I recognize the genious of Jeff Mills as a DJ and producer, but this video has nothing impressive about it, sorry. All he does is move some faders and knobs which seem to change nothing in what's happening. The drum loop changes very little thtoughout the song and most of the work is done by the orchestra. I think it would be much better if he was doing some turntabling or maybe messing around with MIDI controllers and launching samples.

Faktycznie mega zajebiste jest ta muzyka techno. Czym to się różni od muzyki techno w klubach? Tym że jest podłożone pod orkiestrę? Czy tym że Murzyn zamiast odpalić podkład z winampa, udaje że coś tworzy?
Prawdziwą muzyką jest dubstep <3 ... no dobra, przesadziłem, ale nie ma to jak posłuchać dubstepu na naprawdę konkretnym sprzęcie. A prawdziwą muzyką jest rock.
Muzyka jest muzyką. Jeśli zamykacie się z klapkami na oczach i mimo wszystko słuchacie ciągle tego samego, to nigdy nie poznacie innych brzmień. Można czegoś nie lubić, ale nie powinno się mówić, że jest gówniane, bo na przykład ten utwór to małe dzieło, wymagające ogromnych zdolności i chociaż mnie nie porywa, to jestem świadomy tego, jak wielkiego nakładu pracy wymagał.

@zulowski Haha "30 seconds to mars" to najgorsze pseudoalternatywne ścierwo jakie może być, faktycznie twój gust jest prymitywny i rozumiem, że zadowalasz się jakimiś bandami dla buntowniczych nastolatek, jednak nie będę cię nakłaniał do słuchania prawdziwego arcydzieła muzycznego bo to nie ma sensu w twoim przypadku, trudno wymagać rozróżniania poziomów muzycznych, od kogoś takiego jak ty.
Love it! I've known & loved this track for many years. To see it done with full orchestral strings, brass, woodwind, percussion et al - superb! Must of been such a coup for Jeff Mills to play alongside them and vice versa. The orchestra must rarely get a chance to go way off classical music into something as housey as this. Excellent. Lx
Well i think they're all hating because they're not techno fans and can't appreciate what everybody else seems to. We're not stupid, we know that an orchestra isn't meant to do that kind of music in the first and that's why it's so awesome. If you can't get that then go back to listening to classic music and being arrogant with each others.

Well, being a musician I know it's a matter of taste, but for me, it was flat & boring. I expected something interesting from the bells, but it never happened. & yes, a real lack of melody except for one or two places. Repetition of the strings etc in the second minute or so had me ready to yawn-it evoked no emotion at all. Maybe this is a case of, "You had to be there", & it the sounds were no doubt more compelling in person-but frankly, the audience seemed unimpressed also. Empty & pretentious

Alas-I fear the real explanation is that, as our society/civilization/species goes down the tubes, aesthetic appreciation, intelligence, melody etc are going w/ it. That, and/or non-musicians are way too easily impressed, & taken in by the "atmosphere"/theatre of the production, so decide it's good because there's a big, cool stage w/lots of different instruments, doing strange things!
@bookguitarguy You Sir should live up to your words. In the first place it is a mater of taste. For people coming from the machine-trance world, this is a highly impressive interpretation of the original tune "The Bells". It's well done and well performed. Given, that the bells could have played a better role - they are somehow lacking the trance-way they have in the original track - still, their original purpose (including the disharmonics) was well spread amongst the whole orchestra. thumbs up

Jeff Mills kicked my ass last night at Smart Bar, amazing set. He is awesome. Also caught Massive Attack at the Riviera they also put on a great show.
you could laugh at the absurdity of the juxtaposition, but this arrangement is actually much more interesting to listen to than most of the modern classical music this kind of orchestra would usually be playing... a nice arrangement by the arranger Jeff worked with.. it does sound silly with the drum machine, it doesn't need it!
If he learned how to play drums and used his 808(that is the drum machine right?) he would sound better. Why does he need all the mixers if the other musicians don't use them?
@numanuma20 TR 909 is the machine. funny thing is 1/4 part of the machine is samples. and you hear it on almost any house, techno, dance, trance track.
@numanuma20: He uses a mixer to control the overall sound of the different instruments tracks of the drum machine and mute / unmute them in realtime. For instance the tonal character of the bassdrum, the snare & cymbals. Also he had CD Players with Instrument tracks or other stuff that are connected to the mixer also. Why do the other musicians don't need a mixer? Cause they use non electronic instruments.
Certain dance acts stand out and he is one of them. No matter what genre some guys just break the mold. Some of my other favorite electronic progressives who cross boundaries, mix styles and get out the genre box are acts like Kraftwerk, Massive Attack, Goldie, Leftfield, Unkle, Amon Tobin, The Prodigy, Underworld, Portishead, Richie Hawtin, Aphex Twin, Dj Krush, Lo Fi AllStars, AllFlaws

Muzyka jest muzyką. Jeśli zamykacie się z klapkami na oczach i mimo wszystko słuchacie ciągle tego samego, to nigdy nie poznacie innych brzmień. Można czegoś nie lubić, ale nie powinno się mówić, że jest gówniane, bo na przykład ten utwór to małe dzieło, wymagające ogromnych zdolności i chociaż mnie nie porywa, to jestem świadomy tego, jak wielkiego nakładu pracy wymagał.

