  • Is that Deniece or Minnie singing?

  • I have all of his albums

  • SING IT SYREETA! I love her part of the song- she blows lil stevie's cover of infidelity in thier relationship.

..."I know our love would have to end the day i made it w/ur friend...

..."your crying big crocodile tears--don't match the ones i cried for years...

this is an interesting disclosure of the end of their marriage.

  • @marianance thank you I wondered if that was her and now I know . that is cold blooded and she sings the hell out of it . "since one aint good enough for you , then do yourself see how you do" it was last night when I finally look up the lyrics

  • @cstack418

you can make guesses about their marriage as much as you like but it aint syreeta singing - its shirley brewer

  • @tonyhume060 I said I have all his albums nothing about marriage . see its right there . but thanks for the other info I think

  • yea baby the scorn of a women. never better, told me off succinctly, and I love it !

  • I use to sing Denise Williams/Minnie Riperton's part at the top of my lungs. My neighbors must have h8ted me but I couldn't help it because this song commands you to sing and do the Tina Turner shrug

  • MASTERPIECE !!

  • if you ever been in love and been a player...you probably have lived this song.

  • Rahxn, too funny!!! I Totally agree..

  • i remeber all the lyrics to this song and i haven't heard it since the album came out...Songs in the Key of Life...this was one of the greatest albums ever...ur just a masochistic fool...because u knew my love was cruel...that is one of the hardest verses in this song

  • i remeber all the lyrics to this song and i haven't heard it since the album came out...Songs in the Key of Life...this was one of the greatest albums ever

  • Stevie Wonder

    Amazing man

  • Correction: Syreeta Wright!

  • Sereeta Wright, Stevie's wife at the time is on vocals...he was out somewhere do'n the DO.

  • Ohh stevie, u have done it again ma brother. great work bro. u ROCK!!!

  • I Love the first part of this song Stevie kills it but the other part when the beat switches sucks that lady is Annoying

  • I met Michael Sembello (lead guitar) on this cut once, in a studio. Very nice,

down to earth guy. A talent like Stevie Wonder comes along once in a very long time. I hope he'll keep making music for many years to come. A beautiful soul.

  • HE ONCE HAD A BACKUP GROUP CALLED " WONDERLUV" , ARE THEY BACKING HIM UP ON THIS ALBUM?

  • @frstwonder "Ordinary Pain" (Wonder) – 6:16 Mike Sembello—lead guitar Hank Redd—alto saxophone All other instruments—Stevie Wonder Minnie Riperton, Mary Lee Whitney, Deniece Williams, Syreeta Wright—background vocals Shirley Brewer—reply Linda Lawrence, Terri Hendricks, Sundray Tucker, Charity McCrary, Madelaine Jones—reply's background vocals

  • But like a playboy, you've said no

  • I just don't have any idea of what I'm going to write because this song is just astonishing

  • So soulful.

  • Me. I do. I remember listentng to every song on vinyl.

When it was first released. I love you, Stevie. I love you.

I still have the records. I Love You. You are the greatest.

I met you in New Orleans. I shook your hand. I love you.

  • Me. I do. I remember listentng to every song on vinyl.

When it was first released. I love you, Stevie. I love you.

  • I LIKE THIS ONE TOO

  • AWESONG SONG THE ENTIRE ALBUM

  • Badu interpolated parts of this tune for "Penitentiary Philosophy"...the groove and vocal melody starting at approx. 2:45...

  • Comment removed

  • I learned Deniece Williams entire part of this song as a 13 year old! Didn't know what I was talking bout then, but I do now!!!!!!

  • Steveie is the Master Musician! This song is one of my many favorites from this LP and I agree the Ladies do blow it away! and yeah that does sound like Miss Syreeta layin down the lead vocal her "come and get this stuff" from her Stevie Presents Syreeta Album is a similar funky track that rocks. Monster Music making!

