The B747-8 can fly almost as far as the A380 with little more than 50 tonnes of fuel savings. A380 needs 310,000 litres of fuel to fly 15,200 km. The 747-8 needs only 248,900 litres of fuel to fly 14,815 km. Of course, they carry less passengers (about 60 passengers less) but the fuel savings make it very attractive as well as its adaptability to existing airports without really needing to upgrade anything. But in all, A380 and 747 are cool aircrafts! They suit different routes.

During the serious engine incident with Quantas (uncontained failure) the A380 held up amazingly well and landed safely. Such failures have caused plenty of death before - United DC-10 in the late 80s, in the 90s a passenger was killed in a DC-9 prior to take-off, won't even discuss the LOT IL-62 crashes. Point is, the A380 remained controllable and landed after a catastrophic event - now that's a safe plane

@LottoWinner999 Noone said an uncontained engine failure is a minor incident. It is a very serious issue, but it's an issue with RR, not Airbus. Engines are not meant to explode, but in this case that happened and the aircraft handled it easily and remained fully controllable even besides the damage and torn wing. That this was a lucky save only because of factors other than the solid engineering on the A380 is not based on any facts and is nothing but wishful thinking.

It can also come with an Engine Alliance powerplant, just like a lot if not most 747s are powered by RR. Cathaydude9 The A380 will flop, it would merely be following in a long tradition. Without Airbus, Boeing would have a complete monopoly over large commercial aircraft. Whatever happens, it is inconceivable that the French would let Airbus fail. As President Chirac said of the A380 at its roll-out in Toulouse "This veritable ocean liner of the sky will go down in history like the Concorde." Perhaps not the best of analogies, but you know what he was trying to say.
I don't understand why the A350 is going to be more efficient than the 787 if both planes will carry the same powerplant. It only makes sence if Airbus will shave weight from the structure. Perhaps bigger fuel tanks will give the A350 the edge. I hope profit doesn't overrule safety for EADS!
Here are a few reasons why this project will be v. successful. 1) Airbus have learnt much from the very, very ambitious A380 project. 2) The launch, in a few years, is better timing for obvious reasons. 3) All 350 variants can be covered with one engine type - saves on v. expensive re-designing of aircraft and engine. That must be cheaper for both Airbus, the airlines and hopefully - us.

seems the 787 has a bit of trouble ever making its 1st commercial flight.. what was it Boeing said a month ago (already 1 year late)? The A358 and A359 will be equipped with double bogies. The A350-1000 and the A359R (That's an ER version of the -900) will be fitted with triple bogies.

The A380 is the ultimate aircraft because of its advanced aerodynamics and systems that's why it climbs so quickly and has improved fresh and clean environment. This will be bigger and longer than the 777(except for the 800 series) it is built on the A380 experience, its like and A380 only with no second deck that's why it is oblong but soon merged the A330 idea that's it has a round fuselage now, the cockpit windows are similar to the A380 only its in the form of a super cool window.
Wrong, the 777-300ER which can accomodate 10 abreast seating can carry more people with more cargo then the A350 which can only be set as 9 abreast because its fuselage. The A350XWB fuselage width is between the 787 and 777.

The B747-8 can fly almost as far as the A380 with little more than 50 tonnes of fuel savings. A380 needs 310,000 litres of fuel to fly 15,200 km. The 747-8 needs only 248,900 litres of fuel to fly 14,815 km. Of course, they carry less passengers (about 60 passengers less) but the fuel savings make it very attractive as well as its adaptability to existing airports without really needing to upgrade anything. But in all, A380 and 747 are cool aircrafts! They suit different routes.

This was possible because of the sophisticated flight control system, which also made it possible for him to have the wings perfectly level, which was exceptionally crucial in a water landing. Of course S-berger was smart enough to turn the APU on and gets credit.

@LottoWinner999 Um wrong again, Lufthansa have a huge airbus fleet, including the a380. During the serious engine incident with Quantas (uncontained failure) the A380 held up amazingly well and landed safely. Such failures have caused plenty of death before - United DC-10 in the late 80s, in the 90s a passenger was killed in a DC-9 prior to take-off, won't even discuss the LOT IL-62 crashes. Point is, the A380 remained controllable and landed after a catastrophic event - now that's a safe plane

@VWaudiRULEs They were lucky + Quantas is pissed off + sueing Airbus + Rolls Royce cuz the paid Singapore Airlines to keep quite about the defective Trent Engines + they want to return A380's they bought. Look at the pictures that engine exploded + knocked the outboard + passengers said the wing was tearing + leaking fuel. It was not a minor incident + if it had not been close to the airport all the passengers would be dead. BTW RR is replacing 40 engines on the 10 A380s Quantas purchased.

