wow that looks complicated, goes way over my head, Im pretty good with making textures and opacity maps using photoshop, been thinking about giving meshes a try, but obviously judging by this tutorial it certainly is not something that will happen over night. Thank you very much for making this tutorial.
can you do a really quick tutorial on the photoshop side of things how to create the opacity maps for the butterfly im really strugling and need youre help would really apreciate it
yes it makes sende and works now, but.. i am anal and the tutorial doesnt mention to hit return/enter.. that is what i was missing. sorry i know i'm a pain when learning things but i follow the tutorials to the letter.. it's a curse
ok sorry but its not working. for the plane, after i do a C+A and i name it, Butterfly [0] then deselect it, the name is not in the drop down box. thats what your tutorial says to do and what should happen if it's done right. So, i must be missing something the only thing i notice different in the tutorial and my screen is that my plane is grey where yours is transparent, not sure if that's why it's not working
@joyfull14u Here is how it works: The box will only show the name if you have the polygons (or objects) selected that are part of the selection set. So, if you use Ctr+A and select all the polygons, and then type in a name and hit return then you will set that selection to that name. But once you deselect the polygons the name will go away. You can then click the drop-down and you will see the named selection set, which if you click on it you will then select the polygons again. Make sense?
hey madn dislike being an idiot, but... i got all you said in the last reply, made sense.
what i am not getting, nor seeing,,, is how both bones are selected at the same time to link them together. Also, I notice that your cursor changes to the small black hand grasp tool to move the mesh and seems your using that to zoom in and out too ty joy
. It just takes a lot of practice and then more practice. Max takes time to learn, so be patient & you'll get there. To select both bones, just select one and then hold Ctrl and click on the other to select it too. The black hand you see is not for moving the objects around the scene, but for panning the view-port that your working in. That black hand is called the "Pan View" tool and can be found at the bottom right of the interface, or simply hold down the Middle Mouse button.
ok i am following this to a point. seems i am not getting the zero'ing in of the bones, i get them both to zero, yet the tutorial says to make the other one 180. when i do it moves that bone to the bottom of the grid. then if i put them both back to zero, and go to link, i cannot select both of the bones at the same time. can you help me to see what i am doing wrong. ty joy.
@joyfull14u By selecting a bone, and the Move Tool and changing the world coordinates system to "World" and then setting the X, Y, & Z to 0 you will center the bone's pivot point in the scene. The "180" isn't for moving, it is for adjusting the Rotation of the bone, not the Position. If you want to make sure your bone's rotation starts out at either 0 degrees, or 180 degrees you need to select the bone and then the Rotate Tool and then adjust the X, Y, Z to either 0, or 180.
hey could you get back to me. I am trying to figure out how to resize objects. I am struggling with sizes. I noticed you said it matters bone size in reference to the root. Is that why determines size in imvu? Any help is well taken. I tried scaling all of it up and nothing happened. I tried scaling up just my object and that did nothing. I tried sizing up my bones and nothing happened. I'm stuck with a super small object and can't size it. If anyone reads this and knows how to help me please.
@warriorbysword2 What you need to do is always make sure that the mesh and the bones are the right size before you skin the mesh. This is the best way to do it. If you have already skinned the mesh you can also select the root node and scale it up in size which will then effect the size of everything that is linked or skinned. All you need to do is download the example chairs and couch from the education center and use the meshes and avatar statues in those files for size references.
when i click on dummy it doesn't change at the bottom left saying click and drag? is there as reason it's not letting me make a dummy? is their a button u press to enter a certain mode? any advice?

@warriorbysword2 to anyone having this problem I corrected it by deleting my root resizing then make a new root and link it.