  • Man, I love this song. I wore out that album. For a blind man, he sees so well into my soul, lol. And lady's rebuttal, man! Blows my mind!

Who else remembers liking every single song on an album, not just one or two, and skipping the rest?

  • @KehCami Not for nothin but you can preview albums now instead of buying them blindly. Not that you have to. Just sayin.

  • @CorneliusMcGee

Congratulations for stating the obvious! :D

But a 30 second-preview online doesn't define a song to me. I want to listen to all of it before I make a decision. And, I dunno, give the artist the benefit of the doubt and support them? If they suck, they suck; if they rock, they rock. Regardless, I'm entitled to my opinion, as are you. :D

p.s. I still love THIS album, all the way. <3

  • So, so Profound!

  • I grew up listening to this album. I was 10 when it came out. One of the best times in my life. My parents had gotten divorced and when I was feelin down I would play this record till the grooves were so deep I had to put a penny on the arm. Thanks for posting.

  • Stevie is a master craftsman.

  • this is like "I Will Survive" with er balls!

  • bangin' !!

  • There is no ordinary pain. Pain is Pain. Stevie is beyond words. A true artist in every respect!

  • "...but then I blew you out the box,

when I put my stuff on key and lock"

  • ESTA CANCION TIENE UN MONTON DE COSAS, YO NO LO ENTIENDO TODO....LITERALMENTE, CLARO...PERO SIENTO LA CANCION THIS SONG HAS LOTTA THINGS, ICAN´T GET EVERYTHING IT SAYS, BUT .....I FEEL THE SONG REALL....MMMM..GOOOOD

  • This was my favorite from this album.Been a while since I have given this a listen.

  • Song In the Key of Life and all Stevie Wonder songs are so awesome!!

  • The background vocals are awesome.

  • Props to Ms. Shirley Brewer, she absolutely NAILS this performance. It really brings the whole thing together.

  • Stevie was speaking from experience and from his heart on this song! Me Too

  • Minnie Riperton, Mary Lee Whitney, Deniece Williams, Syreeta Wright are listed as the back up singers. I would guess it is a young Deniece Williams or Syreeta Wright who are singing that part. Minnie Ripertons voice is much too distinctive from theirs for it to be her

  • @nasir707070

I just listened to "your kiss is sweet" by Syreeta and I think it is she who's giving it to him here lol

  • @nasir707070 If you're referring to the reply. It's Shirley Brewer

  • love this one 2

  • 2 lifeless people have never experienced an ordinary pain in their hearts...i feel deeply sorry for them, lol....stevie makes that ordinary pain feel too damn nice, though!

  • Lol, 2 years ago I realized it was more than just an ordinary pain...

  • The album that shaped my musical life for ever.. I was 11 years old and that was 37 years ago already :) Thank God for sending such an angel in the world and in my lifetime YAY!!

  • Haha, those two have no show, they'll be dealt with when Stevie's spirit hits em like a Mack truck.

  • Stevie and em' murked this one! One of the best entertainers to walk God's greens.

  • Come on man....do you see who's on backgrounds. You got Minnie Riperton, Deneice Williams, and Syreeta Wright? That's a trinity in itself. Heaven in music can't get no better than this :-)

  • THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER STEVIE WONDER, IN MY LIFE TIME GOD HAS BLESS ME, WITH THE SOULFUL SMOOTH MUSIC OF STEVIE.

  • Different interpretations of a loving relationship, got to go through pain to appreciate happiness

  • Happy Belated Birthday to Stevie Wonder, and my son, who share the same birthdate and name 5/13!

  • You know....I would like to meet and speak in depth with the two douchebags who dislike this song!!!!

  • @Rahxn 3 douchebags...

  • @Rahxn dont know who you are.reckon those douchbags wouldnt understand.quality.

  • @Rahxn 3 douchebags. And no, I'm not the 3rd. I'm the 696th.

  • @Rahxn Would you rather not have a party with the 704 people who like it?

