@MrRoflcopterfromHELL Funny you should say that....when he was younger, he would fly over to the table and dive into my coffee for several gulps before I could stop him. Luckily it was not too hot! But I have learned my lesson...he no longer imbibes in coffee. Coffee and cockatoos= one BAD mix!

@sabrinastar2005 Thank you! He is quite a character. He talks quite a bit, although not always on camera. Yesterday, my son was visiting, and left the room, which Valentine did not like, so when my son returned, Valentine said.."I'll GET you, BOY!"

@MissPickletoes Jan, I try so hard to educate others about the responsibilities on birds. I really feel that education is the key to shutting down rescue centers because if some people had any idea what they were getting into, they would not get a bird.

I have a sweet little budgie parakeet. He's very friendly and dog like. He comes when he's called but he doesn't beg for food, he'll just take it XD. do all budgies like brown or dark hair? He'll fly on peoples heads because they have dark hair.

Reminds me so much of Caesar. My aunt's pet bird. It never cared for most of my family for some reason. Drew blood a few times. But he would perch on my shoulder for an hour or more without incident. My only guess is that he was responding to some small amount of discomfort or perhaps fear on their part. Brilliant animal though. Were it not for their lifespans, I would consider getting a young one.

@ElNerdoLoco From my research, they say that cockatoos are the MOST difficult of the parrots to keep as pets. After they mature, they can be unpredictable. My guy has remained very sweet towards me, but attacks my poor husband every chance he can get! The man is a saint!

As for the life spans, I agree..my Valentine is 14, and I am 58. He will no doubt outlive me.

@luigifan1111 ..Well...some can be trained...but mostly they go whenever the mood strikes them. My other cockatoo is like that, as is my African Grey. Valentine, however , has learned to tell me when he has to go. He will say "got to!" Then I take him back to his playstand where he 'goes'!

Um.....I got him as a baby...and he is still a virgin at age 12! Most cockatoos simply love music and some will dance. Look up Snowball the cockatoo...he is a great dancer!

I bought him at a good price. The lady was dying. I drove 3 hours to get him. He bit me 3 times- but that is my fault. The place is not lonely with him around. He is jealous of the new cat- and the cat is fearful of the bird. (go figure) lol