To, że Ty nie lubisz techno nie znaczy, że masz uważać to za dno.

@gooffno Zdecydowanie wydaje Ci się, pozory czasem mylą, a Jeff odrabia tutaj niesamowitą robotę, oczywiście nie słuchać tego od tak, utwór ten wymaga od słuchacza skupienia i uważnego śledzenia, można zauważyć, że utwór bardzo wolno się rozwija, to jest właśnie w pewnym sensie muzyka minimalistyczna, która wydaje się prosta, monotonna i nudna a w rzeczywistości jest bardzo skomplikowana, skupienie nagradza dostrzeżeniem piękna i wyjątkowości, to właśnie lubię w ambitnej elektronice.

@zulowski Nie znasz się na muzyce i tyle, widać kindermetal z ciebie, jakaś komercyjna metalica uszy ci zapchała i mózg wyprała. To, że w techno(prawdziwym) nie umiesz dostrzec piękna, to jedynie wskazuje na twoją ignorancję i zamknięcie się na jakiś pseudo metal czy poprock. Monotonia i mała ilość dźwięków to tylko pozory, to właśnie jest muzyka minimalistyczna, która wymaga od słuchacza uwagi i skupienia, wtedy dostrzega się coś niepowtarzalnego i pięknego.

@zulowski Haha "30 seconds to mars" to najgorsze pseudoalternatywne ścierwo jakie może być, faktycznie twój gust jest prymitywny i rozumiem, że zadowalasz się jakimiś bandami dla buntowniczych nastolatek, jednak nie będę cię nakłaniał do słuchania prawdziwego arcydzieła muzycznego bo to nie ma sensu w twoim przypadku, trudno wymagać rozróżniania poziomów muzycznych, od kogoś takiego jak ty.

Love it! I've known & loved this track for many years. To see it done with full orchestral strings, brass, woodwind, percussion et al - superb! Must of been such a coup for Jeff Mills to play alongside them and vice versa. The orchestra must rarely get a chance to go way off classical music into something as housey as this. Excellent. Lx

Well i think they're all hating because they're not techno fans and can't appreciate what everybody else seems to. We're not stupid, we know that an orchestra isn't meant to do that kind of music in the first and that's why it's so awesome. If you can't get that then go back to listening to classic music and being arrogant with each others.

Well, being a musician I know it's a matter of taste, but for me, it was flat & boring. I expected something interesting from the bells, but it never happened. & yes, a real lack of melody except for one or two places. Repetition of the strings etc in the second minute or so had me ready to yawn-it evoked no emotion at all. Maybe this is a case of, "You had to be there", & it the sounds were no doubt more compelling in person-but frankly, the audience seemed unimpressed also. Empty & pretentious

Alas-I fear the real explanation is that, as our society/civilization/species goes down the tubes, aesthetic appreciation, intelligence, melody etc are going w/ it. That, and/or non-musicians are way too easily impressed, & taken in by the "atmosphere"/theatre of the production, so decide it's good because there's a big, cool stage w/lots of different instruments, doing strange things!

For people coming from the machine-trance world, this is a highly impressive interpretation of the original tune "The Bells". It's well done and well performed. Given, that the bells could have played a better role - they are somehow lacking the trance-way they have in the original track - still, their original purpose (including the disharmonics) was well spread amongst the whole orchestra. thumbs up

you could laugh at the absurdity of the juxtaposition, but this arrangement is actually much more interesting to listen to than most of the modern classical music this kind of orchestra would usually be playing... a nice arrangement by the arranger Jeff worked with.. it does sound silly with the drum machine, it doesn't need it!

@numanuma20: He uses a mixer to control the overall sound of the different instruments tracks of the drum machine and mute / unmute them in realtime. For instance the tonal character of the bassdrum, the snare & cymbals. Also he had CD Players with Instrument tracks or other stuff that are connected to the mixer also. Why do the other musicians don't need a mixer? Cause they use non electronic instruments.

Certain dance acts stand out and he is one of them. No matter what genre some guys just break the mold.