  • I absolutely LOVE the reply from the female on this song!

  • Michael, I am so glad you sampled from the best!!! Cause both of you guys to me have always been really really BAD!!! From one child prodigy to the next!! EPIC!!

  • Such a soothing soul, thanks to the universe for giving us Mr Wonderful for the time we have him. Love you Stevie darling.

  • This song makes me feel understood.

  • Note how at about 2:45 it goes from a great song to one of the best ever.

  • @craimo1411 Right?! :-D

  • the album was just WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY toooo ahead of its time.

  • @tofelt Stevie Wonder's entire 70's oeuvre was ahead of its time.

  • @merlynwise im SURE, after i look up that word (oeuvre), that i would agree with you!

  • i love this shit and so does my mom

  • probably his best album.........songs in the key of life.....

  • One of the greatest albums of all time. Stevie won many awards and accolades for this album, but it was under rated. Rivals Michael Jackson's Thriller in great

    musical content in my opinion.

  • Love both the male and femaile part. Two different sides to the romance. So true in life.

  • I love this song and the lyrics are awesome. She lets him have it in the second part of this song.

  • Man what a group of female backup, Minnie, Syreeta, Deniece!!

If you've seen any of Stevie's first "videos" when he was a teen, he was playing drums in a couple, along with harmonica, that I remember.

  • @fieldofrock The ladies BLOW THE ROOF OFF THE JOYNT. Man, that turnaround at 2:46 gives me goosebumps every time. Awesome.

  • @victorianswoon me toooooo!

  • I got the vinyl of this when it first came out. Birthday present from my buddies (thanks!) for my 17th.

  • whoever disliked this just dont know real music, when u can understand real music then come back

  • A necessary pain in your heart. TRUTH!!

  • who was the lady singing ?

    rob

  • i love the transition in this

  • Didn't know Stevie played the drums in this track?

  • @Rattenhoofd he didnt the description is wrong

  • @ScratchyDJ...He did, Stevie played all the instruments in this song

  • @gmccall22 he didnt i have an original press of this on vinyal and he didnt play the drums he not listed as the player of all instruments and is not listed as the drummer

  • @ScratchyDJ

"Ordinary Pain" (Wonder) – 6:16 * Mike Sembello—lead guitar * Hank Redd—alto saxophone * All other instruments—Stevie Wonder * Minnie Riperton, Mary Lee Whitney, Deniece Williams, Syreeta Wright—background vocals * Shirley Brewer—reply * Linda Lawrence, Terri Hendricks, Sundray Tucker, Charity McCrary, Madelaine Jones—reply's background vocals

  • @subg88 Shirley's talking "cash trash" !!!

  • @ScratchyDJ...According to wikipedia, Stevie plays all other instruments....You say he didn't play the drums, but what you're failing to say is who did play the drums. You're merely assuming it's not Stevie on drums....

  • @gmccall22 He did play the drums, and he played them damn gracefully.

  • @gmccall22 ur using wikipedia as a viable source of infomation im going to email motown

  • @ScratchyDJ..Yes Wikipedia ! How can you say Stevie didn't play the drums, and can't say who did ?

  • Just responding to some comments tht Ive seen from time to time. Sure theres GREAT music today as well. Music evolves but someitmes regresses. Back in the day, even if it was commercial, it was more genuine. Even the sound was purer. Its not just nostalgia. Everybody DIDNT have 15 min of fame cuz only the very best-or ppl with really good connections or luck made it.The rest you never got to hear...Think thts wht ppl mean whn they compare todays music with yesterday...Andy Warhol was rite imo.

  • The section that starts @ 2:51 reminds me of Micheal Jacksons song Bad.

  • This song is good and if you wish to reply attacking me for what I said below that means that your one of those people I'm talking about otherwise you would agree or wouldn't care.

