mounted gunners are hany in skirmish mode vs a infantry unit because if they shoot and the enemy comes close they skirmish and reload while riding and then it's effective so it's a skirmish unit

I really think that you didn't give the mounted gunners enough credit, if you attack a yari ashigaru or any infantry unit that can't catch up to your horses before you fire, and disengage they will be reloaded. Pull them back and hit and run a great guard.

heir, i played vs you a few days ago and this video demonstarted exactly what i asked you about. it happend to me quite a few times that my vetted GG charged even a green yari cav that was standing still, and i mouse over them and see "unit losing decisevely" .. it's a serious bug imo

I don't have this game, so I don't know if this will work, but I have an idea of how to counter-act loan sword spams. You get the two-hundred range bow monks to destroy his matchlocks and bows, and then get a lot of veteran or non-veteran bow samurai with two or three sturdy katana samurai. After the any skirmishing, the bow samurai would hopefully wear down his loan swords enough so that they would do much less in a melee with your samurai units, and then rout.

From what I have found dakyu ssmuri cos of armour and numbers can straight up beat a bow monk. But because of thier slower reload they don't have the killing power against other tarrgets that a bow monk has

They did, monks were easily countered by bows though. They shouldn't have been nerfed. Now they cost a ton and do nothing while being extremely vulnerable to missiles.

Reason why Daikyu Samurai are useful;

Daikyu means "Long Bow" and was the longest bow in Ancient Japan. This allowed the Samurai to fire arrows that are probabably more of an equivelant to Javelins. So you take a couple these guys, fire into an armored unit, itll be like cuttin' butter with a smooth knife.

@Geistmeister6 the melee general doesn't take a penalty vs spears. Normally the long yari get 30 bonus vs cav, but that doesn't affect a melee gen. He'd cut right through them as easily as he would a loan sword.

A few things about the test. Bow samurai vs Bandit isnt a good test, as bow ashigaru will beat bow samurai in a ranged fight. Aumor doesnt mean anything in a bow fight honestly.

@HannibleBonaparte When i was a low star like 3 or 4, i would always bring bow ashigaru as a skirmish force. With ammunition upgrades a lv 5 bow ashi will beat a lv 5 bow samurai. Its sad but true. If they are both vanillia they will run out of ammo before killing each other, which is why in my opinion bow samurai are a waste of money when they cant rout a bow ashi 1v1. Yes they have more morale, but they still suck in melee if its not classical battle. All in all the double cost isnt worth it.

People who like it normal have standard, people like you who want some gore have Mild, and people like me who want the realest thing possible with arms and heads getting chopped off and people exploding by mortars have Extreme. CA tried to explain the cav charge bug a little. What happens is that the cav unit retains the charge bonus even after the charge is completed and that is why a weaker cav unit sometimes wins vs. a stronger one.

Turn off the first view please :) in skirmish its fun, but only a several volleys. But in melle fight its annoying then you watch entire fight and battle in first view. More fun watch killing animation. Just a tip :)

Also, Fire cav vs yari cav: With any cav charge sometimes it never goes the way you expect. Example: a yari cav of mine, 3 chevs vs a 2 chev GG. they won the charge somehow. The charge system is messed up.

I don't see your logic with half these examples.

The marathon monks straight up beat the naginata monks with 33% ~ of their strenght left. This alone makes up for their increased cost, but when you look at them having higher speed AND a way to recover their stamina why would you ever use naginata monks instead?

If you want to do this properly then you either need to compare a) Vanilla units against eachother and account for cost OR b) Units of same cost via upgrades. This is straight up dumb

@Happyfewl well, this video was meant to display the DLC units and how they did vs relatively similar non-DLC units. The marathon warrior monks (although properly managed to destroy my naginata warrior monks), had a mere 30 men left, not enough to influence a real battle, especially considering the archers that might have been trained in upon them. So for an extra 300-400 koku you don't really get all that much. Now we're not saying that its worthless, just not cost effective.

You cannot say "Okay this unit beats this other unit costeffectively, however there might be some other circumstances which prevents it from doing so, so it isn't worth it

If 30 men lives after breaking 1 unit of yours, that's 30 men that slips through your line/flanks/assists another unit.

I don't meant to bash but this is done very poorly and doesn't have the information i personally wanted.

@Happyfewl it wasn't tested particularly well due to veteran upgrades etc. However a Good player wouldn't reinvest such a damaged unit because they could cause a chain rout if put near other units. they could only really be used as arrow fodder and even that is poor as they have little armour

@Happyfewl mm well you are quite right that marathon monks do have their purposes, but their niche is so small in a competitive battle that the cost is too high for them to be truly effective. I personally don't use nearly any monk units besides bow warrior monks, for they cost too much for too little gain. Its just the marathon monk is slightly more useless than the other naginata monks. You are also right that it might have been smarter to match 4 marathon monks vs 5 regular monks for cost.

I did a test of a bunch of Daikyu versus Bow Warrior Monks and even repeating the test and playing as both, Daikyu won outright, and cost less. I think they're pretty cool.

I actually like mounted gunners, but the thing to remember is that the are not anti cav unit, they are best used to run behind enemy lines when the fight breaks out and just shoot into the backs on the enemy, There mobility is good enough to allow this, granted this strategist relies on you having cav superiority
