  • I have been listening to this song at least once a week for the past 7 years and have not gotten tired of it. If that's not saying something about its greatness then I don't know what would. This is music.

  • See under: "squirting"

  • the bassist is so good

  • Great, now I have to search through all these comments to find hailung23's ignorant comment...

  • @1104zion easier way.... hit the "see all " comments button, then hit ctrl f, then you just type in that persons user name & it searches for you!!!!

  • @shalynn77 I was being facetious. I don't plan on looking. Ever. But thanks.

  • biz brought me here for the inventor of panty soup

  • mr lamontagne you are quite simply AWESOME !!!!

  • His voice is... Oh my God...

  • so much damn emotion, his voice makes me want to cry

  • This reminds me of the intro to "Father and Son" by Cat Stevens. Ray is Cat Stevens, the Beatles, Joe Cocker, Townes VanZandt, Van Morrison....all rolled up in something wonderful. All that and a bag of chips!

  • Touching song .Thanks for uploading.

  • when you discover his and your own perception of emotion as he whispers across, you cant help but get lost in space, words without letters wordlessly suited, a sense that phrase and rhyme reveils itself to each and every listener. All of his material has meaning. Great song writer

  • hell of a song

  • yo, this her song? fekin awsum!!!!! hought he covered only

  • this song warms my soul in every way.

  • He is an angel.

  • he must've taken some voice lessons at a monastery in tibet before this concert. Every version is AMAZINGLY different, vocally spectacular, and so peaceful.

  • this man wrecks me every single damn time... hurts so good

  • this song is the cure for cancer

  • Comment removed

  • I could listen to him sing all day long. His voice gives me peace

  • One of the greatest ....real music with this guy......makes ur heart sing.....god bless this man with ...a voice from his soul.....

  • Thank you Ray.

  • hell yeah, i heard that!

  • just found him but love his sound

  • EPIC!

  • He's the Stienbeck of songer writers.

  • He is probably the only artist I would pay to see..

  • I have loved Ray forever. But I like other artists too. I don't get why some of you are wasting your time judging other people about other artists they like. Let them like other artists. It doesn't matter what this person thinks about Lady Gaga. Maybe if you looked beyond her music and anything that bothers you, you'll understand her message. If you still don't like her, then leave it at that. We're here for Ray and that's all that matters right now. Stop typing, relax, and enjoy the music.

  • This song speaks to me more than his lyrics say. More than one night like this.

  • check out hunter johnson "the white roads of heaven"

  • a picture of you holdin a picture of me, in the pocket of my blue jeans.

great image, just the best line ever.

  • This song makes me proud to have the name Jolene

  • @jolene9292 Hi Jolene! I Love You.

  • This makes me believe in "new" music.

  • music without autotune? is that EVEN possible?

  • Love it bro...been there many a time....When i was learning the guitar, I would practice this song ---singing it was real

  • He grabs your heart, a Stienbeck of singer/songwriters. Nobody like him.

  • Beautiful, real music, real musician, he doesn't need props because his voice and talent are real not fake. I could listen to this all day and night.

  • wow you can cant even here a pin drop

  • where is this?

  • Absolutley beautiful and brilliant but on the other hand you can feel his pain through his music.

  • Holy hell.. first time I've heard this song.. absolutely beautiful

Also, first video I've ever seen on youtube without any thumbs down!

  • Beautiful

  • omg 0 dislikes....amazing!!! such a lovely song....

  • wow i came accross this song through the zac brown band and let me tell u this version is so much more moveing then the zac brown one, this gives me goose bumps everytime i hear it. great singer great song

  • Why does his voice make me want to cry? So Nice!!!

  • @tiara1522 Because there is PAIN and UNDERSTANDING in it girl. What more is there is us to connect to? That's all that makes the world go round..... just to 'connect' to each other, somehow...

  • One of the true songs I've ever heard in my life, I'm 35, and have lived life to the fullest in every way you can imagine, but Ray, you struck a chord brother, so much so that I decided to pick up a guitar, and start working out my own truths through the idea of romanticsm, keeping doing you thind man.....

  • His voice, his face....feel like home

  • He looks like Jesus...

  • @TheHansFredriksen HE IS lol

  • this song gives me shivers. touches the soul

  • HO-LY fuck this is powerful

  • his music is so beautifull

  • is there a dvd of this?

  • I actually believe him when he says "still don't know what love means"! Not like that fluffy version that the Zac Brown Band put out. This is honest songwriting and performance!

  • i was there that night!! im the one on the stage with the guitar and beard

  • I was lucky enough to see him shortly after the release of "Trouble" just Ray and a stand up bass player in a small room sold out to around 30 people. I noticed a few girls crying when he played. It was dead silence when he played and a pause after each song before the audience could even digest what they just heard.

  • i dont think its even right to compare him to any artist at all... He is too unique&honest. It doesnt make sense to me to compare him to anyone.

  • better than Nickle bark. bahaha

  • Love it :) I have been addicted to Ray's music lately. He is such a talented singer songwriter.

