Get on google and translate a few of the words. You will find they are cuts of pork meat. The dotted lines represent (roughly) where a pig would be butchered. That's why it's pink, and obviously that's why it's called the pink pig.
The reason they painted it like this is because this body work was the result of a private french firm (SEMA) being hired to do extensive aero testing. This was the body that resulted. When the press saw it they said it was portly and called it "the pig". The name stuck and it was painted in this livery. It ran one race and was running as high as third place when it was retired due to mechanical issues. It never ran again due to rule changes.
This paint was a joke by the porsche mechanics. The french have nothing to do with it. Actually, they did not even nickname the car "pink big", but "big bertha".
Martini, who was the team's sponsor, didn't want it's logo to appear of the car because of they feared it would backfire on their image. Again, nothing todo with the french.
The machanics of Porsche built it. Its Shorter than the Longtail, and longer than the Shorttail. and the mechanics sayed that thats a "schweinerei" (swinihness) so they callt this typ " Rosa Sau" (Pink Pig)....
Apparently this car generated some nasty wind turbulence behind it because of the shape, which apparently had a habit of knocking the other cars around when it passed them.
If i had a girl, i think she would like this as a gift

The word "Schwanz" which is written on the vertical tail, has some interesting connotations in German...

Alan De Cadenet said this body design created such turbulence that when it passed him it literally blew his car off the course.

Ever thought a cute little piglet could be as intimidating as this one?

Why the hell did they paint that amazing car like THAT!?!?!
Davidthorough 2 years ago
cause the french wouldn't let them sponsor the car or something... they painted it to make a statement to the french. Google it or something.

It's really nice to see the Zuffenhausen Truffle Pig close up. I have previously only seen this car in photos and models.

It's reassuring to know that at least 1 person at Porsche had a good sense of humor.
