'm not sure I need to be reminded of everyone I've loved, I've lost and I grieve for. Clare reaches into my soul, and touches my heart with every word. I'm a big burly construction-worker, but I cry like a baby every time I hear this - I don't know how she can be strong enough to get through it.

  • Clare wręcz potrafi hipnotyzować swoim głosem , po prostu lśni wśród innych tandetnych powiedzmy gwiazd ;)

  • I am so sorry. Please forgive me but every time I listen to you sing this song, I have failed to dry my eyes.

  • She's a nicer version of Cher.

  • Clare Maguire is simply GORGEOUS and her album is just AMAZING and like it's kinda upsetting that more people don't know her as an artist. This song is seriously nothing short of beautiful!

  • I love her

  • Sounds just like Loreena Mckennitt's "Parting Glass."

  • @cranrash

it's the same melody. But I don't care. with a voice like that, Clare Maguire can use the melody to Bohemian Rhapsody and no one will mind.

  • @cranrash i thought the same when i heard it.

  • Misfits! :)

  • Her voice <3

  • 'No description available' - More like No description needed.

  • This is such a beautiful song.

  • R.I.P Probation Worker...

    :'(

  • @LoopMasterBulu The best one =(

  • For all the abandoned souls...

  • Felt like crying listening to this when the probation worker died, actually grew to like him :(

  • @iloveAlphabeat I KNOW! he was the only probation worker that i liked!

  • wow! I can't believe how beautiful this song is

  • Of all the money e'er I had,

I spent it in good company.

And all the harm I've ever done,

Alas! it was to none but me.

And all I've done for want of wit

    To mem'ry now I can't recall

So fill to me the parting glass

Good night and joy be with you all.

  • SHAAAAUN NOOOO WHY?!

  • i watched this in misfits last night i nearly cryed :( R.I.P probation worker

  • This is not the end.... Maybe it's a sign about Shaun? I hope so. :D

  • perfect for a dead love...

  • R.I.P Shaun: Best probation worker so far

  • misfits, anyone?

  • Amazing, truely amazing

  • MISFITS.

  • is it Wrong that i have a tear in my eye? :<

  • Such a good song, play it full blast with headphones on, sit back and close your eyes.. amazing <3

  • Magical.

  • That's my sister right there

  • How can you not be touched by this?

  • This lady could kick Gaga out of business easily.

Such beauty in her voice. Pure talent.

And I agree, perfect song for funeral.

  • omg this shud play when I'm dead.

  • i love her voice!!!

  • What a marvelous voice she has

  • I've followed a singer song writer from glasgow with a similar vocal depth. Horse has been on my radar for 20 years. I only stumbled upon clare macguire because someone mentioned it on horses twitter. Thank you for posting this. I like both artists but Horse is my all time fav. I'll be listening to more of clare. Thanks.

  • Can someone help me understand these lyrics, Im not sure, what she wants to say:

    A heart of thorns must

    Leave the mind

But when in time I see your face

    The scars will fade

    The heart will mend

  • @Petrisssimo The whole song is basically about her having to go away in death, but that the living can't understand why and will not until they see her again, so they should focus on living their earthly lives in joy rather than focusing on loss.. I interpret that particular line to mean that she's been thinking a lot and her broken heart is taking precedence over that. Her soul needs to be free (in death, of course), despite what her logical side says.

  • @Petrisssimo I see this song as her talking to us after she's dead and as a message to her loved ones who have to deal with the pain of that loss. If you look at the phrase right before, she says, "And if someone else must take my place....I'll wait and I'll understand." She's giving us (the grievers) the permission to be happy again and find joy in someone else. "the heart of thorns" I see as the burden of her loss and that it's OK to sometimes forget. Knowing when we see each other again,

  • @m05ang (ran out of characters!) That all will be well and our hearts will be mended. At least this is what I think of when I hear this song. Which I completely LOVE!

  • @m05ang its not possible to describe this song better !

  • This is a stunning piece of work !!

  • Thank you for the amazing music and video.

  • The song and voice of the poetic dimension. Truly amazing.