  • saw ray live a few weeks back and he is a true performer with deep beautiful lyrics.....i haven't enjoyed a live performance like his in quite some time...wish I could listen to him play a long set...he keeps it real

  • where was this at??

  • Ray is so pure in his music.

    Take it, and cry

  • did he originally write this song?

  • I'd give one of my boobs to be there.. Ok, two.

    No.. all three.

  • Wow, some of the comments are pretty intense. Ray Lamontagne is a great singer songwriter, and so as Damien Rice. And btw, Damien Rice's 9 is a great freaking album. Some will say O is better and some will say 9. Either way, it's great stuff. Ray's great, Damien's great! Peace!

  • I love listening to his songs when it's raining...:]

  • @themarycity right its like it calms u,or at least makes u drift for a while

  • @themarycity yeah i would have removed that comment too!!!!!

  • @hailung23 no offense...but you're kinda a douche! :]

  • @themarycity no offense but you are a lil bitch. Now grow up. Maybe when and if you do, music isnt to be put in boxes, and certainly not behind fake walls. Nothing says wasted youth like fake faux elites

  • Music for the soul.

  • this man and his music is so true and honest. when i hear it i have no questions

  • I swear only Ray and Damien Rice are making great music now a days. Rays such a talented singer song writer. I only wish more listened to true artist like him, instead of garbage like lady gaga

  • Agreed to some extent but there's also Matthew Santos. He's damn good, very beautiful voice and writes deadly lyrics much like Ray.

  • never heard of the guy, so thank you! always looking for new music.

  • @hailung23 damien rice is a hack, he has produced one good album and two pieces of crap, ray has created 3 masterpiecesof albums and is deeper and stronger than rice, only that hes not irish he'd be more famous. ray is a king rice has nothing on him

  • @dsingo Damiean Rice has two full disc, O and 9. Of course you have a right to your opinions and all, but i disagree. I will continute to enjoy both artist. Have a good week

  • @hailung23 ye but O was stunning then 9 was quite poor i felt, not nearly as good as anything ray has done. although i greatly appreciate that you havent resorted to the normal youtube style arguing. good day to you

  • @dsingo Hey no need to trash someone because they dont share your opinion. I think Ray's a incredible talent, while i dont think "Trouble" is on the level of "O", i do agree that "9" isnt as good as "O". I didnt fine "9" poor, just that as good as "O". I really enjoy "Till the Sun Goes Black", but "Gossip in the Grain" was just ok for me. But i hope both these artist continue making great music! Hey great chat friend, hope your day was a good one

  • Comment removed

  • @dsingo calling damien rice a hack is absolutely ridiculous. what do you have to say shit like that? everyone has a right to their own opinion, & your opinion is stupid. i'm not even a big fan of his or anything, i just hate when people talk shit about people who make original, thoughtful music these days while playing instruments and not singing through a computer. have some respect, snob.

  • @SkotNewbower ye well i actually am a fan of rice's, and think that O was one of the best albums of the past decade. he's a hack because since then he has not come close to producing the same level of beauty or artistry of that album but has rather faded into obscurity behind a bad b-sides album and an average followup album, whereas ray has had three top quality albums and continues to tour worldwide. as for snob? grow up and leae the name calling behind......

  • @SkotNewbower you say everyone has a right to their own opinion then decry mine???? what sort of a schmuck are you. grow the hell up. look at the comments after it why can't you be polite and argue and differentiate without resorting to being an a-hole?

  • Comment removed

  • @themarycity no offense, but good music is for all. the whole "iam so indie" or this or that artist is "indie" is just a farce. enjoy the music

  • Comment removed

  • @hailung23, agree 1000%...ray and damien are the only ones making music nowadays that give me chills. i can't stand the crap on the radio. if i hear another whining, breathy, poppy, boy-band influenced zit-faced punk (I'm talking to you, Justin Bieber) warbling through my speakers, I just might stab both my ears with knitting needles.

  • @hailung23 you know lady gaga writes her own songs. Her songs sound the way they do due to her producer. Yeah, she allows it cause she knows it will be more commercial and make more money, but she is good song writer. I guess her flaw is selling out. And yeah, her lyrics are simple, but catchy. She's at least better than people like Brittany Spears who relies on others to write her songs. Youtube Old Lady gaga when she plays solo, you'll get a hint of her originality

  • @JCjams I wouldn't call her stuff lyrics, as they are random phrases thrown together...

  • @indiemusicreview Dude...She's still a human being.

  • @hailung23 If you want excellent music try Peter Bradley Adams, Joe Purdy, Joe Pug, Matthew Ryan, Steve Reynolds, Matthew Perryman Jones, shoot the list goes on for miles!

  • @hailung23 Amen my friend...Artists who bear the souls on their sleeves...thats what this ole' world needs...

  • @hailung23 Don't forget about David Gray!

  • @hailung23 david gray?

