The Republican party is a joke. They do nothing for 6 years and now they want to point fingers? They redirect tax money to oil companies in the form of tax breaks instead of giving the money to research companies to develop renewable energy sources. Idiots!

I don't think you understand that the research companies ARE the oil companies. Chevron, Texaco, Shell - they all research renewable resources.

"big oil" doesn't set the price. It's a commodity, and the global market sets the price. Supply and demand 101. To add to that, developing nations like China and India are consuming more and more as they industrialize, and although they have the largest increases in usage, they are not alone. Also, although alt energy is a great idea it won't get get food and other products to market en-masse anytime soon, i.e. Trucks,Trains,Planes,Ships,hea­vy equipment, and not to mention cars.

It's not just supply and demand, it's about projected supply and demand. It's based on what they think is going to happen, not what is. Thats why the price went up when Iran shot off a couple missles. They thought Iran might stop the passage of oil. What I didn't see is the price go down when the companys got their hands on Iraq oil. So why is that?

Because the Iraqi government was not able to get it together until the surge had a chance to work. BUT currently gas prices are dropping daily because now the speculators are playing the market short because they realize the ground swell of support for will defeat Emporor Pelosi's tactics.

You're missing the point, If there's no increase of oil production, the price will remain artificially high. If the Democrats care so much about the plight of Americans who are suffering due to high oil prices, why do they shrug their shoulders and go on vacation?

I do agree that the games that are being played are not fare. I don't think I am missing the point though. I do get it. The issue is that we do have "increased oil production". In Iraq. We have five major companys that have struck a deal for oil in

Iraq and that has done nothing to the price. Because they set the price. So they can pass legislation. So they can control the people and the market. I'd rather solve this problem properly, rather than give in to oil companys that cause the issue.

I'm sorry, but the problem is more complicated than you wish for it to be. BIG BAD OIL is not the villain. Nor is it solely the speculator's fault either or even OPEC. It is an artificially created shortage, and the bubble will burst sooner or later. Right or wrong, the Republicans are searching for answers, while the Democrats are content to do nothing. They are unwilling to even debate the Republican plan, because the truth that they have no plan of their own would be exposed...

It's how this country works. The companys need to make profits plain and simple. Here is a unique oportunity to make more profits later.