@LottoWinner999 Noone said an uncontained engine failure is a minor incident. It is a very serious issue, but it's an issue with RR, not Airbus. Engines are not meant to explode, but in this case that happened and the aircraft handled it easily and remained fully controllable even besides the damage and torn wing. That this was a lucky save only because of factors other than the solid engineering on the A380 is not based on any facts and is nothing but wishful thinking.

@LottoWinner999 Qantas has the right to be pissed off with RR, but the A380 really proved its safety and high quality of engineering. It can also come with an Engine Alliance powerplant, just like a lot if not most 747s are powered by RR. If you wanna talk about bad engineering, I suggest discussing the exploding cargo doors on DC-10s and 747s, exploding central fuel tanks, as well as the rudder hardovers on 737s, which caused 3 accidents with 100% fatality and one close miss.

The existing evidence clearly shows the aircraft impacted the water in one piece, most likely due to a stall. If there was a problem with the stabs, the fleet would have been grounded. There are plenty of Airbus drivers in the US, but none of them seem to have any concern regarding safety.

I don't understand why the A350 is going to be more efficient than the 787 if both planes will carry the same powerplant. It only makes sence if Airbus will shave weight from the structure. Perhaps bigger fuel tanks will give the A350 the edge. I hope profit doesn't overrule safety for EADS!

Here are a few reasons why this project will be v. successful. 1) Airbus have learnt much from the very, very ambitious A380 project. 2) The launch, in a few years, is better timing for obvious reasons. 3) All 350 variants can be covered with one engine type - saves on v. expensive re-designing of aircraft and engine. That must be cheaper for both Airbus, the airlines and hopefully - us.

not being a dick or anything but how does ur size waist fit in all this i just clearly said that i think the 777 will still sell better than the a350 and lets be honest the a350 will still not be out until 2013 so i hope they still have those customers and i think that emirates,qantas and singapore needs to go to hell they are the one pressuring both airbus and boeing to create the 787-1000 and the a350

seems the 787 has a bit of trouble ever making its 1st commercial flight.. what was it Boeing said a month ago (already 1 year late)? Oh.. we have some STRUCTURAL issues to deal with = stripping the fuselage down and working at some things from zero = more money = more cancelled deadlines = more embarrassment even more so when A350 that is yet to fly at all seems to many airlines like a good option. Boeing and Airbus are both GREAT planes guys...

The A358 and A359 will be equipped with double bogies. The A350-1000 and the A359R (That's an ER version of the -900) will be fitted with triple bogies.

ok im a huge boeing fan but i have to say that the 777 will still sell better than the airbus350.yes its larger than the 787 but smaller than the 777 and all 777 can go up to a 10 abreast seating a350 can only go to 9 abreast.yes i think the a350 avionics is very spectacular but still it will not sell as the 777 and 787 and definelty the a350-1000 will not be better than the 777-300ER cause of the same thing just watch and i know people will disagree with me but we wll see and BOEING ALL THE WAY

dont understand why you even posted your comment you are obviously a boeing fan just because the plane can fit 10 abreast dosnt mean anything ek are the only ones that do it and let me tell you i only have a 32 ince waist and it was a very tight fit so i dont think that is the selling point the a350 will sell becace its more effeicent and will have better tecnoligy i love the 77 but like every plane all good things do come to a end

The A380 is the ultimate aircraft because of its advanced aerodynamics and systems that's why it climbs so quickly and has improved fresh and clean environment. This will be bigger and longer than the 777(except for the 800 series) it is built on the A380 experience, its like and A380 only with no second deck that's why it is oblong but soon merged the A330 idea that's it has a round fuselage now, the cockpit windows are similar to the A380 only its in the form of a super cool window.

Wrong, the 777-300ER which can accomodate 10 abreast seating can carry more people with more cargo then the A350 which can only be set as 9 abreast because its fuselage. The A350XWB fuselage width is between the 787 and 777.

The seating configuration like 9 seats in a row. Common configurations on planes are 2 4 2(= 8 abreast) or 3 4 3.

Thx, but there was a question in my head, why cant they just make 2 5 2, it still makes 9 seats and it good for both family of 2,3 and 4. They just have to make 3 3 3