  • @hailung23 you should look up Joe Purdy, he is amazing as well (especially the version of Canyon Joe that they have on here) :-)

  • @hailung23 That's the problem!! People are too easily sucked into s**t like Lady Gaga! Real Artists don't get the credit they deserve...

  • @hailung23 thats so funny that you say that. i just recently starting getting into ray lamontagne and damien rice at the same time. i watched the movie The Town and Closer right after each other and both movies ended with each of these artists in the credits. funny thing is, is that i'm a huge lady gaga fan. i believe in order for someone to understand music... well, you have to see it from every artists' side and believe that there is something in the message of everyone's music. i enjoy all 3!

  • @vincentxdu good job man!! nicely said :-)

  • @hailung23 and bon iver

  • @ebw0812 yes yes yes. justin vernon and co. create stunning music.

  • @hailung23

I agree with you COMPLETELY. but also, you should check out Glen Hansard if you like ray and Damien. In fact, Damien and Glen are good friends and collaborators. I HIGHLY recommend Glen Hansard (of the Frames and The Swell Season, and the main actor in the movie "Once") if you like this kind of music.

  • @hailung23 personally i feel lady gaga does make great music, yes its pop, electro, dance or whatever you want to call it but her voice is amazing and beautiful and when she strips back her songs so its just her and a piano its amazing. and before i recieve any nasty backlash about commenting on lady gaga yes i am a fan of her but im also a fan of ray and damien too!!!!

  • @lucylicious1987 I'm a fan of Lady Gaga, but her music is only mediocre... I feel she's selling herself short... becuase I, too, believe she's BEST when it's just her and her piano... She's got great talent, but doesn't use it to the fullest... Just my opinion.

  • @lucylicious1987 *because*

  • @hailung23 bullocks! I agree that lady gaga's ways are .. peculiar, and i get puke tendencies every time Mr Bieber shows his dollface, but there's soooo much awesome shit out there. I bet angus & julia stone, kings of convenience, nick drake, and iron & wine ring a bell? Well, YAY, there's always more of that to discover :D I hope that if you didnt recognise the names before, youll youtube them and see i'm totally right on this one ;)

  • @hailung23 You forgot Ryan Adams, Josh Ritter, and Brett Dennen

  • @theprophetlion You forgot Røyksopp, Kvelertak, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, The Black Keys, The Whitest Boy Alive, Arcade Fire, Alcest, Ulver, Kaizers Orchestra, Wild Nothing, Madrugada, Beck, Cynic are some among the hundreds of artists you forgot to mention.

  • @theprophetlion and you forgot the tallest man on earth, jeffrey foucault, mark erelli, damien jurado and still 20 more...

  • @hailung23 Lady Gaga is great pop. Take it for what it is. Her music is not meant to change your life. Dont compare Ray's music to hers. Its like trying to compare batteries and tennis balls to find out which is better. If you think that only Ray and Damien Rice are making great music, you need to listen to more music. Ray is an amazing artist, but the world is full of artists that you never heard of. Take some time and discover them.

  • @bradsmith72 you know how I know you're gay?

  • @bradsmith72= The truth.

  • @bradsmith72 Nothing is great about Gaga. Compare her with Ray is more akin to comparing God with Satan.

  • @bradsmith72 Probably the best comment i have ever read on the world of YouTube. I'm glad someone has finally said what's been on my mind for years x

  • @bradsmith72 Yes! :-D like Jim Croce!

  • @bradsmith72 Lady Gaga isn't good at anything

  • @bradsmith72 batteries are better.

  • @MakeshiftPatriot1 They charge you with... life!

  • @hailung23 I'll agree with you on the point that Ray is a wonderful singer and songwriter, one of our best today. But if you think Lady Gaga is talentless and not an artist you need to give your head a shake. I enjoy music in all forms and try to recognize talent regardless of genre, shes got plenty of artistic talent.

  • @incubusmun haha, not trying to be a dick, but lady shit head, doesn't write her own music, like many R&B, rap, and pop musicians, there music is written by white producers, hilarious! So don't go giving credibility to someone who doesn't deserve it, by the way there is no talent in saying poker face 40 times in a song, so you should shake your head my fine multi-celled organism.

  • @landers1983 First off, the proper possessive form is "their"...not "there". Secondly, as I said in my previous comment, I look for talent no matter where it comes from or what form it takes. Sure she may not be the lyricist of the century but musically she is a talented performer.

  • @incubusmun Okay my proper use of "their" was off, which is why you shouldn't start smoking pot at an early age like I did. I will give it to you, she can sing, but actors can act, which is all her music is, and act, lacking real emotions and substance. I understand your point, but I would assume someone that listens to Ray Lamontagne, and other artist, would try to separate from the norm, or pop music, and or lack of rock talent, that is running the music scene as we know it.

  • @landers1983 She cannot sing. She can maybe play piano, that's it.

  • @hailung23 and paolo nutini

  • @hailung23 Its people like you who will survive the Zombie Apocalypse.

  • wheew...sounds familiar, I just wished I still had as great as hair too. :)

  • What a beautiful song

  • It dont get much better than this...
