  • If everyone that could exchange their car journeys for a great road bike did so, the world would be a better place.

  • i'm mostly nightmares of bumping into back mirrors

  • i was riding bike in the side of the road and my friend was in the middle end story some guy got mad and couldnt catch my friend so almost killed me and the sign said share the road, he scream your not supposed to be riding here i pointed at the sign he's like ill call the police. bottom line he gave up.

  • you fuck nuts dont belong on the road

  • When visiting LA a few years ago, I couldn't help noticing how bike friendly it was there... Here in Texas, even though we have the space, it sucks for cyclists. I have never seen a designated bike lane in Dallas , period.

  • Everything that the guy said is right. As far as the law is concerned in VA, bicycles are vehicles when operating on the road. Driving a car is a privelage, not a right. Your ability to drive a car can be taken away. I drive and ride a bike. Ive seen some crazy drivers and some pretty dumb bicyclists. Anyone who cannot handle sharing a road with a bicycle shouldnt be driving. How hard is it to steer a car- its on four wheels.

  • wear bright colored clothes whether you are riding in a city or outside the city. Check your equipmen! Be visible, predictible, anticipate... Keep in mind the fact that not all drivers respect traffic rules and regulation... respect rules and regulation

A helmet is not fastfood, it really saves you from head injury and a trip to hospital or worse... you seldom get hit by SUV's but most deadly cycling accidents involve brain injuries!

  • The most important thing is to be seen. Most serious accidents to cyclists occur at junctions when drivers fail to see the cyclist. The three solutions to this are: Wear bright colours. Use effective lights. When approaching a junction check over your shoulder to see if a car will be alongside you when you pass the junction. If it will you can be fairly sure other drivers will see and give way to that car. If you are passing the junction alone move to the middle of the road and be seen. Simple.

  • For me, in south carolina, traffic is huge trucks with inbred retard teenagers who don't know how to drive, well actually no one here can drive, a week ago a 50 year old in a porsche hit me

  • What about the geniuses that park and decide to open their car doors without looking.

  • This video is mislabeled, I hardly consider what I saw traffic. I was thinking more downtown with two or three lanes in each direction kind of traffic.

  • I had a cement truck on one side and a lorry ride on the other....i almost shat myself in fear.

  • thanks a lot man, i was riding on the right side of the road and had a head on collision

  • i have gotten cut off by an idiot and had the choice between a parked truck and fenceposts with a chain running between them. i picked the fence went head over heels hit and tree and pulled 2 posts out of the ground.

  • GREAT vid!

    PREDICTABILITY is so important.

  • Beware of parked cars too.

  • what about bikers who ride in the MIDDLE of the road? I've seen this numerous times, is that okay?

  • @TheMadzymoo As long as you are faster than cars... yes :) Which is the case in urban traffic...

  • dagutone...what is soooo suuuuspicious about retiring from Professional level racing at 29? Peopl like youwho make strange antagonistic comments and not being specific and aloof about what it is they are referring to are cowards and weak people. Just like a moron motorist who needs to send a message driving way too close and making a cyclist feel like they don't belong on the road. Get a life.

  • I hate when i'm cycling in front of a car and they tailgate me.

  • hey you! you´ve forgotten the most important thing: WEAR A HELMET!

  • @docelvis01 Helmets are probably the least important safety tip. They only help you after you've already wrecked, and Styrofoam isn't going to save your life if you're hit by an SUV. Better training, good quality tires, good quality and well-adjusted brakes, and a mirror are far more important because they help prevent an accident. "Wear a helmet" is a fast-food solution for safety - it's quick, it's easy, it's cheap, but it's not as good for you as other food.

  • @docelvis01 He said that already in a differant video. This is also for Riding in Traffic and you should wear a helmet even on bike trails so he didnt want to missguide someone.

  • @docelvis01 thats like saying, "use shoes". No shit. You should be wearing a helmet every time u ride..

  • When making a left turn, do I use the lane the cars would use and wait for the light to turn green as if I'm a car? What if I'm the first one there and the ground sensor doesn't sense me?

  • @SteadyRepping you are correct, if the light does not sense you go when the opposing side goes

  • Kevin. You retired in 2002 @ age 29? I believe?

    Suuuussspiiiiiciouuuosss...

  • Generally good points however, I have found that if you ride really close to the edge of the road drivers will pass too close, maybe thats just where I live where drivers drive like morons

  • @KrunchyJD

I totally agree. My experience is, that it is best to drive near the middle of the lane. That way cars have to use the other lane to overtake.

  • @KrunchyJD I agree. It does 2 things. First, as you said drivers will generally pass a bit wider if you take more of a center position. 2nd, it gives the rider some room to get to the right if they are passing too close. When I see them starting to pass I pull to the right which gives more separation.

  • ok im sorry, but this is rediculous. 1:55 He says always assume that drivers don't see you. EXCELLENT ADVICE, but how can you possibly assume that drivers don't see you if you are to the left of the white line in their lane with your back to them?

It's tragic when a bicyclist gets hit by a car don't get me wrong, but it's inevitable because you must trust every driver on the road to not kill you because you've intentionally put yourself in their way with your guard down.

  • So, by posting that, are you basically admitting that you don't know if you're a good kisser?
