"Strawberry Blonde" is the epitome of what a movie should be and Jimmy Cagney is responsible for so much great cinema....and Mandy ain't bad either...super sensational, titanic!
January 1986, down in San Diego, he walked out of a grocery store one night with some woman, I was like Mandy Patinkin! Hello!? What a sweet guy, very gracious, very nice. I had him begging off, I was getting downright flirty, but I love embarrassing stars, I upstage 'em every time. C'mon, look, they aren't brain surgeons, they play them. But ya gotta love Mandy, I mean what about that name, Mandy? Oh please. This guy sings like someone poured olive oil down a velvet throated sock-puppet.
great believable emotional lonesome singing full of yearning with a very good complementing and appropriate simple accompaniment.. i never get tired listening to this record but do get quite sad at the end..
The piano player is Paul Ford... AMAZING PLAYER and vocal coach. He was my vocal coach in NY (manhattan School of Music) and he also plays on Broadway in most of Sondheim's musicals.
I saw him sing this medley on tv when I was a kid. I went to the library and copied the music and to this day it's still my favorite song. I LOVE YOU MANDY!
And don't forget.. he is Inigo Montoya from THE PRINCESS BRIDE... LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT
He wasn't on CSI or Law and order. He was on Criminal minds, left the show though. He doesn't condone violence on tv. He made the show though. Fantastic actor and vocalist.
Last I heard, he was touring with Patti Lupone in the U.S. Was going to try and catch it until I broke my foot. Maybe next time. Would love to see them together.
he actually plays a deep-voiced reaper in the show "Dead Like Me" hes a very enchanting actor, the kinda guy u feel like you know to the point ur comfortable with
I love Mandy Patinkin's voice, whether he is acting or singing. He is one super talented guy. I also love to hear him singing Rock a Bye Your Baby and Mammy. I could listen to him forever!
I worship Mandy. The most magnificent voice, male or female, of the past twenty years. The "Casey" medley is his masterpiece and has moved me to tears many, many times but my favorites, however, are "Take Me to the World" and "Rock-a-Bye Your Baby With a Dixie Melody". One of the highlights of my life was sitting in the second row in a concert he gave in Miami in the early '90s, where, like a teen-age girl at a Beatles concert, my tears flowed.
I love his face when he's singing this. You know what's so great about Mandy? He is feeling what he sings. You believe he's really singing what he feels. I get caught up in what he's singing and it gives me goosebumps. He's an amazing singer and very talented. Thank you for posting this. I needed to hear this today.
it is very nice of you to put down the sources of the medley. it helps me appreciate the pieces more. patinkin's performance is indescribably wonderful. it is that style i would have wished to have if God granted me the gift of singing - which unfortunately did not happen.i still have patinkin to listen to.
Every time I listen to Mandy Patinkin singing it touches something deep down inside of me and I'm moved to tears. He has the same effect when I watch him in Criminal Minds

This medley contains excerpts from the following songs:
"The Band Played On" dedicated to the "New York Sunday World" (Palmer/Ward, 1895),
"Mary" from the studio album "Good Old Boys" by Randy Newman (1974),
"Once Upon A Time" from the musical "All American" (Charles Strouse/Lee Adams, 1962)