  • Bawled like a baby...... I don't know what I would do if I could sing like that

  • One of the violinists has tears in her eyes,I would be sobbing by the end of this song. So beautifule

  • Ovo je nesto najbolje sto sam u zivotu cuo..Clare obozavam te.

This is the best thing I have ever heard .. Clare adore you.

  • This song always brings a tear in my eye and sends goosebumps up my back. Such beautiful lyrics. <3 it

  • im so playing this at my funeral. (this was decided when i bought the album the first day it came out) i love it so much. it makes me cry every time:''')

  • This song is so going to be my funeral song. It's beautiful.

  • one of the best song ever! clare maguire is amazing!

  • Holy crap, this is such a beautiful and haunting voice. I think I'm in love.

  • 4 people met their end

  • Such talent I have not seen in years....

  • Legend♥

  • Oh come on, 85248 views?!?! At least 200 of those are mine! Is the world really THAT small or are so many people tone deaf?

  • @propalica1 Both! 1 260 are mine!

  • O_o I cried.Beautiful.

  • Just close your eyes and listen. Absolutely stunning and delightful.

  • I kind of feel like this song is meant to be sung from the grave.... Is it?

  • @cgray00

    Agreed.

  • I love you.. ; n;

  • OMG!!!!! I LOVE HER!!!

I'VE GOT TEARS IN MY EYES

  • @knil2 - Clare has been quoted saying that she "wrote the lyrics and based the music on 'The Parting Glass,'

  • @scorpiodevil08 The tune is most certainly 'The Parting Glass' , and the lyrics were inspired by it too - but why the hell not? She is not the first to rewrite that song. Bob Dylan did it in 'Restless Farewell' thirty-odd years ago.

  • @lilaleahg I'm deaf to low tones in one ear and so have trouble hearing most artists lyrics, but I understood this perfectly! I think even if I couldn't though, you can still get the beauty and emotion of the song surely?

  • .... Parting Glass by Emer Kelley anyone? :P

I don't know which is original, but I can't get over the melodic similarities.

Both are great songs though. <3

  • Her vibrato makes her words hard to understand.

  • wow, she is so beautiful

  • Claire Maguire has a beautiful voice and is very talented. This song is beautiful.

  • this is finally antony in female's body!

  • a bit sad song...

  • Err... I love this, but she uses too much vibrato in MY opinion. I DO love this though. :)

  • @TheDramaMan I agree. Lovely song, annoying voice. Same kind of voice as Anthony from Anthony and the Johnsons - waaaay too shaky to be able to relax and enjoy.

  • Nice

  • the nicest singing voice i've heard in a long long time

  • She is my friends cousin and she is awesome!!!!!!!!

  • @LDdudeman Wow! Do you know her then??

  • @LDdudeman Wow! Do you know her then??

  • Удивительный текст, просто сжимает сердце...и разжимает. А потом опять сжимает. Просто невероятно. Оох....

  • wow she is just amazing. one of my favorites.

  • sometimes you hear a song and you know that it will stay with you for a long time, like this mesmerizing song..!

  • Can't stop listening to this song. Everything about it is so wonderful. Such a pure, emotional song and voice to match. The way she accents the "d" in the word end at the end of the song makes me so happy.

  • Literally just discovered her a few minutes ago, and I am so blown away by her voice. This song gives me chills.

  • SHE IS SO PERFECT !

  • This reminds me so much of my mother as she spoke before she passed away from cancer. It moved my soul deeply. Thank you.... it is not the end...

  • @AKAlex47 her ansesters are from Ireland! x

  • @xlisdoonxchickx So are mine. I'm still Scottish.

  • I don't understand people who cry at songs or movies.......softies!

  • @o0mgn I can; it's a little thing called "empathy".

  • what an amazing voice seriously stunning =O

  • How depressing :L!

  • For about 2 months now, not any song but NeYo - Together could make me feel anything. It's as if i shut myself down. The only reason that song by NeYo could make me feel anything was because it was mine and my now ex's song. So it made me cry. This song made me shocked from such a beautiful women, sinigng with such an amazing voice. When i first heard it, i thought i would dislike it because it reminded me of Opera. But, this song made me cry. And when i cried it felt good to feel something.

