The seats are uncomfortable, there's not one of these trains without duct tape, it's dull inside... But that speed... and that unforgettable sound. That sound.
I can not tell you how much i love the sound this train makes. I mean as a kid i was obsessed with it, i lived in Walthamstow at the time so we used to always get on the Victoria line 1967 stock i believe (my second favourite) so when we did go on the Central line it was always special for me. Funny cos now i live in woodford and i get this train everyday to college and back.
Also i loved how (pre chancery Lane crash) the trains used to fly, now they've obviously lowered the speed :(
"This train terminates at Hainault via Newbury Park"...burned in my memory. :D I was back and forth from London one year and stayed in Holland Park quite a bit. One evening, already tired, I had to go back to Oxford Street. I get really silly when I'm overtired and found myself repeating the phrase low but out loud. One person near me gave me a knowing look and a grin. :D But I do miss it because it brings back silly memories.
How can you say the 1992 Stock for Central Line is the worst... Fastest computerised train on the system in my opinion. Top 5 Good Trains 1. - 1992 Central Line Stock 2. - 1973 Metro Cammel (Piccadilly Line) 3. - D78 Unrefurbised (Prefered) 4. - 1967 Metro Camel (Victoria Line) 5. - C69/C77 Stock H & City Line Top 5 Worst Trains on the system 1. - 1996 Jubilee Line 2. - 1995 Northern Line 3. - D78 (Refurbished) 4. - Docklands Light Railway (Old Stock) 5. - A Stock Metro Line
I hate that mind the gap announcement-I like the deep male voice one because every time I went to London ( I live in Newcastle) I heard that on most of the lines
nice to see another 92 lover!, my faves are similar, centrals number one, jubilees number 2, picadillyds number 3, victorias number 4 (shame its gettin replaced, expecially as the 2009 stock is hideous) and cant really decide on a fifth
i wish i had :( i managed to get one or two photos of it, and the driver even put it in coded manual for part of the journey and let me sit in his seat for a few seconds at one stop!
This vid sparked up my memory too! I spent a week in London on holiday 5 years ago(part of a 3 week trip along with Paris and Rome). And like you, of course I took the tube to get everywhere. WAY faster than the buses! I've heard Londoners bitch about the tube system, but I thought it was fast, clean, and convienent. Only bad things I can recall were that its very loud and the ride is rather bumpy. ;-p