  • I love how on every song I go to how people bitch about the same things day in and day out as if the music industry is going to magically change because of their 1 opinion.lol people are ridiculous if you hate todays music fine just don't listen but please don't go on every video bitching and living in the past because the past is GONE obviously the majority of people like the music that's out otherwise it wouldn't be out I hate to sound mean but get over it because none of us want to hear it!

  • @keepingitreal15 who are you to step on my memories... someday you'll look back too, and say wow ,remember that, it was great then......

  • absolutely brilliant....

  • Help me recover from my break ups in a New York minute.

  • I never heard the very end of this song til like two years ago.. my dad used to cut it off back in the day.. on the record player.. it skipped so much. lol

  • Go tell your story sob-sad.....about you blowing what you had

Since one ain't good enough for you.........then do yourself, see how you do!

    Oooorrrrrddd-din-narrrrr-rrrry Pain

    Ord-din-nary Pain!

She went all the way in! Stevie is the greatest!

  • Acknowledge it, roll with it, weep with it, walk on. What a long, strange trip this is. love.

  • When I saw him on Larry King,...I was thinking, We are so fortunate that he is going strong! I will soak it all in and appreciate him now!! I wished that my Mom listened to Stevie and not just Roger Wittaker and Andy Williams :))

  • THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HARDEST BRIDGE/BREAKDOWN EVER!!!!!!

  • @biggcoopp Indeed.

  • do you remember what it felt like when your heart was broken?i think this song captures the essence

  • @dkr1963..Yeah I remember vividly . Contemplated suicide. Premeditating murder, practicing my alibi over and over . Drank myself into an alcoholic coma. Don't think this song quite captures it for me buddy

  • @gmccall22 i hear you...you were hurting but you did get thru it and i truely hope you recovered from it

  • @dkr1963..Fully recovered . I did get a beautiful daughter out of it...Thanks buddy

  • @gmccall22 some of our hardest issues can bring on the best outcome only we can't see it at the time...you have been blessed...way to go!!!!!

  • Johnniewalker23, thanks for uploading this and all of the other Stevie Wonder jams. The large amount of time it must have taken you to do so is majorly appreciated. The audio quality is most excellent!

  • necessary pain

  • I'd give an arm and a leg to do a duet/ record a song with Stevie. True legend!!

  • BEFORE this man leaves this earth, their needs to be a major worldwide tribute. Programs for people to attend locally and then a grand finale' and on that grand finale day, all radio stations should play his music non-stop from Sun up to sun down. So these youngin's can really learn something about music!

  • @nawmmbr you are so right love it the souls are so lost today

  • @videomaster113 - Thank you!

  • @nawmmbr superb idea!

  • @nawmmbr Please don't assume all "youngin's" like the crap that exists in the music industry today. I am a "youngin" and loath every song I've heard from this century.

  • @nawmmbr great idea

  • I was 18 in 1976 and can tell you that alongside Mr. Robert Nesta Marley, Mr. Steveland Wonderful is the best Musican Man the 70's had! His sound is classic and will live forever in the hearts of the old bodies who remember what being young in the 70's was all about! Much love. Much love.

  • @nawmmbr Stevie Wonder has already composed a piece that was inducted into the Library of Congress back in 2009. The song...is amazing!!!!

  • @nawmmbr agreed

  • @nawmmbr Agreed. They need to make a movie about his life like they did with Ray

  • @EMMoney8806 Who do you think should play Stevie?

  • @nawmmbr I dont even know....I know a lot of ppl said when I put on my aviators, I look like him during his late teen years. But Im not as skinny as he was. But Im not famous either, although I want to play him so bad. But I saw a video with Eddie Murphy and Stevie, and Eddie looked just like Stevie. But that was years ago. I kno of some other famous ppl that might be good playing him, but not too many

  • @EMMoney8806 Eddie would be good!!!! Jamie Foxx nailed it when he played Ray Charles. Even Ray Charles' voice! Jamie's impression of Ray Charles was scary it was so good. Either one, I believe would do a great job!

  • jamie foxx