  • I heard this for the firs time today...and I was moved beyond words. It is beautiful and haunting and can melt the coldest of hearts.....her amazing voice and insightful lyrics are a wonderful combination.....so much so when the time comes it will be played at my funeral....not because its sad but because of the meaning and hope behind it

  • If there ever was someone who can encapsulate you in a blanket of warmth and peace, it is Clare Maguire. I am in awe.

Absolutely mesmerising. An enchantment of the highest calibre. Her album deserves all the praise it has been bestowed thus far.

I can safely say, it has been one the best music purchases I have made in my life.

  • Im in tears listening to this. This womans voice is something incredible. She looks soo young let her voice is soo deep, mature. Has a weathered quality to it, such a strong voice yet warm and fragile at the same time. I got chills from the beginning to the end.

  • this is perfect!

  • I heard this song today, when I got her album and I started crying within a minute or two. <333

  • I tell thee, the two people that disliked this video still cried while listening to the song.

  • What a stunning production. Setting aside the poetry set to a lovely wistful melody, credit must be give to Fraser T. Smith, who’s influence and considerable commercial experience must surly have contributed immeasurably. The backing ensemble is pretty impressive too.

But best of all – what a wonderful piece of art (but take it easy on the vibrato darling).

  • I get Saxman’s point. A small ever-tragic country constantly battered by the Atlantic.

This girl is tremendous. What a lovely rich warm contralto (though she could ease up a tad on the vibrato – that’ll come with experience). That a girl so young could write lyrics like this, put it to a beautiful melody - and then sing it !

Love the video – so symbolic – it’s like 8 English women (strings) supporting the lament of a little sister (Ireland) – whose tassels they’ve been pulling forever.

  • @SeaCaptaino She was born in Birmingham mate. It's just a video, stop making pseudo-intellectual analogies.

  • @AKAlex47

Chillax man. Popeye just said why he liked it. What’s with all the heavy brainy stuff. It’s just a nice bird singin’ ; it’s not jazz.

  • @AKAlex47 Yeah but her ancesters was Irish,

  • @SeaCaptaino why would 8 english women have a little irish sister @.@ ?

  • Cleary of Irish stock (visually and by reputed temperament !), she has written a timely comment to the heart rendering sorrow now apparent in Ireland’s airports, as once again this land haemorrhages yet another generation to emigration. Claire’s ancestors probably experienced this. Formerly Dun Laoghaire or Cobh; Dublin Airport is now the scene for the sundering of loved ones – at times for ever.

She sings in (almost) the old Sean Nós style; a genre that connects directly to the soul.

  • @MxSaxman

I was wondering what style it was.

  • @MxSaxman And British.

  • @JohnnyZenith Indeed so. I would say Great British.

  • @JohnnyZenith Indeed so. I would say Great British.

  • @JohnnyZenith Indeed so. I would say Great British.

  • @JohnnyZenith Indeed so. I would say Great British.

  • @MxSaxman Good man!

  • Listening to this performance it's like experiencing an extrasensorial experience. Her voice came down from heaven as a gift, I bet that she's an angel, really.

She can reduce me to tears like only three other singers could in my life.

  • I heard this song for the first time on the radio today, absolutely stunning!! I had to pull in to the side of the road to listen to it, Wonderful!

  • Hauntingly beautiful

  • Hauntingly beautiful

  • Dxmn! Her voice is so powerful and moving! I really heart this song!

  • oh my god this is the song i have been longing to hear for years! The mournful strings and her voice are like falling in love for the first time just a beautiful song

  • hard not to fall in love with this girl even when you're a girl. :)

  • Hellfire, how good is this.

  • I.N.C.R.E.I.B.L.E

  • simply beautiful

  • Stunning

  • this is the most depressing song i've ever heard. seriously, holy shit. i feel like i want to down a bottle of whisky and throw myself down stairs ;___;

  • @sweatyourblood Clare actually wrote this song after her Grandad died. Have a bit of respect.
